Permit Filed: "Project S" at Epcot

Although, that means we are stuck with Spaceship Earth for naps once Ellen's closes:rolleyes: The line at Spaceship Earth isn't great for a quick nap when it's really long.

That's true, it is a good place to rest my dogs. Thankfully the American Adventure and Impressions of France are still open as well. Both are good places to take your sneakers off and make yourself at home like Al Bundy.

On Jim Hill's new podcast they are calling it "The Spine". I have no clue what it means, but I'm going to search Google and overanalyze it at least until D23.

I have seen mentions of the Spine project which would be improvements down the center of the park from the turnstiles to world showcase include Innoventions/Commincore areas. I don't believe the spine includes UOE.

The Spine refers to the main walkway between the park entrance and World Showcase Lagoon. This includes; Leave a Legacy (the big memorial stone things at the front of the park), fountain area including the old Communicore (Starbucks, Mouse Gear, Innoventions, Electric Umbrella etc.) and the walkway between fountain stage and World Showcase.

Ohhhh, my bad. So Space is still a viable option.

I don't know why they have to give such a cryptic name for the entrance and walkways, etc. Wouldn't it be more clear if they said what it is? I'm sure Universal isn't looking through the bushes, wondering what they are doing with the goofy faces monument.

The code names are not meant for us - they are there for Imagineering and other departments internally. It just turns out that due to the internet, the permits they file are so much easier to get hold of, so we all get to see whats going on! Every WDI project has a code name (Star Wars construction is "Project Atlantis" whilst the two rides in Star Wars Land are "Alcatraz" and "Big Bird".)

The last rumor I read in attractions magazine was UOE was going to be replaced with Tron coaster. That would be Great!!!

I welcome EPCOT changes with open arms. There's not enough attractions in the first place and the whole "educational" feelings are long gone.
Yes yes yes!!!!

My DH found EPCOT World Showcase very peculiar. All he would elaborate was, "I lived in most of these countries... this isn't their culture... this is kitschy "what-Americans-without-passports-think-Europe-is-like." I was like,"fair point. Nobody prepares Kazakhstani food like the Kazakhstani people. well, yeah, let's NOT visit the Canada pavilion then... " We DID enjoy the Japan area though, as we haven't been able to visit in person. SO MUCH SHOPPING.

I knew Ellen's Energy was outdated and painful with no exit, so we didn't even walk over there. Okay, truth be told, if I went anywhere near the former World of Life pavilion, I was going to howl and cry like a professional Egyptian mourner. MY 2ND FAV PLACE and they've killed it too.... oh Figment...

So yeah PLEASE make EPCOT fun and wonderful again - do not let me see the attractions falling apart!!! Anymore than they already are....

Good lord in heaven please NO guardians of the galaxy at epcot....for one its supposed to be an educational/scientific/futuristic area and not fairytale esque...
um... Character Spot anyone? How long has that been enshrined in EPCOT? As others have said, the opening day mission for EPCOT, which had very little or nothing to do with Walt's actual mission, is long gone.

Spine is the walkway that leads from gate opening in FW to start of WS. There have been alot of rumors flying that this was going to get redone, along with Innovations.

I agree with all of what you say except about the countries. They're not supposed to be a total 100% reflection of what it is like but sort of the kitschy kinda feel you're referring to. Otherwise we'd have busy city streets in England, France, Germany, Japan and America and lots of smog in china

I agree with you 100%, I miss the original Epcot. Its been really sad to watch it slowly die like the family dog. Epcot hasn't been the same since "World of Motions" closed in 1996. Since then little by little the park has lost itself completely. Its heart was finally ripped out its chest in 1999 by Michael Eisner, when they closed "Horizons".

On their graves they built a race car track and a flight simulator which provides more vomit than fun. It makes you really wonder. Why does Disney have to take away classic attractions, when they've got plenty of space?

When you add new attractions you add maintenance and manpower costs. When you replace, you might come out even or possibly ahead as you remove worn out attractions for new. You get a boost any time you open a new ride, even if it replaces an old one, so it is cheaper not to keep adding capacity. For an example, see FEA. Uggh. This is part of the capacity problem WDW has created in the last 20+ years that LOL is constantly harping about.

They should just add robots then. It saves money and it goes with the theme. They just got to make sure it doesn't start killing the guests ala Westworld. Only some of the guests going to the parks are horrible people.

Like the people who show up for parades late and expect a front spot. Sure send a Terminator bouncer after them.

Let it go man, that puppy is dead and it's not coming back from the grave. Futureworld is soon going to be IP World. All we can do is except it now.

To be honest, you CAN have the character spots in EPCOT but are you going to start changing over things in a park that its not meant for? For example, if you want characters, go to Magic Kingdom, characer spots etc.
Bring it into EPCOT, we have test track, universe of energy, living with the land, soaring, all have zero character interaction side from maybe a character or two from their respective countries which is a "disney touch"
IMO EPCOT is supposed to be something different from the Magic Kingdom, MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom. Innoventions is supposed to be showing technology of the future (like to see that come back TBH). Living with the land shows how to farm in the future (or it did at least).
The next argument I'd say is "What about Norway and Frozen?" well didnt the actual country of Norway no longer want a hand in a disney park? to that extent? So whats disney to do but plop something from the franchise. I'm being long winded but bare with me I'm almost done.
Future world needs to become what it was intended to do (from watching the vacation planning videos of the 90s). Innoventions needs to be overhauled and the idea needs to still be there of introducing people to the new technologies of tomorrow but be constantly revamped as the future progresses. I'd add some ideas but I'll let the imagineers take over on that part ;)
Yes the cute doggy I loved from my childhood is old, tired, and worn out, but nothing says we cant take what we used to have and revamp it and make it to what it used to be (or the idea at least)
