Oh Sweet Mother of Bread Pudding...What have I got myself into? 9/26 Update!

My advice for the China Pavillion. Get 2 Curry pockets and 2 Peach Snap. Then make a half hearted attempt to share with someone (this way you know you will be turned down on your offer and be FORCED to consume that terrible tasting stuff yourself). I mean after all we are in a recession and it is sinful to waste.:thumbsup2 and you are just being prudent...the Bush clan would be proud.

Look for some innovative imports from China at the China Pavillion. This "Cart" near the water holds the Ancient Chinese secret for which you search. Be swift grasshopper for the delictables have a way of disappearing right before your eyes (i.e. they are darn good and now because of Dawn and others everyone knows about them)!

Good idea! I can tell the kids there are vegetables in the curry pockets and then they won't touch them! :lmao: And I can tell Brent that there is onions in them and he won't either. They can then be MINE! All mine! He will probably want his own Peach Snap which is fine, cause I probably won't want to share anyhow!

After a reading your post about snacks I have decided that you and I should do a dining review of the MN State Fair! :rotfl2: Where would we post that? I have no idea but it would be great practice for my first Disney Dining Review in September! ;) Enjoy your road trip and getting your kiddos off to college!

You mean do a review of the GREAT MINNESOTA FOODIE GET TOGETHER :lmao::lmao:

You mean do a review of the GREAT MINNESOTA FOODIE GET TOGETHER :lmao::lmao:

That's exactly what I mean!! Do MN DISers do this? If so I want to join, if not we need to start! Deep fried bologna on a stick, not so good. Deep fried pickles with cream cheese - be still my heart (literally!!)! :lmao:

My goodness, I am loving your food porn adventure!! I am food obsessed, VERY chubby and also wonder how people at Disney can eat the quantities of food I see them eat!!

I am usually 'sweeted' out after day 3, so after that just one taste will do.

I loved the tea at Grand Floridian and think it is truly one of the best values on property when you consider service and the quality of the foods offered.

Being a nurse, I NEVER have time to sit and eat at work. I usually grab bites between charting and running to my patients rooms. I used to be a day care provider and can relate to standing, cleaning, cooking or generally being busy while eating. Maybe that is the reason I enjoy eating at Disney.;)

Looking forward to more of your reviews and really enjoying all of your pictures!! My gosh, you should write a cookbook and do a travel show that tells you where you should really eat!!!

Still reading and catching up on your AWESOME report, but had to write this before I forget:

1--I'm from MN too! Ever go to MOA to Wolfgang Puck Express? It's like a little WDW moment!

2--If you liked the Y&Y green beans, try them at Green Mill. They're really good there.

3--Like ribs? Famous Dave's or somewhere else local?

I had to mention the local stuff since we're in the same state....OK....back to reading.:surfweb:

You absolutely have me cracking up. I'm waking people up and burning the midnight oil, but it's worth it!

I'm not a fan of the KK (nor the KKK for that matter....:rotfl:). I think I'm spoiled by Abdallah caramel (up here in MN for other readers who wonder if I have ever left the state.....) and I was very, very disappointed in my KK purchase (I got the marshmallow thingie you did). I suppose I should give it another go to be fair....:rolleyes1

Looking forward to more and definitely subbing!

Dropping in to say hi! Have been gone for 2 weeks and heading back Monday home finally. Carsyn's dorm room is all set up and looks fabulous. Treyner's suite is also great in a stinky college boy with stinky athlete friends sort of way! :lmao:

Can't wait to be HOME and write, write and write!!!:lovestruc

I missed you!

I was just thinking you ought to be home around now, glad all went well and look forward to reading more.

I know you are glad to be out of that car for awhile.
Hope Carsyn's year is great!
You didn't call....:confused3

Our snacking around Epcot continued with the ever popular school bread and a cinnamon roll for Baylor in Norway at the Kringla Bakeri og Cafe. The seating area in Norway is cool and covered so it helps feel like you are getting away from the crowds. The only negative is the tables are bolted down so someone with long legs like Dan, is limited on how he arranges his legs if he sits by one of the walls.

School Bread $1.99

The glorious smackeral of flavor you enjoy while biting into one of these delectables is hard to put into words. You have the coconut with it's crisp, flakes of island gluttony bouncing in your yap mixed with the soft pastry and custard. Each bite is a different sensation because you can have more custard, less puff, more coconut etc.

I am not a fan of American custard doughnuts. Texturally it is very smooth and is more pudding than custard. If you were to squeeze American custard onto a cookie using a pastry bag, it would not have any dimension to it because the liquid ratio to the filling is so high.

