I bit the bullet and ordered a graduation cake for DH today through the cake hotline. I have to say that Edie was VERY helpful through the Contemorary Bakery (?) and they will deliver the cake to Chef Mickey's the first night of our trip!! I am SO excited to see DH'S face!

I ordered a chocolate cake with bavarian cream and fresh strawberries and chocolate buttercream icing. There will be a 3-D Mickey standing on top with green decorations - school color.

The only disappointment is that they said they cannot alter Mickey in any way, so they can't put a grad. cap on him. That would have been perfect! (maybe I will look for a small decoration that I can put on his head just for photos!)

I will post a picture.....in August!! :goodvibes

How big is the cake and how much is it costing??

Oh, I forgot that part......sorry.

$45 for the 10" cake and $30 for the decoration/s.....I also forgot to mention that the 3-D Mickey is edible - white chocolate, and hand painted to look just like the real thing!

How far in advance is too far in advance.

If I called now for July 30 would they take my order?

These cakes are about 3"x5" and about as tall as a good sized cupcake. They aren't bad but since they keep them fridge/freezer prior to delivering them it might be pretty hard when you first get it. If you order one you might want to mention it to your server as soon as you get there and ask that they take it out of the fridge/freezer. When you open the treasure chest it looks like the cake is pretty deep but it is sitting on a cardboard insert. It is definitely enough for a few servings.

Can you order these at the podium or do you have to pre-order them? I see on the WDW website that they have these at character dining locations, I assume this includes CRT. Anyone know for sure?

I ordered my graduate cake for today through the Contemporary Bakery. We're eating at California Grill next week with a group of 14, and I ordered a 1/4 sheet cake that will be shaped like a graduate's cap. Total cost will be $110.00. Hope that it turns out ok!!!!:scared1: and will post pics when I return.

We are heading down in a few weeks for our 25th anniversary. Has anyone ordered a smallish two tier cake from on property? I don't want the 4" micro cake. But, does anyone know if they would do an 8" and 6" as a two tier? I am just trying to get an idea before I call the cake hotline. We want it with just buttercream frosting, not fondant. And nothing too extravagant for decorations. Figured maybe some Mickey icons and some flowers. Our wedding was in lavender so DW wants that, and silver since it is our 25th. Will be interesting to see what they say and if we can keep it around $100 or if the two tiers takes it way up from there.

Well we are back and I have to say Pat and Christina (Pat had a family emergency) were wondeful! I cannot believe the cake they had the bakers produce for us. It was the most beautiul cake I have even seen. When we arrived at the GF Cafe I told them it was a surprise and they made sure to keep it that way. Even the waiter Geoff (best waiter ever) kept it a surprise and made sure my Mom had no idea we got a cake for her. When Geoff brought it out everyone stopped talking and just watched it go by. In fact my mom said "Oh Wow look at that" and then she was speechless when he sat it in front of her. He said everyone had heard about the cake and had been checking it out all day. They could not wait to see who got it. Geoff also said he was to cut the cake for us, but he could not do it. He said it was the most beautiful they had even seen come out of the GF bakery, so that made me feel good. After about 30 mins my mom cut it, but she felt so bad doing it. I will post a pic of it later, since I cannot do it now, but it really does not do it justice.

Chocolate Cake filled with red rasberry mouuse and fresh red rasberries icing was dark chocolate ganache and chocolate shavings. 4 white chocolate strawberries in front of the cake, a white chocolate slipper and red sugar roses sat on top of the cake.

(I will inset the pic tonight)

Did i miss the pic?? Have you posted it yet??

I would love to know too!!

Just to clarify - you don't want the mini 2-tier cake that can fit on a salad plate, you want a full-sized cake that's a 6-inch layer on top and an 8-inch layer on the bottom? I believe the standard (pictured below) for a 2-tier is 6-inch on top and 10-inch on the bottom (where's CakeManBri when you need him?) but maybe it's only 8 inches....

The cake in the picture is the one that's included in Disney's package wedding, and they value it at around $200. (Which is not to say that's how much it actually costs! :cutie:)

Most people who do anniversary cakes at Disney get a 6-inch round (like the top layer of the one pictured), and that usually runs $55-$85 (more with fancy decorations). So a two-tier could be considerably more than $100.

The BoardWalk Bakery seems to be the most accomodating lately, so you may want to chat with them (just call BoardWalk Inn and ask to be transferred). Alternatively, you can work with the Grand Floridian or Yacht & Beach Club bakeries through Private Dining at those resorts.

Thanks for the info. I was HOPING for less than $100, but if it's over, so be it. I may end up with a single 8". But you are right, the 10" and 6" is what I was thinking of. Just without the fondant. I had hoped without that, it would come in a little cheaper. I guess I will call and ask.

Thanks again!

I just called the MK hotline and they told me the Mickey Head Cake was decorated in normal frosting rather than the fondant I've seen pictured. Is that right?

I don't think the Mickey head is fondant at all. I just think it's really slicked back dark chocolate icing. A bakery near me does it like that for some cakes. :goodvibes I was inquiring about cakes, looking at his pics and I thought they were fondant and they weren't.

I am pretty sure it is chocolate ganache and the "face" is a white chocolate piece. I am getting one in 2 weeks, so would be happy to report back if someone else doesn't come along before then. :goodvibes

I thought the Mickey Head cake was covered with ganache but maybe it's just regular chocolate icing. :confused3

But what about this one pictured on the WDW site? It looks completely different from the one's I've seen posted here.
