Christmas party or Halloween party? Which would you choose?

We have never been to either and are looking at going for one or the other either this year or next. We just bought DVC and will have enough points to add on an additional trip for a party. We love both holidays at our house but we weren't sure what the parties were like or if one was better than the other. We typically only travel in summer so these parties have never been on our radar before.

I vote Halloween party! If you go in September, you get the benefit of lower crowds and you can enjoy the early days of Food and Wine Festival. The Christmas party is great too -- especially if you also go to Candlelight Processional at Epcot during the trip. But of the two, the theming, fireworks, parade and trick-or-treating are just spectacular at the Halloween party.

And welcome to DVC! We've been members since 1996 -- smartest investment we ever made. Check into the DVC annual passes -- they're a great deal. Then you can go at Halloween and Christmas --that's what we do every year. :-)

I'm not a Halloween person at all, but MNSSHP is my hands-down favorite ticketed event at WDW. I love the theming, the music, Boo To You, HalloWishes, everything about it except for dressing up [I don't, but I like to admire the costumes on others!]. I made the mistake in 2014 of pushing our fall trip back to late November/early December and taking everyone to MVMCP. I liked it, they loved it, and now we go in early December and to at least two parties because the family is obsessed. *sigh* I told them that fall 2018 will be booked for October so I can go to MNSSHP. They weren't too thrilled, but hey, I pay the bill for 98% of our WDW vacations so I like to think that I get a say too!

Thanks for the info! I'm sure in the coming years we will hit whichever one we skip for now. I'm so excited to be part of DVC. I am hoping our closing paperwork comes quickly, that will determine of we get to a party this year as things are booking up. I am thinking we will get the ap with the discount. It's not a bad deal!

MNSSHP :thumbsup2

Why?

The Christmas Party's biggest perk is the parade, otherwise the park looks the exactly the same as any other night. Yes they give free cookies and drink but they are nothing special - we found ourselves a one and done. Any other "specials" like characters, special Wishes etc are available at MNSSHP. Oh and snow on Main Street which makes it the best place to watch the parade ... so crowded.

MNSSHP, the use lots of lighting, smoke and music to change the entire atmosphere of the park. It feels completely different and colors on the Castle make it look spooky and different. Excellent parade, Hocus Pocus show on the castle stage. The special guest in front of the Haunted Mansion, the special ghost PhotoPass shots. Lots of guests in costume and trick or treating makes it feel like a real party.
