I really think you could always share CS meals and be absolutely fine and we’d probably do that if we weren’t on the greedy mcgee dining plan.

:lmao: That's the main reason we don't get the greedy mcgee dining plan. DD and I share meals and then fill up on desserts.

At 9.00pm the music started….and as I said before, I cried AGAIN, cried and cried and cried, wayyyy more than when I saw the castle for the first time!! I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more emotional in my whole life, from the very first bars of music and the “star light, star bright, first star I see tonight” and especially when it goes “and do as dreamers do…” I was in absolute floods!! Tears of joy though you understand. I don’t know if I’ve ever been that happy (since earlier that morning in front of the castle ;) ) and it was a perfect moment :)

I cry every time. Actually I start during the MSEP and just continue on through the fireworks and now Memories, the Magic and You or whatever it's called. ;)

I didn’t really have any inclination to eat here though…we are from the school of trying new things when on holiday and the last thing I wanted was sausage and mash or a Cornish pasty!! Each to their own though :)

Rose & Crown is DH's one ADR request. I'm not sure if it's the food or if he just gets homesick for the sounds of other British accents. He does a lot of chit chatting with the servers but also usually gets bangers and mash and practically licks the plate clean. :lmao:

Great updates, Libby. F&W Festival sounds fun but Wow! What a lot of people!

Haha! Well, seeing as you asked so nicely...

and this must also be seen then

Having the absolute time of my life!! :lmao:

Wasn't actually going to share them as I am make-up free :scared1: which no-one really needs to see but the the heck!

Thanks for the pictures. I can't wait until we go in May! As for being make-up free, Ariel's twin would look great anytime! :thumbsup2

Joke was on me though because although I found Green fine and said we could go on Orange, I found it absolutely HORRENDOUS and nearly had to use the little vom bag; my head was spinning, stomach was churning and I couldn’t believe how bad I felt after one little ride!! All I could think about was my morning poptart…blerghhh. I had to have a 5 minute sit-down after we came out, what a Granny!!!

Same thing happened to me during our trip in 2007. We rode the Orange side before our ADR at Restaurant Marrakesh in Morocco. DW, DS & DD were fine and went on the restaurant. Peekish, puppy person here had to go back to the room and lay down. I was so ashamed :sad1: :sad2:

Fantastic TR!!! One of the best I've read.

Thanks for the great F&W reviews! Can't wait for our first trip during the Festival this fall. All of these great F&W pictures are making me way too anxious to get back down there.

Love the F&W pics. It will also be our first time during it and I'm so looking forward to it. Also making an ADR for Rose and Crown so it was nice to see some of it. I don't see many pics posted.

I think my favorite though is with the dolphin. Darling! Looks like you guys had a lot of fun.

Loving your reviews!!!

Something you might consider for your next trip: Red Lobster restaurants serve a Lobster Pizza!!! It's an appetizer, but I always order it for my dinner. If you love lobster and pizza, it's as good as it gets!

Absolutely loving your reviews! Ben and you are so cute together! Thanks for sharing your awesome trip w/ us (almost feel like we are there w/ you!) and I'm looking forward to reading about the rest of your stay. :goodvibes

Still seriously addicted to your reviews - was really interested in the non-Disney ones and even more interested in comparing the places we have been to at WDW.

The F&W festival is great while you have dining credits but scarily expensive when you have used them all. The four of us spent more there one night than at Le Cellier - I tried the Bunny Chow too and it reminded me of an Aunt Bessy yorkshire pud with veg in it - still I did enjoy it. :)

It was pretty pricey, indeed! We did use a few credits but for most of Ben's we didn't cause I didn't feel it was worth using them (the veggie options were a lot cheaper) so we were left with loads of credits on our last day, oop!

YES it was just like an Aunt Bessies, hahaha! He said it was a bit weird but like you, he enjoyed it :goodvibes thanks for reading!

:rotfl2:

Doing the F&W booths is pricey, but oh so fun!!!:thumbsup2

I agree! :rotfl: very expensive way to spend an afternoon but sooooo worth it :)

:lmao: That's the main reason we don't get the greedy mcgee dining plan. DD and I share meals and then fill up on desserts.

