Walking the 5/10K?

I comfortably walk at a good pace and have done local 5 and 10k. After watching some videos of last weekend and hearing in the podcast that some people do walk it, I really want to jump in and do the 5 and 10k during the star wars marathon in April.

I didn't see any information about pace you need to maintain if you wanted to walk it. Can someone point me in the correct direction?

You need to maintain a 16:00 min/mile pace. The 5K is usually a little more family friendly as they don't track your time so that might be your best option. However with that said I believe the 5K and 10k for this April are sold out so you would need to wait until next year.

My husband and I walked the entire Jingle Jungle 5K last November and we finished in about an hour, which is more than the 16:00 min pace they require for the races. We bypassed all of the characters, as I was more concerned about just finishing the race. There were plenty of people that finished after us as well. Good luck. And as many will say, there is nothing like running/walking a runDisney event. Can't wait for our next one!

I know with the 5K they will let you walk it with out sweeping you. Though if you are the slowest the golf carts will follow behind you. My Mom caught the flu right before we went to the Avengers Weekend where I ran all the races and she was supposed to run the 5K with me. Instead we ran to the first character, got in line and while in line the CM warned us that if we didn't leave now we would only meet Captain America, then the carts pulled up. Everyone got their photo and could run/walk off and finish the course or they could catch a ride. I took off and sent mom to the carts. She was the second to last to finish. Only on person was asked to get in the cart but that was due to injury. My mom only came in second to last because there was a lady she and the carts followed who wanted to be last.
So basically with in reason you can go at any pace in the 5K :)
But as rteektz said, the 10K pace is 16 min mile starting when the last person crosses the start.

Thanks for all the info, I walk all day long but never really checked pace time. I'll go for a stroll and see where I am for a 10k this weekend.

I'm glad you asked this. My husband is doing his first 5K in April. He has his walk time down to around 14 to 15 minute miles. I didn't know they didn't sweep for the 5K. But will relay the info to him.

Fwiw DH and DS finished the SW 5k today in an average of just under 28 minutes (they stopped only briefly once or twice) and there were a ton of people behind them. They were in the second of three corrals. The timing (for sweeping) should start from the last person to leave the last corral. So unless you're that person you're ok even when over 16 min.

Just know that walking it, even at a 15:00/mm will likely not allow for time to stop for pictures other than a couple of quick selfies and/or a bathroom stop if it's required.

I've never done a Disney 10K outside of a challenge, so I can't remember if they require proof of time for corraling (my husband did the 10K last weekend, but for the life of me - I can't remember if I put in PoT for him or not), but there is also a likelihood that you will be in the last corral, which will also cut in to your "fun time" on the course.

So - just a couple of things to think about! As far as bibs go, if you do decide to sign up, you'll need to act fast. I know Acclaim has 5 and 10K bibs left.

When I got my husband to do his first Disney 5k I oopps forgot to tell him that ;) as I didn't want him to rest on the idea he didn't have to train.. we ended up finishing just over 45 min which for him is fantastic (and I've now got him signed up for another Disney 5k (dark side) and a virtual one)
