Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part V!

Ordering a cake for Hoop Dee Doo is the same as ordering for any restaurant at Walt Disney World. And, like at any WDW restaurant, occasionally the order gets misplaced or the server doesn't know about it. That's why I always recommend reconfirming the order about 3 days out, and to mention it to your server once you're there (in secret, if necessary).

Here are some Hoop Dee Doo cake-ordering experiences from the DIS:

Wow! Thanks so much for all the info! I wasn't sure if it would be different because it's a dinner show.

Okay I have read the page one post and have questions about two restaurants. DS will turn 10 on the Trip and Looking to eat Lunch at ESPN at the Boardwalk. Can I order a cake from Boardwalk bakery and have it delivered to ESPN or even pick it up and deliver it myself? Then two days later DD will be 16 we will be eating at Teppan Edo. I really want to do cute mini cakes for each of them. I see that Teppan Edo doesn't list mini cakes can I order one from one of the Epcot serviced restaurants and take it to Teppan Edo or do I have to just do a 6 in cake from them?

When you call the number listed in Post #2 for the BoardWalk, you can have the cake delivered *anywhere* at the BoardWalk: a room or a restaurant.

Teppan Edo is owned by an outside vendor, so Epcot-made cakes cannot be delivered there. The only option that vendor offers is supermarket-style all-chocolate or all-vanilla cakes shipped in by another outside vendor. People have not had great luck asking Disney to make cakes for delivery to a restaurant where they just want to pick up and don't have an actual reservation. But it's always worth asking! Alternatively, you could order and pick up a cake at BoardWalk Bakery and bring it into the park with you.

I was wondering if anyone has had a Star Wars themed celebration cake done, and if anyone has any pictures? My husband and I are going down in November for our 1 year wedding anniversary and his 30th birthday, and I wanted to get a special cake made, to be delivered to California Grill, that is Star Wars themed for his birthday but says happy anniversary for us :) Just trying to get some ideas and determine how detailed they can get. Also, any one have any suggestions on good cake/filling combos (what your favorite has been)? Thanks!
THis is a 6 inch vanilla/vanilla cake we got delivered to SSR on our last trip. They wouldn't do characters (at least the way I wanted), so this is a Yoda monitor sitter I bought and brought with me. The quote isn't exactly right for Yoda, but they weren't allowed to give me an email and it's harder to do Yoda quotes over the phone! It was $23 and delicious! (the slight damage on the side is from carrying it to our room from reception after surprising my dad)

Thanks for posting this. I wanted to do something similar to this. Especially with bringing in my own Star Wars souvenir to make it cheaper

I had been in talks with Chef Brian at Contemporary for a Star Wars cake. He was going to do a 6" with black fondant. The logo was going to be on the side with a 2d Vader on top, it would have been $75 I think. I decided to go in a different direction, but the Cake sounded cool!

On page 1 it says cakes can be ordered from Hollywood Studios. I haven't seen anything on the thread where one was delivered to 50s Prime Time, is that an option?

If the park or resort is listed in Post #2, that means you can get a cake at any of its table-service restaurants. People on this thread are usually looking for something more than Disney's standard, supermarket-style cake. Since Hollywood Studios doesn't offer anything but standard cakes, not many people post about DHS restaurants here, unfortunately. When you get yours, share it here and you'll be the first in Cake Chatter Part V! :teeth:

Hi

I just called to order a mini cake to be delivered to my room at POR. However the lady said they don't deliver it must be picked up from the resort bakery.

I also wanted to customise the flavour but she said this isnt possible. The options available are either vanilla or choc. Where can I order for a customised 2 tier mini cake? I saw someone posted a peanut butter flavour and a pink cake. I wanted red velvet

POR doesn't have a Private Dining team, so there's not really anyone to deliver the cake to your room. You should be able to pick it up at the food court or the table-service restaurant.

