Training while at WDW? How to balance?

I'm currently in training for a local Half. I will need to do a 6 miler while at WDW in two weeks. I'll be staying at AKV and doubt that there's anywhere around there I can run, so I'm ok with being on a dreadmill.

For those of you who've done this, you think I'd be ok getting up early, doing my 6 on a d'mill, then hitting the parks (hoping to make it to closing for Wishes at MK). Or should I cut the training run short, knowing that I'll be moving more throughout the day?

Absolutely. I have never run at AKL or in the area, but at other resorts I get up well before the rest of my party, get my run in, before we all head out to rope drop. I either follow the paths the resorts have marked or will run on the roads. I have never had to do a very long run while on a Disney vacation (no more than 6 miles), so have not had dead legs while walking around the parks or impacted anyone else since my runs are done so early. Heck, usually I am the early riser dragging everyone out of bed for rope drop.

May want to look, but there are some decent paths around AKL since it has Jambo and Kidani. I just did a quick google distance measure and came up with about 3000 ft from far end of kidani to far end of jambo, using just the sidewalks. So that's about .6 miles, or 1.2 roundtrip. So it would be doable outside.

Or better yet, head to boardwalk in the AM.. If you run from the ferry landing at DHS, to the boardwalk area, all the way around the circle at BW, BC, Yacht club and back, that is 2.5 miles round trip.. do that twice.. boom 5 miles and it's a really nice path...

I love getting the chance to run at Disney. I have different routes that I've run at most of the Deluxes. As stated above the Boardwalk to studios loop is a great run. Given that you'll be AKL though and it sounds like you don't want your run to impact family park time I'm going to focus on AKL. I think the treadmills are in the Gym by the pool. I've run on them and they are okay. If you want to run when it's dark this is probably your best option. If you can run when it's light I think I've used something close to this 2.5 mile loop before.

As mentioned before, the Epcot resorts have some amazing routes. Luckily, that's where we always stay and it's one of the things I look forward to on my trips. When I wasn't running that much, I still found time to run over there. I love it in the morning because there's less people and you get to see the parks and resort areas wake up and come alive.

A quick google search provides a number of websites that have maps and things like that. Unfortunately it doesn't look like there's much at AKL so you might have to get creative or run laps to and from Kidani and Jambo House.
