Does it bother anyone else when they say this? If someone is using illegal drugs or legal drugs in an illegal manner and they die- where is the accident? :confused3

No it doesn't bother me.

It means they weren't trying to kill themselves.

Doesn't bother me at all. It just differentiates between those who purposely take a fatal amount with the intention to die and those that took an amount that proved to be fatal when death wasn't their intention.

It makes the druggie sound like a victim.

Most of the time when a person gets hooked on drugs they are a victim they get addicted.Addiction are very hard to give up. It's not something that most people can give up cold turkey

It just means it isn't a suicide. Both are tragic but are still two very different things. RIP Corey Haim:sad1:

Accidental overdoses are not always perpetrated by "druggies". I work in estate administration and I've seen two healthy, young and vibrant people die from accidental overdoses. In both of their cases, they were prescribed medicines for legitimate purposes. Very unfortunately, the combinations proved to be lethal. Are they victims? Absolutely. It's pretty easy to tell by checking medical records and autopsy reports, whether the drug injestion was intentional or accidental.

Seriously? Someone chooses to shoot up heroin and they are a victim? Unless someone overpowers them and puts the needle in their arm- they made a choice.

My friend's mother died from an accidental dose of sleeping pills. She had been battling chronic sleeplessness. She got up in the middle of the night, very groggy, and took another pill, thinking she hadn't taken it earlier. The whole bottle wasn't gone, just one or two extra as she'd gotten confused on the doses in her state.

It killed her.

Absolutely, there are ACCIDENTAL overdoses.

Nope, doesn't bother me in the least as I see the difference between accidental and on purpose. :confused3

They did not intend to take the drugs (whether illegal or not) and die as a result, however, they accidentally did. Of course, you may not know the persons heart and mind at the time that they took the drugs, therefore what may be called accidental may have actually been on purpose.

They first few times yes, It's there choice but then addiction takes over and then you have it.

Just like any other addiction, smoking, over eating. bulima. some addiction are just stronger then others.

Again- not what I am talking about. I'm talking about people using illegal drugs- I'm talking about people taking legal drugs that arent' meant for them or mixing them (like those pill parties- dump everything into a bowl and take some).

I'm not trying to be argumentative, really I'm not. :flower3: But, your thread started with "Accidental Overdose - Does it bother anyone else when they say this?" It was only in your next sentence that you equated "accidental overdose" with someone using illegal drugs or legal drugs in an illegal manner.

Just pointing out accidental overdoses include OTHER causes than the two you mentioned, and why it doesn't bother me when I hear it.

My thought is the first "few times" you made a decision that will most likely end up ending your life........

I agree with this. I remember how HARD it was to quit smoking, I can't even imagine heroin or meth. I'm sure my kids are tired of my telling them that if they use these drugs, even just once, they will be addicted, but it's scary. When you have a physical addiction, you need that drug just to feel normal, and not bad.