Thank you for your lovely comments :) I think we could definately do without the DDP judging by the size of the portions, if the SSR/OKW offer is on again for next year though with free DDP...we'll be there in a flash!! :thumbsup2

Glad I'm not the only one who cries repeatedly whilst at the Magic Kingdom haha, I was disgusted to look around and not see anyone else crying during Wishes! Madness!!! ;)

Thanks for the pictures. I can't wait until we go in May! As for being make-up free, Ariel's twin would look great anytime! :thumbsup2

hehe aww thank you :) Very brave of me to post them haha! Was such a fantastic day though, so worth the money :lovestruc

Urghhhh the orange side, SO HORRIBLE!! We were talking last night actually and I said thats the only ride I won't do again :( It just made me feel so awful, I know how you feel!!

Aww one of the best you've read, thank you so much! Got some more reviews ready to post!! :goodvibes

You are more than welcome, thank you for reading! Ohhh you'll love the F&W fest, it was one of the highlights of our holiday! Hope you have a wonderful time, oh how I wish we were going back this year :guilty:

Love the F&W pics. It will also be our first time during it and I'm so looking forward to it. Also making an ADR for Rose and Crown so it was nice to see some of it. I don't see many pics posted.

Hope you enjoy the F&W festival! We loved it! Glad the R&C pics were useful, yep you don't get to see many so as I was so snap happy during the holiday I thought I'd share! :)

Thank you, we loved Discovery Cove and would recommend it to anyone :)

Loving your reviews!!!

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I was not aware of this, sooooo gutted we didn't get a chance to go now!! Rubbish!! Mmmm lobster pizza, heaven :cloud9: :cloud9:

Thank you for reading and commenting! :)

Thank you! :) :) Glad you're enjoying and I'm so pleased you feel like you were there!! I'm really enjoying writing them :upsidedow xxx

Libby, I am finally all caught up on your reviews. You started well, with not only one of our favourite off-site restaurants (Friendlys) but my favourite meal there, the Honey BBQ Chicken Melt. How delicious is that sandwich :thumbsup2

The Confisco Grille breakfast looked (and sounded) great. We are staying at RPR for a few nights in August and my DS is a huge Spidey fan so we will most definitely have to try this. Did you book it before you went or just through concerge at your hotel? We still haven't tried Bubba Gumps despite many, many visits so this might make it onto the list in August too.

Glad you are enjoying Disney (now you finally made it). We were there at the same time as you and, if it's any consolation, we went to Epcot through the week and it was still absolutely heaving. It usually is during the F&WF.

Can't wait to read more of your reviews.

California Grill

Tonight was our dinner at California Grill for my birthday (which was a week before we left) and my excitement levels were reaching quite alarming heights having anticipated this dinner for an entire year. We stopped at the shop in SSR first to buy a few drinks for the room (an extremely difficult feat, Disny really do make it very difficult to buy booze, I had to ask for the prices of the vodka in a cabinet behind the till haha!) and wallkd back to our room trying not to let the other guests see that we were carrying alcohol on Disney property…

When we got back to the room I was very very very shocked to see THIS:

A HUGE beautiful bouquet of roses from my darling boyfriend :) He had actually ordered them as an Anniversary present for me but had got a bit confused with our ADR’s as our Anniversary dinner was at Narcoosee’s at the end of the week, BLESS HIM which made it even cuter. Isn’t he the best!? Just had to share these as it made the night extra special :cloud9:

After a little while I was finally ready, new dress on, false eyelashes on, hair curled and styled and hairsprayed. I took some photos of us all dolled up! We scrub up pretty well I think, it’s hard to believe these are the same people who only days ago were floundering around underwater with salt water ridden hair and lycra highlighting our problem areas:

P1010219.jpg

We got a bus to the MK (feeling very overdressed but I was loving it!!) and then it was just a short walk over to the Contemporary and then we were there! I cannot stress how much I was looking forward to this meal, I must have read 10,000 reviews of the restaurant and I was just so hoping it lived up to everything I hoped it would be.

