The Incredible Expanding Women - 14 days on the DxDP ~ COMPLETE!

We have never dined at Restaurant Marrakesh. It just hasn't fit into the rotation... That and I simply always forget about it when planning meals!

I am sorry to hear your meal was SO BAD! Sound like horrible service on top of bad food which just makes the meal even worse!

I have to say Morocco was the worst food booth for us during F&W so it doesn't exactly make us want to dine there!

It was a very disappointing experience. It started out promising but went downhill fast when the entrees arrived. We really wanted to like it but it was just awful. :( I wish we'd tried some of the F&W offerings from Morocco, it might have saved us that experience, LOL!

I enjoyed my dinner at BOG in December too!! I had the seafood dish and loved it. I opted for the Lemon cupcake and all I can sya is WOW, it was delish !!!

That lemon cupcake was very tempting to me too as I LOVE lemon meringue pie. :lovestruc Good to know it tastes as good as it looks! :thumbsup2

Never tried Restaurant Marrakesh. Ate at Tangerine café once and did NOT like it at all. Nothing on the menu at Marrakesh appeals and after your review I too will not be going !!

I've had a few things from Tangierine Cafe and actually enjoyed it, I LOVE their hummus! Marrakesh was a let down though. :(

Thanks for continuing to read and comment! :goodvibes

On our first trip in 2008, we had lunch at Tangierine and loved it. So in 2010 on our second WDW trip we decided to try dinner at Marrakesh. We didn't like it at all. We also had sub par service. It's not that the food was bad, it just wasn't anything special for us. It was also one and done for us.

I'm enjoying reading all of your reviews! We're going to dinner at BoG for the first time this July, and looking forward to it! Can't wait to read the rest of your reviews!

I've also enjoyed selections from Tangierine Cafe and was really looking forward to trying Marrakesh, as was Nancy. The poor service certainly added insult to injury when combined with the disappointing entrees.

Thanks so much for reading along! :goodvibes

Marrakesh looks awful. I had thought about it, but it looks as if it couldn't hold a candle to our local Lebanese restaurant.

We have an amazing local Lebanese restaurant too (The Cedar Grill) and I was hoping Marrakesh would be similar but it wasn't even remotely close. I'll have to take my sister there one day so she can see how it should be done!

Thanks for reading!

I enjoyed reading all your reviews. They fueled my excitement for my upcoming trip of 8 days on the DxDP!

First of all, :welcome: to the DISboards!

You must be getting really excited, your trip is getting so close! The DxDP is a lot of food, but it's wonderful as it gives you plenty of opportunity to try many different places. Have an amazing trip and thanks for reading! :goodvibes

You don't see many reviews of Marrakesh, what a bummer that it wasn't good!

Enjoying reading along as a DxDDP fan!

What a shame your Moroccan meal wasn't very nice, we spent a week touring Morocco last year (the real one :rotfl: ) and we weren't keen on the food at all so definitely won't be booking to dine at the Epcot restaurant :rotfl2:

Yes, Marrakesh was definitely a bust. Oh well, we can check another WS restaurant off our to-try list. It definitely won't be on our repeat list, lol.

Thanks for reading along! :goodvibes

Wow, I'll bet that was a very interesting experience! It's too bad the real thing doesn't offer tempting food either. Maybe Marrakesh is a true representation of the cuisine? Definitely a disappointment, and we were really wanting to like it.

Thanks for reading Jo! :goodvibes

After our very disappointing experience at Restaurant Marrakesh, we were looking forward to our dinner at La Hacienda de San Angel. We had dinner here on our last sisters trip in 2011 and really enjoyed it. Would it be as good this time? Read on.

Our ADR was scheduled for 8pm and we checked in around 7:45. We were seated right on time at a two-top one table away from the window. It was a great location to watch Illuminations at 9. :thumbsup2

We decided it was high time we enjoyed another margarita, and we both decided on the Classic Lime this time.

HSA_Margaritas.jpg

Cheers!

Instead of a bread service, La Hacienda supplies complimentary tortilla chips, served with two different salsas, red and green. The red is a hearty, spicy chipotle blend and the green is a mild tomatillo salsa that has the bright, light taste of cilantro and lime. We enjoyed the chips and both salsas. I didn't take a picture this time, but here's a picture from 2012, when DH and I dined there.

lhsachipssalsa.jpg

Those hairy arms definitely do not belong to my sister! :lmao:

Nancy chose a salad as her appetizer.

HSA_Salad.jpg

Ensalada de la Hacienda: spinach salad with queso fresco, tomatoes, pomegranate, pine nuts and avocado, with mustard vinaigrette dressing.

