Summer of Heroes - June 2017 Lifestyle/Weight loss Challenge

18th of June

Question of the day - what preparation have you done, or planning to do for next week?

I leave you to @piglet1979 with one of my favourite quotes

And a quote from Captain America.

I looked at MFP & Fitbit data since I came back from Orlando. It took me about 20 minutes and it was good

I have been working out more consistently and I think I have also gained some muscle - making the numbers little harder to read

I maintain my current weight by eating 2200 calories
I walk average 15000 steps a day
I workout 5 times weekly 20 minutes sessions

My lifestyle is pretty healthy! I enjoy treats in moderation and eating in small deficit allows for a splurge meals sometimes.

If I want to lose more weight, I can't hope to walk more - honestly this my best level of walking and exercising. It's what I need to maintain. I need to think about the food. May be cutting 200 will bring me little lower.

When I was actively losing weight I was eating between 1800 to 200 a day. Maintenance isn't really much different when you think of it.

This was sobering exercise as I feel I will be much happier 10 lbs down while eating about 700 calories more a day. Ok 500 will be fine too! Mismatch between how much I want to eat and how much I want to weight.

:)

I can't have both!

I left the quote from Captian America as sometimes when practicing your moderation people question why you aren't having cake, pizza, washed out with cocktails. If I decide I am going to have pizza, I will. I don't let myself being pressured anymore. I say no! It's my decision

More numbers current averages. At this level my weight remains same
450 cal Breakfast
540 cal Lunch
250 cal 4 pm snack
810 cal Dinner
200 cal post dinner snack
2250 total

Breakfast - I could try to cut it little
Lunch - not changing it. It's the right size.
Snack - I kind of like it

Night Time ...
Dinner & post dinner snack ... I kind of wonder how many nights I have 600 dinner and 400 calories pure snacking out of habit. I will monitor this over the next few months. I see room to improve to be honest.

OK - after vacation, between the two vacations I will try the following

Breakfast 250 to 350 calories.
Lunch & 4 pm snack 600 to 750 combined. Gives me the freedom to decide on big lunch and no snack
Dinner & post dinner snack 750 to 900 cal combined. Gives me the freedom to decide on big dinner and no snack or smaller dinner more snacks.

It could work! even at max it's still below the current average levels.

Well, I didn't do anything that I was planning to do yesterday

Pre cooking, shopping for food, shopping for our vacation, shopping for present for the little guy who will join us in LA! The weather was AMAZING and we went to the local beach for kite festival. I just couldn't face shops and food prep in such weather.

Meaning this week will be busy. But I did my shopping late last night (half of the things not in the shop!). I will workout from home to cut time and get my vacation planning done and the local fruit and veggies store keeps my supply of tasty produce easily accessible

I will be at DISNEYLAND next Monday! This is incredible.

Question of the day - how many veggies and fruits you eat in a day?

I don't always get them every day. Fruit - hardy ever really - although I did have a banana today :woohoo: - Veggies I quite like when I have them. I just need more consistency.

Question of the day - what preparation have you done, or planning to do for next week?

I have some chicken soup and a tomato and roasted capsicum soup in the freezer still - so that will get be started for work lunches. I haven't planned much else yet. Weekend was busy - which didn't lend itself to planning.

Great quotes. Thank you so much for being host for most of this month - you have posed some really though provoking questions to help motivate us this month to do our best :thanks: :D

We had beautiful weather here also - in the day time it was hard to believe it is winter! Things were busy on my end - Friday was a holiday for the local show - or what some of you might call county fair. DS16 had been out the night before to his year 11 big night out - a bus trip to Brisbane and a boat trip on the river for a few hours with dancing, soft-drink and finger foods - by the time they all got back we didn't get to bed till midnight. I helped the twins go through their wardrobes and cull clothes - DS16 comes in and says he had mucked up his shift times oops meaning he didn't get to work that day. Then Saturday they asked him to work 2 split shifts 6-9am then 6-9pm - I think it was kind of consequence of the Friday mix up - or maybe they just needed extra help lol. In between that he had a hockey game at 1pm. Sunday DS had 12-3pm shift - lots of washing happened over the weekend - then we went to the movies Sat afternoon. Friday night I think it was I had an imposed family movie night - the kids have been busy studying most nights for exams and assignments for end of term - we watched the Thor movies - so keeping with the theme for the month lol - I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to seeing the new movie at the end of the year - almost as much as I am looking forward to seeing Cars 3 over the school holidays (which starts this Friday).

@HappyGrape - Bon Voyage - I hope you have the most wonderful time in DL and exploring Southern California - so much to see and do. Can't wait to hear all about it.

Question of the day - how many veggies and fruits you eat in a day?

I figured at least one of my questions should be food related! Have a wonderful weekend

I LOVE fruits! I enjoy veggies as well but I definitely prefer fruit. Between both I usually have 1-2 servings for breakfast, 2-3 for lunch, 2-3 for dinner, and 2-3 as snacks throughout the day. It helps that raw fruits and veggies (except a few) are all 0 WW points!