Upon entering the Contemporary we were wowed but I felt it was a bit soulless... My idea of an expensive hotel is the kind of over-the-top luxury of the Grand Floridian which is my dream hotel so that’s just my opinion, I know lots of people love it! Its just if I had the money I’d go to the GF or the Boardwalk Inn. Interestingly, Ben much preferred the styles of the Polynesian and AKL and I think he’d loved Wilderness Lodge too. Luckily we’ll never have to make the difficult choice of where we’d stay with these opposite ideas of what is nice as we’ll never have the money!!! All Stars it is ;)

We headed over to the podium on the 2nd floor to check-in. They wished me a Happy Birthday which was lovely! I asked if it would be possible to have a window table but they said unfortunately the wait would be about an hour and half (our ADR was at 7.55) but they had a lovely table ready for us! Which was fine by me!! We were then taken upstairs in the elevator and led through the gorgeous dining room to a table only one table away from the window which was lovely! It was a table for 2 in the middle and we loved it. I was facing the window and I could clearly see the castle changing colour in the distance which was fabulous. We were going to go out onto the viewing platform to watch Wishes anyway.

And look! It was mega decorated!

P1010227.jpg

P1010229.jpg

Pretty pretty place setting

P1010230.jpg

We sat down and our server came over. Now, I can’t remember his name but he was a nice guy, just a bit…firm!! We had spoken to some friends of ours who had described the server they had at CG who they had liked but who they’d felt had been a bit pushy and forward in his service; for example telling them they really shouldn’t substitute items on the plates as they all work together so well etc which is fair enough but if someone doesn’t like something, they can change it if they want! And we are pretty sure we had the same guy. We liked him though and appreciated his knowledge. But much preferred our Narcoosee’s server if we’re going to be comparing Signature waiters ;)

First things first, drinks! We didn’t fancy wine as we’d already started on spirits back in the room so I got a vanilla vodka and diet coke and Benj got a beer. Then it was time to peruse the menu!! Not that I needed to as I knew it off by heart but I took the opportunity to look again ;) We were going to pay OOP for CG but after cancelling Akershus (I booked CRT and Akershus to increase the chances of seeing Ariel…we saw Ariel at CRT so I cancelled Akershus!!!) we decided to use our 2 TS credits each and pay OOP for a cheaper meal later in the holiday which was probably going to be Sci-Fi. $18 burger vs $44 steak…no brainer!

EXCITED TO BE HERE!!

P1010231.jpg

P1010232.jpg

Starters first! After much deliberation of whether or not I was going to get sushi, we decided to share the famous goats cheese ravioli and the heirloom tomato flatbread. Once we had ordered, the bread arrived! NOM this was stunning. Real butter with salt on top and fresh sourdough bread. I’m a bit of a salt fiend so having salt on my butter was a huge treat and it tasted so good! Lets just say this was all gone quite quickly.

P1010234.jpg

Shortly after our impressive looking starters were brought out and Ben started with the flatbread while I had the ravioli and we would swap half way through.

I was so excited to be sat in California Grill about to eat the goats cheese ravioli!!!! Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli - With sun dried tomatoes, pesto, shiitake mushrooms and basil - $14.00

P1010235.jpg

P1010237.jpg

I eagerly tucked in…but it was not to be!! I didn’t like it!!!! Disaster and very unusual as I think it is clear in this dining report that I do not meet many foods that I don’t like, bar the evil mushroom. Ew. Also, I absolutely LOVE goats cheese and will slather it on just about anything!! It was just too strong for me, I’ve never had anything like it :( I couldn’t even eat it it was that strong whereas normally I will plough through in spite of the taste (Cuba Libre vinager-based dish springs to mind.) Ben had eaten half of the flatbread by now and barely spoken during this time only to breathlessly declare it “one of the best things I’ve ever eaten in my life” so we swapped. And he loved the ravioli! So don’t be put off by my review as it is an award winning dish just tragically not to my taste. The flatbread however, oh my lord. This was heaven on a plate. Brick oven Fired Flatbread - Chef's Garden Heirloom tomatoes, baby mozzarella, tomato Jam, micro basil - $13.00

P1010238.jpg

P1010239.jpg

It was so delicately flavoured, I have never had tomatoes that taste like that before, wow, and the micro basil just took it to the next level! It literally took me seconds to eat my half of the flatbread. Ben quite often talks about the flatbread and he'll trail off with a look of ecstasy on his face, he can’t wait to have it again.

Our server then came to clear our plates and we had a look at the menu for our mains as obviously I didn’t know what dish I was going to feel like after my starter!! I should have known though that it would remain the same as it had for about a year, the oak grilled filet! I did quite fancy the pork with the goats cheese polenta but I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t get The Steak!!

