$99 HP Touchpad

Does anyone know if I can watch Netflix movies on the Touchpad? Just trying to figure out how my DD9 can best use it. (and me too since I'm sure she'll share )Thanks!

Sorry, no Netflix- it requires silverlight, which the TP doesn't have. There have been rumours of an app- but nothing official, and there is little hope at this time.

WTH? I got the two-week ship notice a week and a half ago, and got it again today! Does that mean the 2-week clock is reset? I thought that it would be here any day now! If I didn't want the darn thing so much by now, I would cancel because of the customer service. But I keep thinking about all the things I'm going to use it for (planning on starting a website, and can use it when I go on sales calls to advertisers!). The whole thing is adding to my headache.

I totally agree with you. I got the same two weeks notice today as I did on Oct.7. I would also cancel, but I really do need the TP since my laptop died about three weeks ago and can't afford a new laptop. The good news is that my TP isn't on backordered anymore and moved to allocated. Boy I hope that means that it will ship soon. So sick of waiting.............

Yep got the same email 9 days after the last one. I was really hoping that it was about to ship, maybe this week some time and if it's now going to be ANOTHER 2 weeks I'm going to be annoyed. Who am I kidding, I'm already annoyed.

I'm going to check with my parents first to see if they want to keep it, but if not I'd definitely be willing to let someone here take it. I might be getting another one from HP, as I submitted 2 separate orders in case the first one didn't go through properly. So I might even have 2 extras. I'll let you know if I don't need it.

Just an FYI that there is now a way to install the Android OS onto the HP Touchpad (and it is free). It's in Alpha (meaning really early pre release) and it has some issues, (such as wifi disconnecting, and the camera only working for video chat) but i have installed it on two of my HP Touchpads and nothing that i can't deal with.

It is also a dual boot -- so you can boot back into WebOs as well as Android at will..

It's hard to believe they got so much of it done in about a month. I'm still waiting for my touchpad (ugh ), so I'm hoping a more cleaned up release will be out by the time I do. Still, this is awesome news.

So far the only issues i have had is with the wifi timeout, as well as some 1080p video artifacts -- a few apps crash randomly, but easily disgarded and restarted. Have been watching netflix and playing games, and surfing the net since 7 am friday without any major issues. Another benefit is.. you can actually CHARGE the device through a regular usb connection without requiring the bullet (ie PC charging)..

You can do this without jailbreaking???? Can you add some more details and a link. Thanks

The Touchpad doesn't need to be jailbroken. HP has an open source relationship, and provides tools and direct access to developer mode by simply typing a code into the "just type" field. So .. to answer your question .. no you do not have to jailbreak your touchpad.

You will have to download some tools from the HP website (novoterm) and the 4 files from this site... and also do a search for Gapps and include that with these files...

It took me 5 minutes to install on my touchpad, and 3 minutes to update the wifes touchpad.

Note that this IS ALPHA -- and it most likely voids any warrenty you have..

I got a notice yesterday that my 2 were shipped from Indianapolis by FedEx with tracking numbers, Yay!
Now I have two other questons
Where is the thread that had all the apps and info if you got one on this board? I didn't mark it
And someone posted about another tablet from 1saleaday (I think) that was sort of comparable for $79? Does anyone remember that post? I lost the email that said I had one of those on backorder a few weeks ago and I don't remember who it was. i know it wasn't a TP but it was something that would work for DMIL so I ordered one.

Just wanted to let everyone know that if you are charged shipping, call to get a refund.
I really don't think this company has a clue what they are doing!

You can also email them to have the shipping removed, which is what I did. Just point out that their email communication as well as their own website FAQ claim you will receive free shipping.

Not only do they not know what they are doing, they refunded my shipping charges AND added the calculated tax on that shipping back to me.

I think mine took 5 days but I got my shipment notice on a Sat so prob would have only been 3 if not for the weekend.

Got mine tonight. It will be perfect for what I want. Internet, e-reader and a few games here and there. Very nice tablet considering the price.

if I want tons of apps, i'll buy an ipad.
