OFFICIAL Jan 2011 Half Marathon, Full Marathon, Dopey or Goofy Challenge Thread

I ran - and finished! - the half marathon on Saturday. It was my 1st race EVER and it was awesome!!!! My goal was to finish - with a secondary goal of trying to break the 3 hour mark. I did that and better - 2:44:15 was my time. I'm totally inspired to keep running and I'm going to sign up for the full next year.

Great job out there, everyone.

Apparently, registration opens mid-March for 2012. Save your pennies!

I talked to the RunDisney folks yesterday at EPCOT (one of our friends was talking to them about the improvements in the course) and the said registration will open the 2nd or 3rd week of March. They also said they heard all of the complaints about discounts being offered later registration process, and that for 2012 they will offer some kind of early bird discount, and participants from this year will be notified about the discount via email. So start thinking about your race for next year!

I completed my first half this past Saturday at WDW and it was amazing. I finished in 2.20 which was a real accomplishment for me. Now I'm trying to decide for next year--full or Goofy? :)

Congratulations to all of the finishers!

Thanks for the info. Having a birthday the third week of March, I guess I know where my birthday money is going.

I ran a 2:20:28 at Wine & Dine, so I hear you. It's a huge accomplishment. You should be proud.

Go Goofy! If you're going to run the full, you might as well do the half too. :)

Congrats on finishing your first half!

I just have to figure out scheduling to make Goofy work. I don't want it to be my first Marathon AND goofy, so could I do a marathon between now and then and train for Goofy? And I need to really wrap my head around what Goofy training entails. So we will see!

Congratulations to everyone!

I completed my first half on Saturday too. When I started running last July, I thought it may be a one time thing. Now, my wife and I are making our plans for marathon weekend next year! My wife, kids, and I will do the family 5k and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to do the full next year. Who knows, with another year to train, maybe I'll go Goofy.

I'm a **MARATHONER** !

I finished with a time of 5:13 (25 minutes slower than my
intermediate goal time). It was very fun seeing the other
two parks (I've done the Disney Half three times).

Congrats to all who worked so hard for this marathon run!
You just don't get to run next to Tinkerbell everyday.

Have a magical day (we need to pack up and head to the airport)!!

That is so awesome! Back in the frozen north of MN now myself and all I can say is BRRRRR! Great job! You are a marathoner!!!

I want to add my congratulations to everyone who ran this past weekend, especially any first timers. I did my second full marathon but was much more prepared for it than the first. I finished in 3:16:22 and am very happy with it.

Way to go!!! My first race ever was a half marathon, too, but your time trumps mine still! Awesome job! Keep it up!

Finally back online after my 7 days at Disney. Great job to everyone!!!!!

I had the best time. I loved running at Disneyworld. I ended up with 1:48 in the half and 4:55 in the full. Not quite what I had hoped for, but with my ankle, I'm happy about it.

It was pretty cool to start the half in Corral A. I wasn't sure I belonged up there, but after we started, I was surprised at how many people I was passing. I somehow hurt my hip in the half, so I wasn't sure how good I was going to be for the full, but once I started running on Sunday, I felt great. I fell at mile 15 and wiped out pretty good. I am sporting some serious road rash and missing a chunk of my knuckle, but all it did was give me some extra fuel for a few miles. :rotfl: There's nothing like rage to motivate you. At mile 23, Vicky (bunnyfoo) and I saw Jeff Galloway. We decided our mission was to beat him. We crossed the finish line right behind him!!!!

The best news of all is that, after a few hours, I felt amazing after running 39.3 miles! I thought I'd be hobbling for a few days, and, maybe not walking at all. Not the case. Except for those stairs. My quads were so sore trying to go down the stairs that I wasn't sure they would keep me from pitching forward.

Thanks again to everyone who gave me all the great advice. I felt really prepared and ready.

Congratulations to everyone for getting to the start line! I'm reading catching up on this thread to glean info for nest year's race. I'm booked at a resort and I'm ready to register. It will be my 4th half but my first Disney. Looking forward to a new thread starting for the 2012 race.

This was my second half, the first was Wine and Dine. I finished in 1:32:54, which was faster than Wine and Dine. The weather and a little experience are the main factors for the improvement.

Congrats to everyone. I hope to try the Full next year, as my first Full.

Congratulations to all who ran. I was one of the first timers and I am hooked now.

Way to go Firedancer and APrunner. Ya'll killed it.

Great job to all the 1st timers. Enjoy the week before heading out toe door and trying to run again. Also, you may feel a little bit of a downer this week. It is normal and just like any other huge endeavor that requires weeks of planning and execution. Keep your head up this week and smile. Next week start looking at how you want to build on this experience and where you want to take it.

This is why I am already registered for my next destination race, the National Half Marathon in DC. It helps the motivation.

I will be doing only cross training until next Tuesday at least if not Wednesday or Thursday. Better to take some days off by choice now as opposed to by necessity because of not waiting long enough.

I'm running the National Half, as well, following the Manhattan half on January 22nd.

I'm doing the National Half too, as part of a relay team. :goodvibes

I keep thinking I'm not signed up for anything, but I forget!
