August 2017 Disneyland Check-In & Chat!

Washing Disney PJs and shirts for the trip! (I have those as surprises when we arrive-but well, I always do it, so not so much a surprise) Still lips have been sealed. Hopefully we can pull the surprise off!
I'm so impressed that you've manage to keep the surprise secret! That is so difficult! You all will have so much fun. Can't wait to hear how they enjoy the surprise! :jumping1:

i wish disney would send me a 40% off code, we have been APs for years but no offers.......i thought it had to do with being in BC but if you got one then i guess not!
Best offer I can find for grand is $322 per night during the week!

This is our 12th Disney trip since 2011 (11 DL and 1 WDW), this is our 3rd time with APs and this is my first DL pin code. I've had two for wdw but we have not been able to take advantage of one yet. I did have to move our dates around a by to take advantage of this pin since it is only valid Sunday-Thursday and we had originally planned Friday-Tuesday but for such a good rate, I was willing to change dates!

Have you gone during Dapper Days? They are a lot of fun and the rates are really great!

Hi there! We are a little over two weeks away from checking into our hotel and I can't wait! Need some help figuring out how to use our 3 day PHs. Should we do Sun-Tues or Mon-Wed? Our flight home doesn't leave until 4pm Wed so we would have at least half the day to enjoy the park before heading for the airport. We most likely won't be able to do RD on Sunday since we will be attending a wedding the night before in Huntington Beach and will be a while to check out of the hotel there. Any thoughts?

Not quite as close as some but we leave in exactly one month today!

We are actually on our way home from a 2 week trip to Ontario visit family so the thought of packing again in a month's time is not very appealing. First world problems, I know!

This is our 11th DL trip as a family (DH and I spent our honeymoon there in 1999) and we had actually decided to take a break after our April trip this year. After we found out that one of DS's summer camps in August was canceled, DH out of nowhere said that we should take a few days and head down south! I am not one to disagree with my husband when he suggests that we go to Disney so I jumped right onto planning! We were going to stay at the Grand Legacy but before I could book it, Disneyland sent me a 40% off code that we were not going to pass up! GCH for $286/night is a great price.

We are from Victoria, BC and I was looking at flying out of Seattle but found semi-decently prices flights from Victoria. Even though we have to get up REEEEAAALLY early, we land at SNA at 10:30 am so we will have 3.5 days at the parks.

Hey fellow islander! We're just up island in the Cowichan area :) I booked our flights out of Victoria way back in January when prices dropped to $270.. couldn't resist that combined with the park ticket deal for Canadians at the time.

We fly out on Aug 26.. we'll be in the parks Aug 27-30. CANNOT WAIT!!! :goofy:

Anyone been in August before? We are coming from Philly, trying to get a gauge on weather? Will we need jackets while we are there?

Possibly a light jacket after dark. Next week lows are in the high 60s and low 70s.

4 days! The family chatter on the texting channel is reaching fever pitch! All is set for renewal of Vows on Wednesday.

Aww!! We will be there!! Congrats! Are you doing the vows at Disney? We are celebrating our 25th while there, we'll look for you guys!! On Wednesday, we'll have all black shirts on with different white Disney sayings in white...3 tall kids and me an Dad :)

I am trying hard to put a surprise in our room when we arrive...do any of you recommend any gift basket places? The Disney sponsored one is outrageous!! $450 for items that cost about $60-tops! UGH!! We surprised our kids one year, we told them we had to drive to airport (2 hours away) to pick up their 'aunt' (a close friend that is like an aunt to them), we hid their luggage in the back of our minivan the night before and put a blanket over it, when we arrived at the airport (this was the 2nd day flights opened up for travel again, our original flight was 9/12-day after 9/11) security was crazy!! I wrote on my tickets to the lady checking them that it's a surprise the kids think we're picking up an aunt...so she played it up and asked about their aunt. They were too young to know you couldn't get to the gates without a ticket. So, while I took the kids to get some breakfast and wait on 'aunt', dh checked in all our bags and he snuck to the gate and hid their backpacks under some chairs. Each had a backpack with fun stuff.
The gate next to ours had a flight arriving from Atlanta (where my friend lived) so we sat there...when the flight to Orlando called to board, we said "hmmm...why don't we just try to get on it?" They thought we were crazy! They were so upset that we were leaving our aunt alone/behind. Then they realized what was going on and we filmed all their reactions at the gate...it was priceless...they were still so concerned about 'aunt' because we had never willingly told a lie to them. (besides Santa/Easter Bunny, sigh) But, it was the best vacation! You MUST film their reactions!! :) So excited for you!!

I think it depends on how late you'll be arriving on Sunday, how likely you are to be there early and how late you normally stay. Since the parks are less crowded in the mornings, giving up a morning is not something I'd normally do, so I'd lean towards Monday-Wednesday. However, if you'll be there fairly close to rope drop, Sundays are usually a pretty good day to be at DL, and if you stay at the parks until closing when it closes at midnight, that's almost as good as being there at rope drop (but not quite).

We've always gone in August. When are you going? Generally I bring a light cardigan. I can wear that in restaurants at night when I may be chillier. Outside it has been plenty hot.

How fun! The Disney one is too pricey for my tastes. I always put stuff in a carry on that I collect then run up to the room and place it on the beds while my husband entertains the kids. I always have a disney shirt and PJs, then it depends. This time I have that and Disney themed water bottles, a cars memory puzzle and some coloring books.

---
We leave Tuesday. Pulled an all nighter last night NOT getting ready but in the ER with my 8 year old. He just has a stomach virus but was complaining of intense stomach pain which was tender to the touch. Well, until we got to the ER. Now, hoping the rest of the family doesn't get it, or if we do it is over very quickly. We will see...(my plan was to get a good night's sleep last night then jump into laundry/packing etc) Best laid plans...