This custard, has depth. It has flavor. Almost a buttery almond/vanilla. You can see the piping on the top has ridges because the consistency is thick enough to decorate with. It sticks to the pastry and compliments it versus sliding off and into your lap. Not too much to become a tactile nightmare for your tongue either.

The coconut flakes are a mixture of fried and soft so for those like me who like to mix up the texture while eating, it is perfect. (I cannot eat all hard taco shells for example or all soft. Need a mix or the gag reflex is on high alert!)

They are inexpensive as treats at Disney goes and are an easy thing to split and not feel deprived.

Cinnamon Bun $2.99

Baylor loves cinnamon rolls.

LOVES them.

If he could get a job at Cinnabon, he would be a happy camper for life.

His review of the roll here was mediocre. The bread was getting stale, it was not served warm so all the hues of cinnamon, glaze and pastry were not fused together. He would not order it again, or only warm and fresh if that was an option. He said the ones At MK were better due to the density of the roll. (His words were he liked the "thicker dough".) This was more reminiscent of a flaky roll. Each strip inside was thin and almost overcooked.

We then, hit Mexico and found La Cava to be empty! Here is the website for it because I have not seen it actually attached to any menus here.

We enjoyed chips and salsa and ordered some extra's! It was our first time here and we soon became lovers of a few items.

The chips and salsa were okay. The salsa was thick and had a mesquite flavor to it. Chips were fresh and crisp. I am not the biggest BBQ fan so the salsa was not my favorite at all.

But....

Chips and Guacamole
Tortilla chips and guacamole (spicy blend of avocado, serano chile, cilantro and lime)

OMGoodness was the guac great! HUGE portions for the price as well. These came with a puffed flour chip that reminded us of a Funion almost. The guacamole was chunky, very flavorful with garlic and onion and again, HUGE! This by far was the highlight of all food we tried that day walking and sampling.

***We just got back from a day at Epcot last Thursday. Had the guacamole again and I have to say I am so very sad that they are now just using the regular chips with the guac. The airy quality of the flour puff made such a dramatic difference to the eating experience. It just crumbled in your mouth and did not separate so you crunched equal distribution of chip and dip.

Now, while the guac is still the best I have ordered anywhere, it is not the Paula experience it was in March. Still, we needed more chips to finish the guacamole because the serving size is close to one full cup. For $6, it is IMO, the best bargain on property now. Easily split with three people and for those of us who have bought a pill cup size of guac for a few bucks at Chipotle, you can rest assured the taste and value will knock you off your feet!

I am looking into who I can complain to about their removing the flour puffs from the app!****

Then we ordered two drinks. Dan was happy to let me have a sip and for the sake of the DIS, finish them in the name of science. :lmao: :rolleyes1

The first was one he did not want but I did because of my research here.

Avocado
El Mayor premium silver Tequila, melon liqueur, fresh avocado, agave nectar and fresh lime juice, served frozen with a hibiscus Himalayan salt rim

:worship: :worship: :worship: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

If he could have put his face in the glass to make sure not one drop was missed, he would have.

I think it has moved up the scale of favorites now, past the Peach Snap for him. He has tried to recreate it at home, even purchased hibiscus to crush for the salt rim but alas, the ratio is off because his is never as thick and creamy as it is here.

It does not taste like you were spooning avacado in your mouth. It has hints of cucumber that softens it. For those ladies/men who have smelled a cucumber infused body spray, I can only say it tastes like a hint of that smells.

Light, refreshing, cold and the salt, is the key to amping it from okay to fabulous!

Dan also ordered a

Wild Passion Fruit
Familia Camarena silver Tequila, ginger liqueur, passion fruit, mango nectar and fresh lime juice, topped with fruit foam, served on the rocks with hibiscus Himalayan salt rim

He asked for it frozen and they obliged. It was good. Might have been great but when you compared it to the Avocado, it was a big ole looser. Which, usually Dan would prefer a sweeter drink, so he was shocked. :teacher:

***He also ordered an Avocado drink last Thursday and is happy to report it is as good as ever!!

I cannot WAIT to try one of the school breads when we go in October! I have a whole list of things to try :teacher:

I'm glad the Avocado Margarita was delicious! That one is next on my list. I have had the Passion Fruit one too and while I like sweet drinks it just seemed overly syrupy to me :confused3

Will definately have to check that place out in January! Who knows, after doing the 5K, I may need a flight of tequila!

Glad you are back and writing!!! What's the dealio with October for you guys now? I'm still going Oct 16-23. Let me know if we can catch up.

I'm glad to hear that you are back! I must try that school bread on our next trip. It looks so good! :thumbsup2
