Discovery Cove in Jan 2017

Has anyone been to Discovery Cove in January? Hows the weather in Orlando? I know the website says the water is heated, but is it still cold outside? Last time I went was 4 years ago in April and it was amazing!

I'm going for the first time in early December and am worried about the weather. I really can't tolerate cold water well. Hopefully, someone can answer for you.

Florida weather in Jan is driven mostly by whatever cold fronts are impacting rest of southeastern US on those days - we just get a much milder version. My guess would be low through mid 70s on most days. If a major cold front is hitting rest of eastern U.S, then maybe 50s-60s that day. It would be rare to go colder than that during the day. However, realize the water temp of the lagoon (where you'll be snorkeling) is always kept at low 70s no matter when you go for the benefit of the sea life within it. And low 70s water temps feel cold if outside air temps are 60s/low 70s as well.

We've had unseasonably warm Dec weather the past couple of years - so your Dec trip may work out great. It's been good for visiting tourists! But I hate it. :sad1: I sweat through 8-9 months out of the year dreaming of those wonderful cooler "winter" months - and we always go to WDW then. It's a bummer to me when it's 88 degrees+ and I'm looking at holiday decor. But that's just me!

I guess we are ones that don't mind cool. Day started at 62 degrees, but warmed to the mid 70's when we went on Christmas 3 years ago. You can wear a short or long wetsuit, and that definitely helps with the cool, plus, the lazy river, is like bath water warm, and we hung out there quite often. Lastly, they have heaters around you can always stand next to, that and a ton of towels around ya.

I am hoping it's unusually warm this Christmas. My kids both wanted Discovery Cove for Christmas again.

And, I hope you have a great time and great weather when you go.

When you're coming from sub-freezing temps, 60 degrees is heavenly lol.

We take long-sleeved rash guards, helps to keep warm, especially when it's windy.

Just hope for sunshine:flower1:

We were there in Nov. 2014, when there was a nasty rainy cold front in FLA. It was a low in the 40s! I was freaked about DC! We did have a little sun that day and temps reached around 70. We wore the short wet suits for the dolphin swim and in the reef. Never cold, and the other heated areas felt good. FLA weather is unpredictable. We actually may try to sneak DC in for our January 2017 trip, I have left a day open!

Wow. I wish I could say that. I was freezing in the reef - had to wear a full wetsuit (not a shortie) and it was 80 degrees out! :crazy2: (And this is from someone who truly loves cold weather - I've gone night skiiing in CO and Utah during temps in the low teens and was fine when everyone else was miserable.) But it's just something about cold water - for some reason, my body can't tolerate it. Lucky for DC, there are more people like you or it would be mighty slow in winter.

Went many times in September. I once joked to staff that I can't imagine coming in winter since the water is already so cold. They said it is actually much better because the change from air to water isn't so bad, water won't feel as cold. Yeah, sure ...........

Couple years ago whole family was there for Christmas so we booked it. I was nervous. It was AWESOME! Staff was right. In nice weather took me forever to get in water each time because it felt so cold. But in December I could walk right in, off and on all day. I wouldn't hesitate to do winter trip again (and the price was great!)

The lazy river and pool area are heated and good place to relax and warm up. 85-86 degrees.

Dolphin Lagoon is 80 degrees.

The grand reef water is cold, has to be for the fish. 76-77 degrees.
