SSR seems like the best of the bunch...

Good natured and respectful, yeah, for the most part, but he did love to rattle cages! It was never malicious though. Entertaining to no end, but never malicious.

I think he disliked everything but OKW equally, but I wonder if he would have cut SSR a little more slack because it is a little more similar to OKW, or whether he would have trashed it because it had the smaller rooms that he despised. You know, the ones he claimed he could reach across and get a drink from the fridge without getting out of his seat on the balcony.... :lmao:

Yep he was one of a kind.

You might want to re-read your comments. When someone lists why they like SSR, and you comment that it has "no value" then yes you are implying they are wrong.

It had no value to the discussion at hand that is why I stated it. When we are specifically talking about size of the resort and impact on the 7 month window then stating how much they love SSR has no bearing on that. That is all I meant by it. As far as I'm concerned people can sing from the rafters how great SSR is.

See this is where you went to far, you want to be allowed to give your opinion on SSR but when someone truly likes SSR and states the reasons they do, they are burying their heads in the sand.

Fair enough. Whether you like SSR or not, I'd hope everyone would at least be open to the idea that building the largest DVC Resort to date and marketing said resort as a means of just getting into the system and on top of that not listening to the customers when they directly state they want another resort, that the potential for problems exists.

It does get old and it makes it appear that when someone likes something different they have absolutely no sense at all and that is insulting.

I have stayed at "all" of the DVC resorts many times. Therefore I do feel I am qualifed to compare them. There is good in all of them and not a single one is perfect. Right now, SSR, fits what we like best. But you know at times, it appears here you simply can not have that opinion and be left alone about it.

When I state what I like, though, I am immediately challenged to justify it. Well you know I am getting tired of it. I never thought I would be one to say these forums are getting to me, but lately I must say I am seriously considering going back to the resorts forums and leaving the madness here alone. Why, because there you can give your opinion and people respect it for what it is, an opinion.

My 2 cents and a very rare vent from me.

I have no problem with opinions. In fact, by your saying "right now ,SSR fits what we like best", you've made it YOUR opinion for you. That's exactly what I was asking for when I posted.........make it an individual opinion.:thumbsup2
My problem is with those that imply that their opinion is actually the only "right" opinion for everyone else!

Exactly, If I was going to Food and Wine, I would definitely want to stay at Beach Club or Boardwalk for the convenince. Same with VWL at Christmas.

But right now we are into Spa treatments, golf, Downtown Disney and a very good CS location and SSR fits that. Which is why, right now, SSR is the best fit for us. All the DVC resorts offer things we like.

We have never had any problems getting any location we want including all the ones mentioned,at the times mentioned at 7 months or less. I can't imagine that our being able to do that means we are the only ones able to.
So for us the system in place works. I guess if I had tried to book 7 months or less several times and not been able to get what I wanted with the wait list I would have a different opnion, but that has never happened to us.

We have even gotten reservations as late as one month, so I do think many book ahead and then cancel which is why the wait list works so well.

All those things are true of OKW too except that we have to take a quick boat ride or walk for the spa and DTD. The other difference is that OKW rooms are much larger and cost fewer points.
I own at OKW and SSR. I like OKW if I am going to get a 1 or 2 BR, but if it is a solo trip I like SSR. I like having the little couch instead of 2 beds.

I personally don't like the Boardwalk area that much, but for very personal reasons. I was staying at BWI when I got the phone call that my mother had a terminal illness. That's been a decade ago, but it's funny how some things stick with you.

After lurking, debate, after debate, after debate, after debate, here is how I feel...
It seems to me that there are two issues here. One, there are opinions about SSR qualities that people don't like (which are fine) and two, the debate on whether SSR is the BIG ugly step sister that is wrecking the DVC experience. I believe the it is the latter that is grinding SSR owners( I know it is me). There are people who assume that because THEY don't don't like SSR that no one else should or could enjoy it and that it is the resort to be stuck with. Not everyone feels this way. Sometimes I feel bad about saying that I occasionally trade to another resort because people think we (SSR owners)are hogging all of the "premium" resorts. But the truth is we all have the same 7 to 11 month advantage and are all allowed to change at 7 months. That is the system that we ALL bought into. We all know that if you have your heart set on a certain resort then you should plan ahead. For me, I am happy with my purchase if you aren't then sell.:rolleyes1 JMHO

conciergekelly, after lurking all over the Disboards for years (compare my join date with post count), I can honestly say that imo your post about this topic is one of the most succinct and accurate I've seen. Nice job

Why does there HAVE to be a universal "best" and "worst" DVC location?

Because owners of the winning "Best DVC Resort" get really cool prizes like a free Mickey toaster. Runners up just get those dinkey mickey head ice cubes. ;)

I agree. If someone says they don't like DTD or think SSR is too far from the parks for them, or someone says they don't like the decor (or that it's too posh), that's a fair and true experience for them. All I can say is my experience is different.

But when we get into "big ugly stepsister" territory and then throw in something like "ruining DVC for everyone", I get argumentative. Mostly because that viewpoint often is offered by those who for whatever reason chose not to stay at SSR and are competing for smaller resorts under 7 months. SSR gets blamed because DVC membership is growing overall. For people booking at home 11-7+1day out, it's a non-issue.

But I realize it's just a temporary argument. AKV will be the subject of all new debates in a year or so when SSR is off the table. It too will suffer from the "only route to DVC" and "not convenient to theme parks" stench.

Thank god for that, I'm getting blisters fending off SSR attacks! :lmao:

Oh, wait.....damn, I bought AKV too! :scared1:

I think they a little boxing head image, I feel like I've been Sparring!

You won't be alone. Others will join you in the crusade for truth, justice and SSR. :thumbsup2

.

Yep!

Plan ahead and it's a non issue. If you can't plan ahead....you can't complain....you knew it would be a free for all at 7 months anyway!

What's that saying?

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part!
(or something along those lines!)

:lmao:

I hope not! California or EP or CRV will come first and as of now I'm buying any of them. But I did say I wasn't buying AKV and some how ended up with 175 points. :scratchin

I think the Dumbo71 brigade will find something to whine about AKV to keep people busy(he is selling his SSR contract and planning on buying AKV)

I'll take that bet, actually in 3-5 years it's likely to be worse than it is now even if CRV comes on board.

My mother had another saying: "Snooze you lose."

Unfortunately, reminding folks of how the system works does not seem to mitigate or redirect their ire. Someone's to blame and it ain't gonna be them.

Hey, I'm just grateful that there's been a break in the "long, long hallway" tirade about one of my DVC "homes"!:lmao: And there seems to be a respite about the "dreary, undecorated hallways", too.;)
(I'm gearing up for the "stinky, animal-like smell" one.:teeth: )
