Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

Here are some additional thoughts I have on the whole experience. This was my first half marathon ever, so I have nothing else to compare to.

Overall, I think Disney did a great job with this event.

We stayed at the Beach Club and never had trouble with getting a bus. There was always someone at the bus stop letting us know when the next bus was coming and where we needed to wait.

A couple of minor things.

1. There were parts of the course that seemed way to narrow. I was literally bumping into other people trying to pass because of this. This was mainly between HS and the Boardwalk.

2. At the after party, it was a mess at the crosswalk they had set up to allow people to get between FW and WS. It only opened every 4 minutes, and then only so many people could get across at once. This led to a big bottleneck at that area and lots of confusion.

3. I know there is nothing Disney can do about this. We were in corral C and right at the front. Within half a mile of starting, we were already passing a good amount of corral B people who were walking. Maybe this is normal, but if you are in corral B, I would not think you should be walking half a mile into the race. That tells me that you probably should not have been there. People also should have remembered to move to the right if they needed to slow down and walk.

Other than this, the after party was a great time. We had done F&W the day before so we did not need to worry about sampling a lot of things. We walked around, had a few drinks and just enjoyed the atmosphere. We left close to 4, and there were still a lot of people in WS, so I am not sure how much longer it took to clear them all out.

I agree. I felt so bad as I'd run right up someone's butt who was walking and have to stop short. No biggie, except if I had another runner behind me, it actually became pretty comical. My suggestion would be the organizers stress if you're going to run, stay on the far right and no more than 2-3 wide, especially through the narrower areas like through AK and along the sidewalk from DHS to Boardwalk.

I saw two strange things - a woman with a stroller. I thought strollers weren't allowed?? I later saw her on the side of the course, after animal kingdom. I'm shocked she got that far with the stroller. I wonder why she had the baby with her, maybe something happened to her babysitter??
and the person who finished last, had a 19 minute pace, started in corral A. that's weird, right?

I saw the woman with the stroller too. She almost ran into my uncle during the early part of the race. Overall I had fun. Now im just pumped for january

I forgot about DHS to Boardwalk. Like the entrance to AK, I remember having to stop running and start walking because it was so jammed. Now yes I was 3/1 run/walk but all I could see was walkers.

Finally time for me: 2:55 (not happy either)
I looked at me splits and could see why: 43 min 5k and 1:24 at 10k.

Wow...that was brutal. I can see where my time was destroyed.

But all said and done, this is why I ran this race. I now know what to expected for January. I am not running for a time. ;)

I ended up with a 2:31 time. Going in I felt I could do 2:20 or better. I lost time in DHS while looking at the lights and taking pictures, and some of the bottlenecks slowed me down as well. My shoes are also about dead, and I know that was the last race in them as my right side starting having issues with about 4 miles to go. I was at a decent pace until then.

Oh well. Live and learn. It was my first time, so I know what to expect if I ever run a Disney race again. Although the Disney Half and Princess Half courses look a little more open.

It's possible the person in corral A had some sort of medical issue/injury hapen on the course.

Its also possible someone qualified for corral A but ran along side friend in corral F for motivational support. My family does this for every disney race.

the reason I know she was in A was because her clock time matched her chip time. Her bib number was lower than it would have been to start in corral A, unless she was moved up at some point.

What corral was stroller lady in?

Glad to see that everyone had a pretty good time with the race. We will be watching this thread to see everyone's reviews/thoughts as we are considering doing this race next year instead of the TOT one that we did this year.

Congrats to everyone that ran the race! :thumbsup2

Hey everyone! I am on ME on the way to the airport. I had such a blast and loved meeting everyone! I think my biggest frustration came with the massive bottleneck between DHS and Epcot, where there were sometimes 4-5 people walking side by side and it was impossible to get through. Also, running in Epcot where I nearly had to stop dead in my tracks or almost fell because of spectators/party goers cutting through the runners to get to the opposite side. I did see a couple teen boys sneak onto the course just after AK, don't know what happened to them. I, by no means, had a great finishing time...but I finished and I am proud of that. Skipped the after party because I was too sore and tired. Overall, I loved the experience!!

Does anyone know how the Brightroom photo site works?

It looks like there are pictures there, but when I enter in my bib, all sorts of strange things happen. It tells me there are 10 pictures, but only 1 shows up. That picture is not even of me.

For my wife's bib, two hours ago there were two pictures of her. An hour ago, two completely different pictures, and right now another two different ones. It says she should have 14, but only two keep showing up.

The pictures will probably start showing up tonight or tomorrow.

From past races Brightroom usually takes a few days and will send an email once things are up and complete.

It is actually hilarious that people on the runDisney Facebook are complaining that they had to take a cab back to their non-host resort. I don't get what's so hard about staying at a host resort.
