Question about Expedition Everest

I am not good with roller-coasters. Just can't take 'em. I can take spinning all day long but it's the drops that my stomach can't seem to handle. For that reason, I haven't gone on Expedition Everest. I love Big Thunder Mt. Railroad, Test Track, and have gone on Space Mt (although I must admit I don't particularly enjoy Space Mt).

I am thinking about trying Expedition Everest and would like to ask someone else who might have a similar "problem" if they have tried Everest and how that worked out? Is EE similar to any of these other attractions?

I can't say that Everest has any tremendous drops necessarily, but personally, I don't handle the ride too well. I also love Big Thunder Mtn and Test Track and I like Space Mountain as well. I can even do the Rockin' Rollercoaster (but only because it's in the dark so I can't get so nervous!). Everest really bothers me though. The last time I rode it I actually got a pretty bad case of dizziness and couldn't walk straight for a bit. My problem with the ride seems to be how darn fast it goes backwards. It just throws me off. I'm not sure if I helped answer your question at all! For me personally, it's harder to handle than the others you listed, but not necessarily for the drop reason.

I skipped EE our 1st two trips and regret doing so. It was awesome. I'd say it's like doing Big Thunder Mtn RR, and add a small part where you go backward. Because some parts are dark, it feels a little faster, Go for it!!!!!

My son doesn't like drops at all. I talked him into going on Expedition Everest our last trip. He asked to go on it a second time but didn't want to any more after that.

I was a little nervous about the drop also. It ended up being the part where you go back up from the drop that made my head hurt. Also, the backwards part made my head hurt a little. I do suffer from frequent headaches though, and can't even ride Big Thunder more than about 3 times back to back without a break or I'll get an intense headache.

I hope that helps.

Hi there! I'm okay with all other rides at WDW but was very nervous about RnR when I first discovered it was a big coaster - but I was already at the front of the line by the time my friends informed me of this! :rotfl:

EE is one of my favourite rides now! I too was afraid of EE when I first saw it - that hill and drop look severe. My mom eventually dragged me on the ride during our last trip. I've got to say, on the way up I was panicking but as soon as we descended I never got to an uncomfortable point where I regretted the ride. I even had FUN! I always go on EE now. I saw try it out, see if you like it - that's the only one way you will find out.

I can't handle drastic drops (including many thrill coaster at my local Six flags). I can't do Tower of Terror.

I LOVE RnR, Big Thunder and Expedition Everest! The worst part is going backwards, but its over quickly. The rest of the ride is no worse than Big Thunder Mtn.

Try it!

I was with my boyfriend to WDW during Christmas last year. It was our first time ever at WDW and my boyfriend lives for roller coasters. I, however, am not a big fan of heights and I get small panic attacks before I go on a roller coaster. I had one while we were waiting in line for EE because of how high I saw it from outside of the ride. But it actually wasn't that bad. I think going backwards was the best part. I'm definitely glad that I pushed my fears of heights aside and went on this ride.

Everest is not a favorite of mine. I love RNR & Space, but I'm not good with spinning rides like Teacups. I have ridden Everest several times & always come off feeling sick. The backward part makes my head hurt more than RNR or any of the others.

I think it's worth trying once to see for yourself.

Enjoy your trip!

EE is pretty tame, definitely less crazy than RnR. There's nothing about EE that stands out as tough to stomach - RnR has corkscrews and EE doesn't. The backwards part is no worse than the forwards part. Give it a try, it is a blast.

EE is just at my limit of tolerance, perhaps slightly beyond. I'm fine on BTMRR and SM, but RnR is too intense for me. I have tried EE a couple of times, but prefer to just watch from the sidelines.

I agree with the PPs who said it is not really worse than BTMRR. I was scared the first time as well, but it really has never bothered me. I could see where the backwards part bothers some, but I think that is more the motion of it than anything else. I am not a big heights and drops person. (I will do TOT for my DH, but only under protest!) I also enjoy BTMRR and Space. My advice is to try it once and see how it goes. I don’t feel it is any different than BTMRR except you go backwards for part of it.

Everest is now my Favorite ride. I don't do amusement park roller coasters, but Love Disneys coasters. I don't prefer Space Mountain, it's just too rough for me. Love RNRC too! BTM used to be my fav, but EE is number one in my book. I say give it a try at least once, you may be surprised!

When going backwards hold your hands up. Really weird, but really helped. My dd7 said it worked. Tried it and really liked backward after that.

I love BTMRR, but have never attempted Splash (no way, not with that drop) or Space Mountain.

Last October we faced our "fears" and tried EE. It was fun, but quite intense (IMO, but I'm a big chicken). I did feel a bit "woozy" when we got off, but I was fine - I just didn't think I could ride it twice in one day.

I'm glad I tried it, and I'll probably ride it again sometime, but I definitely prefer BTMRR any day (DD16 feels the same way, too).

Google is telling me that Expedition Everest's forward drop is about 80 feet. In comparison, the drop for Splash Mtn. is around 50. If you ride Splash and like it, you're probably good, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.

I don't do roller coasters that go upside down or have huge drops. I LOVED EE! I didn't find it too extreme at all. And it's pretty short too. I say give it a try!

I don't doubt the numbers, but I like Everest much better than Splash. To me, it does not *feel* like an 80 foot drop on Everest. Splash, on the other hand, is all about the drop and I hate that part of the ride! It really is hard to say yes or no- everyone reacts differently to each ride. Ultimately, OP, you need to decide if you are willing to try it once even if you wind up hating it- just to say you did it- or not.

I can't answer your specific question, but I find this fascinating because I am exactly the opposite. I am 100% fine with and enjoy roller coasters (as long as they aren't old, rickety wooden things that hurt my back). But put me on a spinning tea cup and I will be sick as a dog for the rest of the day!

I can say that, though I've loved all the other WDW roller coasters including Everest-- which is my second favorite behind Rock n' Rollercoaster--, I don't care for Space Mountain either. Awesome theme, but it's rough on my neck and back and the sensations just aren't as pleasant. I'll keep riding it but it's my least favorite, I'm afraid.

Hope you can discern whether or not Everest will work for you, OP. It is enjoyable for the "story" if nothing else!

I agree that it's pretty tame, the drop is fun but far from anything extreme but I tend to get a bit dizzy in the backwards helix section,my 64 year old mom rides it all day no problem with no issues on the backwards part but it has some effect on me.I'll still ride it like 4-5 times in a row but I have a limit.Kinda shows how some people have issues with some rides and others don't.Some people have issues with the drop on ToT,I literally could ride that 24 hours in a row if asked,Ask me Disney,I'm up for it!!I've been on some of the biggest fastest coasters out there like Dragster and Millenium Force at Cedar Point and again,no issues whatsoever on those, ride them all day long, but a coaster like Manta at Sea World where your legs get restrained either gives me anxiety or claustrophobia, don't know which,I'll still ride it once but if I get stuck for a longer than normal time with my legs restrained I might just have a freak out moment. That's why I don't question peoples issues with different rides, what might not bother you can be awful for somebody else.