I did my normal meal prep for lunches for my DH and I- this week was garlic ranch pork chops with roasted potatoes, asparagus, and green beans. I also made sure I had plenty of fruit available for my breakfast smoothies, and lots of quick healthy dinner foods to eat before rehearsal. Now I don't have to worry about making sure that I eat well- I'm already prepped to do it! It makes my Sundays pretty stressful between going to church, getting groceries, doing all the meal prep, then doing a 5 hour rehearsal but it makes the rest of the week so much easier.

Good Morning or afternoon depending on where you are at. Since it is Monday morning here I am just going to use a picture of Thor to help us get through the day.

Question of the day -- How did your weekend go? Did you stick with your plan and on track?

Also, post your results for the week and I will post the list tomorrow morning.

Yesterdays QOTD -- We did some planing for the week but not much. it is another busy week with 2 baseball games (both at 6pm), 2 PT appointments, and a 3 hour allergy test for amoxicillin. We are going to try and eat at home everyday and have but some quick dinner items on the list for the week. Thursday will be the tough day. This is the day for the allergy test for my daughter. She is already freaking out about it so I am sure I will have to bribe her. She also can't eat for 2 hours before the test. The last time she can eat is at 10:30. The test is at one so she may not get to eat until after 4pm. She will be starving and we live about 45 minutes away. I will most likely just stop and get her something quickly. She does not handle being hungry very well. This is when she has the majority of her melt downs.

Today's Question -- I did not do well at all. I had to work Saturday and then took a nap when I got home. After that I met up with my daughter friend and her mom for some ice cream. Yesterday we were all kind of lazy in the morning. We finally got going at about 1 and took my husband to lunch for Father's day. After lunch we were going to go grocery shopping and then head over to my mom and step-dad's. Well after we had lunch I ended up sick. So we stayed home and I laid in bed. I am still not feeling great and I am not really sure what is making me feel sick. I was fine before lunch and if it was food poisoning I am sure I would have more then just not feeling good. Hopefully by the end of the day I will start to feel better.

QOTD: not enough. I love fruit and there are enough veggies that I don't hate that I could certainly get enough of both, but somehow neither get consumed up to the recommended levels.

Well it turned in to a do-nothing weekend. Saturday I got out of the house for lunch, then felt pretty cruddy during the afternoon and did nothing else: Sunday I got out for an impromptu haircut and lunch, then barely moved the rest of the afternoon. In the evening I rallied a bit and did get some chores done. I completed the saliva test Friday, then when I was packaging it up to ship I read the directions (I was going off of what the doctor had told me... my bad) and I didn't exactly do it right so I'm not sure how useful it is going to be... fingers crossed it will help to solve the problem of complete lack of energy. It's pretty difficult to lose weight when you aren't burning thru calories because all you do is sleep.

The hair salon I've been going to is actually very conservative/corporate: last time I was in I mentioned to the gal doing my hair that I wanted to undercut the back when it got a bit longer and I could tell by her reaction that I wasn't going to have success convincing her to do it. So Saturday I went back to the hip and trendy neighborhood place that specializes in buzz cuts etc, and boy am I glad I did - I love the feel of not having hair on my neck. And it's strange that she shaved about two inches up from the hair line, but my hair in back feels as thick, if not thicker, than before.

I got signed up for one of the prepared meal delivery services that my doctor recommended - the first delivery will be Thursday. I also signed up for a thing tomorrow night at the yoga studio, which is a solstice celebration featuring someone who does healing using Tibetan bowls... I think it should be interesting. Today I will get an appointment booked with the nutritionist, so I can mark that June goal as done.

Happy Monday everyone... let's make it a healthful one.

QOTD:

My weekend went well, aside from drinking two glasses of Coke that I shouldn't have.
My husband and I went out to eat on Friday and I had glazed chicken breast, brown rice, steamed broccoli, and mashed potatoes. I could have done without the mashed potatoes, I know, but they were really tasty and I did have water with lemon instead of coke.

I ate ok on Saturday. Stayed within my budgeted calories and I walked on the treadmill.
Sunday I made homemade veggie soup for dinner (broccoli, cabbage, carrots, a small amount of cubed potatoes, shallots, and garlic in beef broth/tomato sauce, and herbs) which is very filling to me and healthy. I did not walk on Sunday, but I did do some gardening.

My Goal
My goal was to walk on treadmill 7/7 days and I did 5/7. I'm going to keep the same goal this week and hopefully will meet it.

Thank you!

I didn't answer the Fruit-Veggie QOTD, so here's my answer:

I have a serving or two of fruit every morning for breakfast. I sometimes eat it also during the day, but not too often.

Veggies: I try to have two for lunch and 2 to 3 servings for dinner. Sometimes I'll have for a snack, too.