Nancy enjoyed the salad and gave it 3.5/5

I ordered:

HSA_Queso.jpg

Queso Fundido: melted cheese with poblano peppers, chorizo, and flour tortillas.

This was only ok. It was barely lukewarm when we got it and almost impossible to spread because the cheese was rock hard. It had an oil slick sitting on top from the congealed cheese which wasn't appetizing at all. :crazy2: It might have been good had it been served as soon as it was ready, but as it was I can only give it 2/5.

For our entree, we decided to share one of the platters.

HSA_Platter.jpg

Parrillada la Hacienda (serves 2): Mixed grill offering New York strip, chicken al pastor, chorizo and vegetables, served with beans and fresh salsas.

This was our choice in 2011 and it was just as delicious as we remembered! The steak was extremely tender and was cooked to a medium doneness, as requested. The chicken was moist, tender and perfectly spiced and those little sausages are addictive! The corn that they serve is complemented by a creamy, cheesy, slightly spicy sauce and tastes wonderful when mixed with the black beans and rice that accompanies the meal.

HSA_Rice.jpg

Soooo good!! 4.5/5

For dessert, we both chose:

HSA_Turnover.jpg

Empanada de Manzana: caramel apple empanada with dulce de leche ice cream, caramel sauce, and fresh berries.

This was truly delicious. Flaky, buttery pastry surrounding a generous portion of caramel-enrobed apples with more of that amazing caramel sauce draped over the top. The ice cream was cold perfection with thick ribbons of caramel throughout. The berries were fresh and ripe and their tartness added just the right contrast. We both enjoyed it immensely! :thumbsup2 4.5/5

Overall, La Hacienda gets 4/5 stars from both of us. My appetizer fell flat and was disappointing but Nancy's salad was fresh and tasty. The entree and dessert were top notch. On top of that, we got to watch Illuminations while seated comfortably enjoying dessert and coffee. A great way to end a day in Epcot! :thumbsup2

Up next: Our last full day at WDW  with lunch at Mama Melrose and dinner at Artist Point.

Your dinner at La Hacienda looks super yummy! Those beans and rice, and that dessert, oh my!! Sorry about the queso fundido appy though. It's disappointing that it wasn't melted enough due to sitting out for a few minutes.

We haven't been to La Hacienda, but we eat lunch at San Angel Inn on every trip. I wish they served lunch at La Hacienda though. We do dinner in Germany and Italy on our Epcot days, and Garden Grill also, for the kids to have a nice character experience plus DH and I like the food there as well.

Well at least you got a good meal for dinner minus your appetizer! Congealed cheese does not sound appetizing!

We haven't dined there because they dont take the TIW discount and we don't use the Dining Plan. I like my savings lol.

Great review! I have never cared for queso fundido it's like rubber to me lol. The mixed grill sounds wonderful as does the view you had for fireworks!

Did the meal come with tortillas too? On the menu it says that it does but I've never seen them in pictures lol

The appetizer was a disappointment, but the rest of the meal more than made up for it. We've had great luck at LH every time we've gone and I've got an ADR for our upcoming trip too, lol!

I'm really contemplating returning to San Angel Inn this trip as I've read some very favourable reviews lately. We've gone a couple of times in the past and while it's been good, we were never really blown away by it. You can't beat the ambience though, it's such a gorgeous spot! I've also been really tempted by Garden Grill, it seems like a great choice for a character meal. I love the fact that it's not a buffet and therefore there's no chance you're going to miss one of the characters because you're away from the table getting food. :thumbsup2 I think we'll definitely visit when we take our grandson sometime in the near future. :lovestruc

LOL, I can't blame you for that Paula! No, the appy was definitely a let down, but the rest of the meal was first rate so I was willing to forgive them. ;)

I hope you and Hunter are having a wonderful time! Can't wait to read about it when you return. :thumbsup2

No, the queso was definitely a mistake, lesson learned, lol. The mixed grill was heavenly, as was the view. :goodvibes

really enjoyed all your pics so far

Thank you!

I should not read your DR while hungry. :upsidedow

LOL, and I shouldn't write it while hungry. The cookies in the pantry keep calling me. :listen:

Did the meal come with tortillas too? On the menu it says that it does but I've never seen them in pictures lol

Yes, it comes with a covered plate of warm tortillas. You can ask for refills of rice, beans and tortillas if you wish. We never have as we've never managed to get through it all the first time.

Thanks so much for reading everyone! I'm hoping to get this report wrapped up soon, I'll be back with more updates this weekend. :goodvibes

I'm a few reviews behind .... going back to ....

Flying Fish: I will try this for the first time next week. I'm not a big fish fan but so I hope it has some decent alternatives. That banana dessert looks like it has my name on it!