While I was dreaming of the steak, Benj was musing over his options. That’s right, options plural! He could have had the veggie dish of the day which I believe was a fettucine affair, or a plate of vegetarian sushi. But, I was really trying to persuade him to ask about a dish I had read about a few times on various vegan/vegetarian dining reviews and thought Ben would love…the world-famous Vegetarian Unplugged!! Basically it’s a plate made up of 4 little plates that each holds a different dish that gets passed around the kitchen and made by 4 different chefs. Sounds awesome doesn’t it! He decided to go for it so when our server came back Ben very bravely said “I’ve heard about a dish called Vegetarian Unplugged…are you serving it tonight” and the server was like of course! Coming right up! Wooo! I ordered my steak and he was off, leaving us to wait in almost unbearable anticipation :teeth:

And luckily, we didn’t have to wait long. Our main courses arrived with a flourish and we sat staring at them for a good while before we tucked in.

Here is my absolute beauty of a steak…Oak-fired Filet of Beef - Mascarpone Potatoes, Blue Lake Beans, Arugula Oil, and Teriyaki Barbecue $44

P1010240.jpg

P1010241.jpg

P1010242.jpg

Halfway through…how amazing is that!?

P1010250.jpg

It was incredible. My third steak of the holiday and although I did love the garlicy goodness of the Sharks Underwater Grill dish, I think this one just pipped it to the post. Just, though! I did prefer the accompaniments of the garlic mashed potatoes and the asparagus at SUG :)

It was cooked perfectly too! Oooh I could just eat it right this second!!! The barbecue sauce was amazing too, pretty much licked the plate.

And Benji’s main was also incredible!!! Soooo pleased he went for it!! I’ve had to guess what each dish is as we weren’t told but I think I’ve pretty much got it from studying various menus! From top right and going clockwise –

P1010243.jpg

P1010244.jpg

Top right – I’m pretty sure this was the side dishes of the pork tenderloin minus the pork - Goat Cheese Polenta, Roasted Mushrooms, Zinfandel Glaze, Sage which was fabulous as I got to try the goat cheese polenta! Which was gorrggeouuusssss.

P1010247.jpg

Bottom right – recognize this!? It’s the heirloom tomato flatbread that we had for a starter! Ben could seriously have not been more thrilled by this as he hadn’t wanted it to end!!

P1010245.jpg

Bottom left – I think this was the Heirloom Apple Salad . . . Fourme d’Ambert, Spiced Pecans, and Apple Vinaigrette. Delicious!

P1010246.jpg

Top left – Can’t see anything on the menu that looks like this but I believe it was rice with lots of stirfried veggies on top with a soy and ginger dressing. Very refreshing and light.

P1010248.jpg

Phew! What a dish!! We both ate every single bite of our mains even though I was starting to feel soooo full!!!

Once we’d finished it was about 8.50 and we knew Wishes was starting at 9 and we wanted to go and watch it! We had desserts included obviously and even though we were stuffed, once I saw that the Chocolate Valrona cake was of a S’MORES variety, I had to get it!! Benji was tempted by the bread pudding but he eventually chose the bananas and caramel as I’d thought he would. Desserts ordered, we walked across the restaurant and out the doors onto the viewing platform.

We took some photos but they didn’t come out very well!! The view really is stunning though, completely different to watching them from within the MK but I think just as special; theres just something about being so high up that’s just amazing :)

P1010254.jpg

I promise this is me! Haha

P1010253.jpg

Wishes started and obviously I burst into tears again :sad1: Just can not get enough of this show!! It’s amazing!! We had the normal Wishes again which I was quite pleased about as I knew we’d be seeing Hallowishes in it’s full glory at MNSSHP!

It really is very romantic up on that viewing platform :cloud9: holding hands with your loved one and even though it was quite busy, we got a good spot and no-one pushed or shoved or anything, it was all very civillised. Once the fireworks finished, most people went back inside but we stayed out a few more minutes taking more photos and just taking it all in. We asked another couple to take a photo of us and they happily obliged so we got chatting to them about their holiday. They had DVC and were going home the next day and they were so pleased to hear it was our first trip and how much we were enjoying it. They were lovely!

