What a day ! All started well, Paul did on-line check-in, and I got my nails done, finished packing and generally pampered myself. Our plan was to leave around 8.15pm after youngest DD got back from work, but unfortunately hubby had had a mare of a day with work and his father (who had recently gone into a convalescence home) and the poor thing didn't get home till 9.30pm. After having some food and sorting himself out we were on our way around 10.30pm, and thankfully after a stress-free drive up the M6 we arrived at the Travelodge, Manchester Airport around mid-night
We fell into bed within moments of arriving and were fast off to sleep in no time
Friday 6th May '11
We were up, showered and out of the hotel around 7.15am. We parked our car in the multi-storey next to Terminal 2 and rolled our cases over to the Virgin check-in desk, and we were pleased that our flight, VS075 was departing on time at 11am
About 10 days before our holiday we found some cheap upgrades to Premium Economy, and as they were too good to pass on, and felt it would probably be the one and only time we would get the opportunity to do this, we decided to upgrade. There was no line at the bag drop off desk and within no time we were heading up through security and through the new body scanners
Once we were airside, we went straight to Frankie & Benny's for breakfast. I had an omelette and Paul had the huge New York breakfast and we both had tea
We had a very relaxing breakfast and never once felt rushed. We left after a good hour in there and had a wander around duty free
We wandered towards our gate around 9.30am and about 10am they announced boarding for Premium Economy. Our plane was Madamoiselle Rouge, one of the new planes and oh my, we were very impressed with PE
Within moments we were offered either Champagne, Buck Fizz or orange juice, so we both had a Bucks Fizz (Mmm, I could used to this)
Our flight took off 10 minutes early, and within no time the drinks trolley came round. Paul had a lager and I had a huge Bacardi & diet coke. We enjoyed our drinkies and pretzels and then the entertainment system started. Wow! this was impressive, loads of movies that you could watch, save for later and pause at any time. I watched a Matt Damon movie 'HereAfter' which I enjoyed
The Entertainment System
Ooh, what's in the arm rest?
Not just a little table ..
.. but a big one too
A rest for my tootsies
A little pamper kit
We were given our menus to choose lunch, and we both had hotpot with Mediterranean veggies and I had white wine and Paul had a lager, it was all very nice
Our flight was just over 9 hours, and it went really well. The seats were so comfy, we had loads of room and there was never a line for the loo
All this comfort can be exhausting
For the rest of the flight I watched Tangled, which was quite good, an episode of the Big Bang Theory and the Suite Life on Deck and towards the end of the flight I listened to some oldies albums on the music entertainment thingy
