I'm having an issue with my Mac, but only on DisBoards...

For the past week or two, I've noticed that when I am on the Disboards for any length of time, my Mac motor starts spinning and getting super hot and gets really loud sounding..almost like a jet getting read to take off.

Is anyone else having this happen to them? It's upsetting because I love these boards and when it does this, it starts freezing and I have to get off.

Anyone have a suggestion to fix this? Does it have anything to do with the annoying pop-up voice ad I keep hearing now too? I don't know how to get rid of that either but it's REALLY annoying. Any advice? Thanks!

We are mac users (six macs in our house). I only use my laptop and my phone for disboards. What browser are you using? I have noticed lately that when im using chrome my laptop has a lot of trouble processing and gets hot, but as soon as I switch over to safari it's fine--pages load quickly and completely and the processor does not get taxed. This has been an issue for me for a week or so.

I'm on Safari. I also notice that pages are not loading well…half the page will be gray and takes forever to load. This is definitely a recent change. I can't be on here for more than 5 minutes without it stating up again. Then I "X" out of the tab and the motor seems to die down. It's making me crazy, and it's a very recent change.

Mine was the opposite. I had to switch to chrome instead of Safari.But make sure to clear your cookies as well.

OMG Yes!!!! EVERY time I would go on dis, the fan would go off and like you said, it was like a jet taking off. I goggled it and did the following and it stopped it.

This only started happening to me recently, and I thought I was going crazy because I kept hearing that weird voice too!!!!

Any idea how to clear cookies?

I googled mine to find out where to locate the cookies. Just type in how to clear the cookies from the type of the computer you have and it will walk you through it. And if you have a router there are times you need to unplug the router wait 30 seconds before plugging it back in. I usually have to turn my router back into the cable company as they go out of date as well.

I am having the same issue with my Windows laptop. for the last 3 weeks or so the Disboards hang up and don't load properly or after a few minutes on the Dis there is a lag time from when I type on the keyboard to when the characters show up on the screen. I also can't scroll down the page. I have to exit out and restart my computer. Doesn't happen on any other website.

Yup. I'm using Firefox on my laptop and just within the last few days I started getting a Pop up bar telling me that my Adobe Flash was out of date only on the DIS. I had to click to allow the DIS.

I also can't scroll down the page. I have to exit out and restart my computer. Doesn't happen on any other website.

That also happened to me...I was typing a reply and had to keep stopping to wait for the typing to catch up. I'm glad these issues aren't just happening to me and I hope there's something the admins can do to fix them. I switched over to Chrome and I am hearing the jet engine sound so have to get out now anyway. So frustrating!

The only time the fan kicks on my desktop is when hubby or dd have been watching movies on it. I guess it overheats and it's cooling itself off? - I turn it off and give it a break. Not sure if it's the same thing everyone here is talking about.

I believe the boards are down for maintenance early every morning.

For other issues, I would try adding Adblock Plus if you haven't yet.

Same thing here with my home computer. I have Windows and have tried Explorer (terrible) and Google Chrome (a little better). My laptop is a Mac. Disboards is acting up on it too. And the only site I am having issues with is Disboards!

I'm glad you hear the voice too! oh look there it is now. And its not even an ad, it is just weird talking with no way to turn it off except for mute. I REALLY hate that and it's only on the dis.

I had that voice thing a few years back. It was crazy annoying.

I don't remember what fixed it, maybe a virus scan? Try clearing your cookies too. If none of that works, I would do a system restore back a bit to before it started happening.

I have that issue, but only on my work computer. Never happens on my home computer. Both are Windows and both are using Chrome.

I use my iPad most of the time but I hear the voice when I log in on my iMac. I haven't figured out how to turn it off either, so I mute the computer.

I've been using Safari and the site has been slow to load at times and there have been annoying ads with sound (but no actual picture or video) so I have to mute my computer on this site. Yeah, I should install ad blocker but it's seriously only an issue on this site.

There are multiple threads about this on the tech board so yes, it is a big issue that is affecting many people and it's only coming from this site. Only time will tell if the problem will ever be addressed, or CAN be addressed for that matter. Though I have to believe that it's fixable.

I'm on a PC/Chrome and I've been having issues for a couple weeks. It's always freezing or lagging and I have to refresh or close and get back on constantly. I only have problems with DIS.