We said goodbye to them and wished them a safe flight back and we headed back inside to our table to find our desserts waiting for us! Perfect!

Candles and Birthday plaques for both of us as the kitchen weren’t sure who’s birthday it was!! Bonusss :teeth:

S'Mores Valrhona Chocolate Cake - Warm chocolate cake w/molten center, Tahitian vanilla marshmallow, graham cracker sable, and peanut butter gelato $13

P1010257.jpg

P1010259.jpg

Bananas and Caramel - Crispy baked phyllo squares layered w/banana, caramel, mascarpone mousse, and caramelized banana $12

P1010258.jpg

Trouble was…I was soooooo full!!!! I took photos of my dessert, took one bite and melted in full on bliss and then couldn’t eat any more!!! I think Benj did quite well with his and when our server came back I had to persuade him to box it up for me so I could take it back!! He really wasn’t happy about it and kept saying that it wouldn’t be the same which I was fully aware of but I’d waited to eat this dessert for like a year and there was no way I was going home without it after taking one bite!!

Eventually he agreed to box it up for me like he was doing me a huge favour! Just give it to me dude!!!! I’m happy to report I ate it all the following day and it was DELICIOUS :teeth: I ate most of the ice-cream on the night though so don’t worry, I didn’t try and take that home! It was seriously amazing though, if you like peanut butter even a tiny bit then this ice-cream will be your new best friend!

Here is my dessert all boxed up:

And some general ambiance shots!

P1010264.jpg

Feeling the fullest I’ve ever felt in my whole life we paid the bill (used 4 x table service credits and paid OOP for the starters and drinkies) thanked our nice but pushy server and headed downstairs in the lift and out to the bus-stop. Fell asleep on the bus naturally, walked back to SSR and fell into bed about midnight. What a good day of food!!!!!!

 Uh oh! Do no American's like Olive Garden!? Is it a bit chain-y and not very nice? We have restaurants like that over here...Hungry Horse pubs spring to mind...but I guess with Olive Garden being American I was BOUND to love it and also, a not-very-good restaurant in the US is still about 8x better than a good restaurant over here!!

Well I know lots of people that do enjoy it. I don't really care for it, but I've only been there once. It is chain-y, but the interior is very nice. I'm a bit of a food snob because my best friend is Italian, and her parents are both chefs. Her mom owns a gourmet restaurant. I guess it's just not "authentic" Italian to me, haha. I'm used to the Europeans' stereotype that American food is cheap and caloric (pretty true) :rotfl: But when I'm traveling, I find that anything other than fast food just seems better because I make a lot of what I eat.

What a perfect evening at CG :cloud9:
I would love to try the 'veggie unplugged' I've never heard of that before so thanks for sharing :thumbsup2

I've been following along, but finally jumping in with comments. Loving your reviews! I really want to go to CG someday; that and Flying Fish are on my signature restaurants wish list! Oh, I'm an American and I like Olive Garden. :rotfl:

Oh, how we LOVE Cali Grill!!! Libby, you are not the first to post a negative review about the goat cheese ravioli! Many have said while they love the combined flavors of goat cheese and tomato, this ravioli is just too overpowering for them. This is why I avoided ordering it during my dinner there, though I was oh, so tempted to order it! I had sushi instead and that was incredible! And like you, I ordered the filet for my main...divine! Next time, try the pork tenderloin with goat cheese polenta. DH ordered that and I thought it was the best main on the table, even better than my filet, if that can be imagined! And THAT was the RIGHT amount of goat cheese!

Love the anniversary flowers and the eyelashes! Again, you and Benj are adorable! Keep up the great reviews!

Joining in! Really loving your report. It's so interesting to get a Non-American's view on our restaurants...like Friendly's and Olive Garden.

Just wanted to say a quick thank you for this trip report. My friend and I are heading back to the World on Thursday (1 day to go!!) and like you, we're 1 veggie and 1 carnivore. Your report has been invaluable, especialy the cali gril review - as someone who can never make up her mind the vegetarian unplugged looks perfect!!

Beautiful roses and very sweet. :goodvibes

We loved Cal Grill.

Poor Olive Garden is taking a beating. I can tell you they keep a very clean kitchen. And my kids love it. My foodie DH on the other hand isn't a fan. Their kids Mac n cheese is SO good; creamy and cheesy and just the right portion for me.
