Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Doesn't surprise me.. since they 'won' the award of slowest avg finishing time in the us I think last year? It seems that of all dis races the 13.1 miles of princess are given the least 'respect' with so many more people not being trained properly to safely complete the distance... And many of those knowingly plan to be swept to the point it almost comes off as its more unusual to race princess vs treating it as a costumed fun run...
Also think it's more difficult for people to train that are in colder weather states... November - Feb training is not optimal, sadly.

Hope my husband gave some of you some laughs. It definitely made my day/month/year!

Apparently he scared a few people for being well, a man and according to the Facebook group - people were wondering!

He went all in and had a lot of fun! His pace suffered a bit as apparently his pants wouldn't stay up (that is what he gets for ordering 'small' compression pants from China) and the nails fell off at Mile 2. He's also glad he wore his princess shirt underneath to avoid the chaffing!

I don't know about y'all, but if those boxes had a big burger, pizza or some breakfast tacos in them, I would actually take them.

Who wants to eat that stuff after a race? I want French fries.
I asked the guy if it had bacon in it. The worst was that I could smell food all through Epcot and then my box had birdseed!

YES. I'll have what she's having!!!

It would have been great to get a picture with your husband. It's funny you said scaring people. While we were waiting near the stage my daughter's boyfriend was watching a guy come walking towards us apparently eyeing me and turned around when he saw what sex I was. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Agreed! We were running late though. We woke up at 2:30AM, thinking we would be out the door at 3:00AM. It took us almost an hour to get him ready (I had to put on his compression sleeves, socks and shoes for him b/c he can't handle long nails) and then doing his make up and getting the wig on. We totally underestimated the time! (Usually it takes us all of 10 minutes to get ready for a race and get out the door) When we got downstairs at AKL at 3:30 - the line was inside to hte lobby and we had to wait for the 3rd bus to get there. We got to the EPCOT Parking Lot around like 4:15AM, I think, and I was having a panic attack about getting to my corral as I like being in the front of it so we didn't really stop and do anything in the prerace area, except a selfie with another friend of mine.

Both you and my husband were such great sports about dressing up! You two really embraced the Princess Theme :)

How can I get Harvey's to notify me when a bag comes back in stock? The Minnie tote I wanted is sold out and I finally have the money to buy it!

So even with losing my voice last week (have officially deemed it laryngitis because I still sound like a strangled cat :crazy2:), I had an amazing 10k and was able to run the whole thing without stopping! First time I've been able to do that in a race! :cheer2::banana:I think I finished 235 out of 16xx in my division. Now for the half ..... I felt amazing when I started running and then I felt a pain in my right knee right before mile 2. I was about to have a panic attack. I walked sooner than expected because I was hoping it would go away like it has in my training runs, NOPE. Ran the half with a throbbing pain in my knee. I walked more than usual, but I ran a hefty amount and just kind of 'ignored' my knee. Came in at 2:20:59. Three minutes faster than Princess last year and I did the Glass Slipper this year! All in all very proud of myself :hyper: I didn't help the probably by basically getting on a plane right after the half haha.

Back to reality now until Tink!

THE FOOD BOX:
Ate the protein bar when I got on bus. Ate the coconut popcorn after I showered. Ate the snack mix and chews waiting for plane. Still have the goldfish cracker and mint. I kind of liked the box.

On the resort bus after the race I chatted up a girl. She had gone to Runner Relations and got her corral placement changed for P to A..she said without a problem. She said she forgot to submit a time and had emailed trackshack the day after date and they said no.

And my legs are so sore today...not complaining...still so happy to break the two hour mark!

Still waiting on the finish line photos from marthonfoto, but plenty are already up.

Congrats to everyone!

I definitely didn't take into account how hard it is to stop for pictures, wait in line, and then get started running again. With everything in the Magic Kingdom it took 36 minutes for one mile. Crazy! I estimated with waiting in line and my average for the 10k I would spend about 4 hours on the half - and I finished at 4:01 (my "normal" time is around 2:30). It's a lot harder to be out there for so long. But I got a ton of pictures so totally worth it!

It wasn't a bad box. I just really miss the chips and cheese! That's interesting about POT. I heard that from someone else too.

My wife and I were very similar. We started in corral F, but finished in 3:24 (exactly an hour more than our PR). For both the 10k and Half, it was relatively cold at race start, and running (warming up), stopping for pictures (getting cold), starting up again (warming up), stopping (brrrr).... and so on... was much more challenging than we anticipated. Our longest stop was almost 10 minutes for the princes at mile 2 of the Half. Of course, when we saw them again on the way back to Epcot, their line was about 1/4 of what we waited in. Live and learn!

Overall, I had a BLAST this weekend! I think the highlight of the 10K was getting a picture with Lumiere and Cogsworth. LADIES! IT WAS LUMIERE AND COGSWORTH! LUMIERE AND COGSWORTH! Ahem. I was a little bit excited.

At the Princess Half Marathon, we were a little surprised at the lack of princesses on the course. We got pictures before the race, but the only ones we saw during the race were Aurora/Belle as you're leaving the MK. We ended up skipping that line, because I believe we would still be waiting in that line right now. We did get lots of great pictures, though, and I really like the "live photos" feature of the new iPhone. It's very cool to see all the action behind us in our pictures.

Best Part of the Weekend: Another fun race with wife in the most Magical Place on Earth!
Most Expensive Part of the Weekend: We MAY have signed up for the Dark Side Challenge while at the expo. Let's just say that mistakes were made. Expensive mistakes. And let's not call them mistakes, but opportunities for glory. Yeah, that sounds better.

Oh, hey, a question!

I looked all over for MarathonFoto at the expo, and didn't see until today that they were over at the bib pick up location. Did they have any specials or codes for buying a GSC photo package? I usually nab whatever deal they have at the expo.

My friend and I had a blast for the 5 and 10k! I RAN THE WHOLE 5K! I can't make it a mile at home without a run break! She was perfect to run with and has the same pace as me. The 10k was fine for the first 3 miles. Then my knees were like "NOPE". So I power walked the rest and it was fine. Still had a great pace and kept up with my friend who was running.

We didn't stop for characters. The lines were super long and none of them interested us. I was a little surprised there were not more characters, especially for the 10k.

We got to the expo right at 10 on Thursday. The packet pick up line was very long, but moved really fast. The expo? Oh my. The line outside was not being controlled at all. It was getting mixed up with the line for packet pick up. There were multiple lines and NO ONE was helping get it under control. We finally got into the expo and while busy, it was fine. No punches were thrown! The line to pay at RD was long but again, moved really fast.