Many of us have been able to get BoardWalk Bakery to make us red velvet mini cakes, but usually it was through working with BWB directly. Unfortunately, when you are at another resort serviced by BWB, you have to go through that resort's food and beverage team to place your order and can't place the order with BWB directly. I would call POR back and see if you can get a different person OR speak to the same person and see if you can persuade her to either email BoardWalk Bakery's pastry chef directly with your request or give you that person's email address. Sometimes it helps if you say you've ordered a cake like this before from BWB.

Cake ordering always confuses me- and I've done it before! Am I correct in remembering that I can ask about cake flavor, filling flavor, AND frosting flavor, or are the filling and the exterior frosting the same thing/flavor? We have a reservation at California Grill for dinner on my 61st birthday and I think I want a cake, but I don't want a headache to go with the cake, so want to have my ducks in a row first. It's only DH and me (and not even a Disney trip, just an overnight in the area), so I cannot decide between a mini-cake and a 6" (I mean, there's nothing wrong with leftover cake for breakfast, right :teeth:). Will the Contemporary bakery consider choices other than chocolate/chocolate or vanilla/vanilla for cakes in these sizes? Do they have wedding cake/filling flavors similar to the GF bakery? I could change our reservation to Narcoossee's or Jiko/Sanaa if the bakeries there are any easier to work with, but I've heard great things about the Contemporary bakery team!

Thanks, that's helpful. Maybe I should try again

We have had all of our cakes through the Contemporary and have had a variety of cake and filling flavors to choose from. I did the 2 tier mini cake once, but prefer the 6 inch cake because you get more cake for your money, they have more options to choose from especially for decorating, and I must have leftovers, lol. They have been very easy to work with each time we've used them. GF does have all the flavors, but reports seem all over the place about how easy the ordering process has been and what flavors they are offered.

We just got back from a trip that included an actual birthday (DD turned 7) and a celebrated birthday (other DD will be 9) and I decided to do these small desserts rather than big cakes. For anyone wondering, they were both much better than expected! My youngest chose CP for her birthday dinner and I was a little worried about this honey cake. It was yummy and I'm a major cake (taste) snob. My oldest wanted BOG and she loved her special plate. I hope this helps!

I emailed Contemporary about making a 2-tier mini cake and have it delivered to our room at BLT for our 8-year wedding anniversary which will be during our June trip. I asked if I could send photos of our wedding cake, and they could recreate it, but make it "Disney-fied" pooh: I got an email back within 24 hours and they said they'd be more than happy to make it happen! I'll be calling to order it shortly!

Thanks for the all the awesome info on this thread!

We had this mini cake last week at Akershus. It was vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream. We were quoted $40 but charged $35. The picture does not do it justice. There was glitter all over the cake and it was absolutely adorable, not to mention delicious! We would definitely do this again!IMG_2331.JPG

Filling = mousse-like stuff they put between the cake layers
Frosting = buttercream outside the cake (under the fondant, if you get a fondant cake); you can also have them put it between the layers instead of the mousse filling

:thumbsup2

HOLY. CRAP.

This is so confusing! :scared::duck:

So I'd like to do something special for our anniversary trip and a cake sounds like a nice idea. I think I understand everything for the most part... planning on having the cake either while we eat at Rose & Crown or Trattorio al Forno. Both of which seem doable from everything I've read. I've got two questions though. So far. ;)

1) Is the mini cake REALLY for two? I mean... cake. Who doesn't love eating a ton of cake?
2) I didn't see anything in the first post re: cupcakes but have seen pictures of them later on in the thread. Are they ordered similarly to the minicakes

AND -- which would YOU prefer? Minicake or two cupcakes?

Yes. Believe me. I have a HUGE sweet tooth, and there's no way I can eat more than half a minicake in one sitting. It's a whole lotta frosting!

Cupcakes aren't a standard option, and people's ability to get them varies. I'd say you have a better chance at Trattoria al Forno, but it's worth calling both of the cake numbers listed to ask.

Minicake (see "whole lotta frosting," above :teeth: )