GF Café: I'm a HUGE fan of the French toast. I don't think I'll ever order anything else. It's one of the restaurants that has not been missed in all our trips.

Marrakesh: Wow, that was a big fail for lunch. I ordered the chicken kabobs there in the past and the chicken wasn't overcooked and the couscous was warm so I think you definitely had an off day. Or maybe they've just gone downhill in the last year. Sorry that was so bad for you guys. The dessert looks like it was tasty!

La Hacienda: The server talked me out of getting the queso app. It looks good - I wish you enjoyed it better. If it was served hot maybe that would have been a vast improvement. :confused3 At least the margaritas should have been good!

While FF certainly wasn't our favourite Signature, we enjoyed our meal and the whimsical decor. The dessert was fabulous!

The French toast was phenomenal! Nancy and I both enjoyed it and would definitely be on our "do again" list. :thumbsup2

The couscous was supposed to be warm? I assumed since it was so cold it was meant to be served that way. Wow, it was even worse than I thought! :crazy2: The dessert was lovely and we both really enjoyed the mint tea. I would definitely return for those two items but the rest was just blech.

La Hacienda: The server talked me out of getting the queso app. It looks good - I wish you enjoyed it better. If it was served hot maybe that would have been a vast improvement. :confused3 At least the margaritas should have been good!

I wish our server had done the same. I was also seriously considering the same salad Nancy got but in the interest of reviewing different things I chose the queso. I think had it arrived hot and melty it would have been so much better. Oh well, I didn't really need it and the rest of the meal was excellent, including the amazing margaritas! :drinking1

Thanks for continuing to follow along!
:goodvibes

On our last full day at Disney :( we decided to start off with breakfast at POFQ since we had a later lunch reservation at Mama Melrose.

We both decided to have another one of these little critters.

POFQ_Waffle_Raspberries1.jpg

POFQ_Waffle_Raspberries2.jpg

YUM!!

We also got a grapefruit juice and filled our mugs with coffee. Well fueled by carbs, sugar and caffeine, we were ready to take on Hollywood Studios! :thumbsup2

Before too long, we had arrived at our destination.

HS_Monsters_Uni.jpg

We loved that topiary!

We spent the morning riding our favourites and seeing the shows we missed on our previous visit. We checked in at 1:15 for our 1:25 ADR at Mama Melrose.

MM_Mural.jpg

MM_Sign.jpg

The lobby was packed and they were turning away people who were trying to get walk-ups. We waited until 1:50 before we were seated. It was our first experience here and it was obvious we'd made a popular choice, lol.

Despite the restaurant being so full, our server was quick to stop by with some ice water which we greatly appreciated. It was hot in the Studios that day!

We both chose the same appetizer and entree. Yeah, we do that a lot. ;)

MM_Tomato_Mozz.jpg

Fresh Mozzarella and Vine-Ripened Tomatoes: with marinated sweet onions, balsamic drizzle, basil-scented olive oil and fresh sweet basil.

This was a lovely, light appetizer and was a great way to start the meal. The tomatoes were perfectly ripe and juicy and the mozzarella was creamy and delicious. We both really enjoyed it. 4/5
You can also see the bread service in the photo. They serve the standard white dinner rolls available in many Disney restaurants. They were warm, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. They were served with olive oil but you can request butter if you wish.

Before too long, our entrees arrived.

MM_Pasta.jpg

Chicken Campanelle: wood-grilled chicken over Campanelle pasta tossed with four-cheese sauce with broccoflower, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh spinach and sweet onions. This can also be served with shrimp instead of chicken for $2 more. We were happy with chicken.

This was delicious!! The pasta was served al dente, there was plenty of chicken and lots of sauce. You can't really tell by the photo, but this was a huge serving! Nancy and I both remarked that it could easily be shared, especially if you're also having apps and dessert. 4/5

Nancy wanted something light for dessert so she chose:

MM_Panna_Cotta.jpg

Seasonal Panna Cotta: No sugar added Vanilla Flavoured Custard with Seasonal Fruit Compote (raspberry).

Nancy LOVED this! She said it was smooth, light and a perfect finish to her meal. 5/5

I chose:

MM_Spumoni.jpg

Gelato: choice of Chocolate, Vanilla or Spumoni.

I chose Spumoni and it was heavenly! 4/5

We really, really enjoyed our meal here and would definitely return! Overall, we give Mama Melrose 4/5. :thumbsup2

Up next: dinner at Artist Point.

Mama Melrose sounds lovely. I could just eat your dinner now !! That pasta looks delicious. We have never been here, but it certainly sounds worth a visit :happytv:
