Menus are changing!

No SAMOAN!!? Poached eggs over Kalua pork. It's unique and different. I can't believe they are offering loco moco instead.

Well, they have a new poached eggs - Poached Eggs with Citrus-Chili Hollandaise Sauce and Char Siu Pork Belly on Toasted Hawaiian Bread - I think that sounds awesome. They always had loco moco I thought.

I've had the loco mono at Kona and its pretty good. I thought it was actually a very good breakfast choice.

Well this sucks. I had my eyes on the big kahuna + tonga toast for our family to share.

Was just on the Disney site trying to look up menus to see if they'd work for my mom and every single restaurant I checked didn't have it's menu up--I got the Stitch, someone at the page shot. So, I suspect they're uploading all of the new menus presently. Seems like a broad range of restaurants, too; I must have typed in a dozen different ones. Is it just me?

Just did the same thing! We had our hearts set on some menu items for our trip this coming week, so hopefully those items are still on the menus! Although I am kind of excited to see what's been added...may even change my mind about the must have items!

For the past few years, there has also been another major menu shakedown in August. I've always suspected its in anticipation of Fall Free Dining. Particularly noticeable are the changes at 3rd party restaurants eg Tutto Italia removing some $ proteins like swordfish. Yet another reason to have a couple of entree possibles on any given menu. But I definitely sympathize with those lamenting the Kona menu changes. Never had the Samoan :sad1:

Cancelling our Kona lunch for July :( Before it was "moderately" priced lunch fare. I don't want a $34 steak for lunch.

ETA: we were really looking forward to trying the Polynesian lunch plates or the loco moco!
I booked lunch at Whispering Canyon: hopefully no big menu changes there!

How about a burger or open face turkey sandwich?

OT, but Free dining is so limited this year with the moderates getting only Quick Service that I can't see it having much impact on the restaurants.

I never read California Grill's menu at the time I'm making ADRs because I know it will be different when I'm there. We go in October, I'll look at their menu late September maybe.

We are doing The Wave for lunch - I don't know if it changed, or I just never noticed the corned beef sandwich! Sounds good.... :)

The Wave does change their menu a lot as well (for lunch and dinner). They have a lot of seasonal items that change by season. Even the items on the breakfast buffet have changed from time to time. All of the restaurants go through this, just wish they would be more subtle about it. Seems as of lately, many are dropping a lot of familiar items and replacing them all in one shot. Would be nice if they'd drop a few items at a time and add a few new ones.

Oh - I'm not much for breakfast, but bagels and lox are my FAVORITE, so Kona might be worth it for a late brunch after a couple of hours at MK, especially with mimosas, or a Lapu Lapu. Even the pork belly sounds yummy.

CG menu looks great to me!

There is another website I check out for menus that is always up to date and they haven't changed the menu listings for Kona yet. Although they probably just haven't adjusted them as of yet I can still hope that this is some kind of misprint or other for the moment.

Was at Kona Cafe yesterday morning and the server said it was the first day with the new menu. If I remember correctly there was no Big Kahuna.

Well Sci Fi's menu has me a bit confused. It says they still have steak but the description under it is for Mac and cheese.....

How does changing a menu save the restaurant money? Its different ingredients at different prices. That makes no sense?

If you purchase cheaper ingredients (cheaper cuts, more available items), it saves a ton of money. Macadamia nuts might be pricey right now, so it's an easy call to get rid of them for normal syrup and pancakes (normal fake maple syrup costs pennies)...

What do you mean? It's the same thing, pancakes with macadamia nut butter and pineapple syrup. Or did the pancakes had macadamias in them? Then yes, it's different.

But I guess, if the nuts are pricier right now, what's better? Keep the item and raise the price?

I don't know. It does stink when a favorite goes away though. :)

I would think prices would reflect a different product. Of course you're right about the non menu stuff being more flexible. I was more thinking replacing an octopus app for a tuna app - would depend on pricing and the margin would be the same.