@piglet1979 Hope you feel better soon!

Ok time to catch up!

Question of the day - how many veggies and fruits you eat in a day?

Not enough-- though this is getting better. Veggies - at least one serving at lunch and dinner. Sometimes more. Loving the summer fruit right now. It's my go to dessert after dinner! Sometimes even breakfast.

Question of the day - what preparation have you done, or planning to do for next week?

None... I was supposed to yesterday, but ended up taking a nap instead Haha! I will tonight. Yesterday, I did go get a indoor grill though. I am tired of oven roasted meat all the time, AND it takes forever! So, in the interest of upping my protein and having faster healthier meals, I got this to help make healthy dinners a little easier. So that kinda counts as prep right?!

Question of the day -- How did your weekend go? Did you stick with your plan and on track?

From a consumption stand point -- off the rails! We had a game night at my cousin's on Saturday and I had dessert(S)... no cocktails though. But I did hit the rice crispy treats and key lime pie pretttty hard. I thought this was going to be a disaster for the scale but so far, it's coming down. I mean it may certainly catch up with me later. And then I ate well, but a lot in quantity, at the inlaw's yesterday. (I may have had a pound of asparagus haha!) Then came home and had a snack as well. I was so hungry! AND still the scale was down this morning. I am starting to wonder if I've been a little too focused on the food and deprivation... I am wondering if maybe I am not eating enough. I'm going to monitor that for the next week. Since I've not been losing anyway, I don't mind upping my intake and see if that actually helps.

Anyway, the gym is going well -- they will be holding a nutrition seminar next month that I signed up for. That will definitely help me out!

Progress to goal: 10/12 classes -- 83%

(I may have had a pound of asparagus haha!)
I could do this. We get 2 bunches when we have them and it is really only my husband and I that eat them. It is like candy to me. We only put some olive oil and kosher salt on them and bake them. Nothing special. I feel like I have missed out on eat these since I refused to even try them until a few years ago.

How did I do this weekend - so/so. I am eating at maintenance, I can't expect any weight loss eating like this. I went over one day and under one day. I am not happy with the number of days I went over this month to be honest, although it seem to be evening out nicely

I am suffering from bad PMS and flight/big trip anxiety and can't sleep at all but there are only more 4 days and I will be fine once I board the plane. I am ok on the flight but when there is long haul ahead of me the trip is stressing me out

sorry you aren't feeling well @piglet1979. Hope today you feel better

It makes my Sundays pretty stressful between going to church, getting groceries, doing all the meal prep, then doing a 5 hour rehearsal but it makes the rest of the week so much easier.

sounds hectic - but yes it does make the week easier - when I did a but meal prep a week ago - I ended up with a sore neck/shoulder later that afternoon- and I mean really sore muscle pain - my DD laughingly told me it was from all the chopping and cooking I did in the morning! cheeky girl.

How did your weekend go? Did you stick with your plan and on track?

I am trying to remember the weekend - things are such a big blur at the moment - but I am going to go with off track - I seem to remember some junky snack eating!

I am still not feeling great and I am not really sure what is making me feel sick. I was fine before lunch and if it was food poisoning I am sure I would have more then just not feeling good. Hopefully by the end of the day I will start to feel better.

Good luck - anything to get her (and you) through that big day I say!

I love asparagus! I prefer them peeled, though, which takes a while to prepare. But, oh my gosh, they are delicious!

I know what you mean. I feel like this month is flying by. We have had way too much going on. I am hoping July is better

You can peel asparagus??? I didn't know that. I might have to look into that.

June 20th

Below are a few pictures from the filming of Captain America Winter Soldier. They taped a few scenes in the building I work in. The 2 pictures are from the escalator scene where Captain America kisses Scarlett Johansons Character. They did this one scene for about 2 hours. It was just going down the escalator. The other shot is of Chris Evans and Scarlett Johanson waiting to start the scene again. I tried to figure out how to upload a video of the scene but I couldn't.

Today's Question -- I am sure that doing this one scene over and over again gets tiresome and boring for the actors. For us doing the same thing can also be boring and then sometimes it makes it hard to get the motivation to work out. What are some ways that you combat this? Do you change up your routine or just fight through it?

How did your weekend go? Did you stick with your plan and on track?
My weekend went well. I have stuck to no added sugar and am in the process of adding foods back into my diet. Fruit has never tasted so sweet! I'm down 8lbs which is amazing to me. I think that just goes to show just how much added sugar I was consuming.

Today is going to be a test since it is DD4's bday and I am making the cake. Plus she asked for Chinese food. I think I am going to make my own dinner before they eat so I won't be so tempted to pick.

What are some ways that you combat this? Do you change up your routine or just fight through it?

This is something I struggle with. I love doing new things but with a healthy style I feel like routine is the best way to go. Usually I try to make a goal that I can't back out of (hello expensive runDisney races) and then fight through it. With running usually a new and interesting podcast helps get me out the door.
