Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE RESORT Information & Questions

Definitely! I understand all the reasons Disney wants white bedding. We just want to mourn the beautiful bedding of the past

Also. Did you know that beagles can be trained to sniff out bed bugs? Apparently Disney brings them in periodically for sweeps of hotels!

Yes, I've seen a working beagle before! It was at one of the All-Stars years ago, they had a little beagle on a lead walking to one of the rooms somewhere on property, and that was when I first learned about the beagles and that they can sniff out the bed bugs. Love that dogs have so many important jobs! Brilliant little noses...

So lucky. I want to run into one! Not to disturb their work, of course, just to see. Dogs really are such special creatures!

With regards to the posts about the white bedding/lack of theming, another way to reach guest services is via @WDWtoday on Twitter. That account is very responsive to tweets from guests & it's also public which means others can see it.

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to Twitter, but I know the basics & just tweeted them "What's the deal with the plain white bed linens at Port Orleans? Looks more like a hospital than a Disney resort!"

Just my 2 cents

Okay so I'll just fess up. Upon entering a hotel room i almost immediately dump the bolsters and runners or any kind of Duvet/Spread. Sometimes on the floor, in a corner, sometimes the other bed if we're not using it, or the floor in the closet if there is a closet. I do this everywhere not just Disney. Hate them. Mainly because they don't get washed and I figure there's other people like me who dump them but also because they are just in the way of the use of the bed. So I know I am among the few who like the stark look. For years this is how my beds at home looked as I used all white linens and covers.

As for the Beagles, I wonder if they scent out the bed bugs or the blood that is in their excrement. I know a lot of dogs are trained to sniff blood or decay so it would make sense if they were also used to find the little blood sucking creepy crawlies.

Has anyone seen the glow with flow pool party? Do I need to purchAse anything ahead of time? Glo sticks?

Know I'll get flamed for this but the biggest problem with the buses is that last week every bus had one or 2 scooters which take a long time to load/unload. I understand the need for some people and that some disabilities are not apparent. However I was on 6 buses with a woman who almost danced onto the bus and who I saw walking all over the resort with, seemingly, no issues. BTW kudos the man I saw with one leg on the crutches at AK the same day I had to wait 3 different times for this woman to get on a bus. I finally would get off at POFQ and walk over to POR and always beat my family by a good 10 minutes

Also after my 6th stay at this resort, it is still my favorite and had a great time there. Yes there will always be issues but you have them everywhere. Disney is not and never will be perfect. Sit back and enjoy the resort

Room Request

Is it better to go through Touring Plans and have them request a room for you or call and put in a building preference?

For Port Orleans, sending it in yourself works beautifully. I did it a couple years ago, and got exactly what I wanted!

Personally, I feel doing it yourself is better, as you can insert your personality into it. It gives the people something different to read.

Just placed a Safeway order to be delivered the night before I check in.
I'm going to go back in and see if I can change the delivery date in a couple of days but I had to order now because they had a special $20 off that expires today.

Just got back from a 6 night stay in a Royal Room. We were in Patarre Place in a garden view that faced the river.
The walk was pretty long. I think a half mile to both the east and south depot. The buses were not bad. Nothing to compare them to though since this was our only Disney trip. But we never waited more that 10 mins coming or going. Most of the time it was under 5 mins. Some days leaving the park the French Quarter bus would be faster for various reasons so we would take that and walk. It was .6 miles instead of .5 so not really much different. If we had a mug with us we would fill up there since they have freestyle machines with more (better) drink options.

The beds were plain but we didn't mind, the room was still really cute.
Good stay overall.

So, this is a question I had intended to ask a Disney reservations rep, but as the system seems to be down for the nonce, I thought I'd turn to some POR experts instead. :) Does anyone know if POR will allow a party of 4 to stay in a King Bed room (as in, one king bed with maybe a shorter pull-down bed as well) if 2 of the 4 are small children?

I ask because I'm looking into options for using a promo code for a fall trip with the size of my party (including ages of kids) plugged in, and the online system is listing a King Bed room as an option for our 2 adult/2 child group (that's half the price per night vs the cheapest two-bed room option). I think we could fit the two adults and one small child into a king bed for a few nights and put the other small child in the pull-down bed, but I don't want to discuss this as an option with the other adult in the party without knowing that it's a real possibility, not just a system glitch. (The unofficial Port Orleans site says sternly that there is a max of 3 people in a King Bed room.) Any thoughts?

We had very good luck sending the fax ourselves. Our son had a preferred room and we had a king room. I asked for us to be close together and they gave us what we asked for.

The room assignor at Por are great. Every time but once, I got my requests. One of the few, if only resort that reads faxes. I do both, have request noted on res, and fax request 5days before arrival.

If one of the children is under 3 years old then yes you can do it. But otherwise the maximum occupancy level for non-infants (i.e. persons aged 3+) in a King Bed room at POR is three people.
