Neighbors.....are you kidding me??

Well, we live last house on a dead end street but there is a house across the street, but not directly across from us. The man that lives there doesn't work, I think he may have some kind of disability and there is a younger maybe high school age boy and at least one or more young men. Haven't seen any women. At all times they have at least 3 nice/shiny/new SUV's parked in the driveway and sometimes one parked in the grass close to the house that is not visible unless you are like at the far side of my house. Anyway, they are quiet, never bother us except that one man is always outside no matter what time I leave my driveway and my daughter has mentioned it too when she leaves for work and he just stares. Sometimes he is in the driveway, sometimes beside the house and sometimes on their little porch. Minding his own business but really creeps us out. I used to notice when they first moved in and when I back out of my driveway and start to pull forward I could always see someone at one of their upstairs windows looking out. Just creepy.

My nextdoor neighbor has a trampoline right at their property line which is next to our property line. Technically it's supposed to be behind their house not visible from the street (and it currently is visible from the street) but it's not worth it to us to call the HOA on them. It's been there since before our house was built.

Anywho our great room (aka family room) has 4 windows (2 are crank out) and that happens to be really close to the trampoline. Unfortunately when the kids are jumping on it it makes a very annoying noise. Not to mention every now and then the girls will sit on the trampoline and play music--too loud as well where I have to crank the volume up on the TV loud so it drowns out the music. Those neighbors are also the most active people I've ever met. They are constantly coming and going (they have 4 kids) and that's not the annoying part it's the constant closing of the car doors.

They are good nice people so we really try to not let it get to us.

OMG My neighbors in the back of me put up a trampoline too right up again the back fence- when the kids jump on it we have no privacy at all if we are out in the yard- they come right uver the top of the 6 foot privacy fence- and its a girl that lives there so when her friends are over on the trampoline the noise level is insane. Where I had my hot tub was directly across from the trampoline so I had no privacy at all when I was in it- When it was time to change the water I moved it to the other corner of my yard so at least there was a little privacy.

The only thing that really bothers me about one neighbor, who is right next to us, is that he doesn't mow the lawn all summer and grass and weeds are up to the windows. It looks like crap. He used to mow, but stopped a couple of years ago. He rents and doesn't feel it's his responsibility.

In our town you just call the town and if it is over 8 inches they come themselves and cut it and add the fee to the persons property tax bill. I had them clean up my neighbors entire year- the town was there for 6 hours with 4 guys cleaning it up! They had walked away from the house and just left it and I got tired of looking at it. I actually paid my landscaper to cut their front lawn every other week and trim their hedges that were between our houses because it made me insane living next to that! Someone bought it and flipped it and now we have great neighbors there- neighbors on the other side are great too and so are the three across the street- there was one a few houses down that was a lunatic, whole family was trash and the son dealt drugs out of the house but yesterday a moving van was there and they moved!!

We're not allowed to have privacy fences in our neighborhood. They have to be the black metal ones that afford no privacy sadly. And of course they would put that trampoline right by your hot tub!

That must be annoying though to have a privacy fence and then see people over the top of it like you have it. Yes the noise is just annoying. And for whatever reason the girls like to go on it during light rain or after it has just rained...it's a weird sound but it's still very annoying.

Here's what our situation looks like. The greenery you see right in front of the trampoline (i.e. the tree and the bush) are technically on our property line. Those 3 windows you see are actually our kitchenette bumpout-to the right of those windows is our great room windows. I took this pic just after we moved in:

This is the only pic I really have that I can find of where the great room windows are. It's from when the house was being built. Those 3 windows again are the kitchenette bumpout and the 4 windows are where the great room is--which is fairly close to the tampoline:

My neighbors always complain about the lack of street parking. They all have 2 or 3 cars per house. If you got rid of your cars our neighborhood really wouldn't have a parking problem. Do you really need more than 1 car per house?

Wow that stinks- there is no barrier at all between you and the trampoline! For some reason the people behind me have everything against the back fence- they build a patio with a gazebo right against the back fence too and they also put in a swing next to the back fence- it is very odd. Most people here have like a deck or patio right behind their house, not again the back fence.

No need to worry about that in Seattle. We haven't had a drop of rain in 2 months and every lawn is just dead and dusty. No grass growing at all. No one dares water their grass here either. I am slowly removing mine and just putting in drought tolerant plants. Grass is a waste of space.

In some cases, yes. If everyone works a different schedule (as they do in my house), in different locations one car isn't going to do any good. Public transportation in CA isn't the greatest.

?? I don't know ANYONE that only has one car per house- most have at least one car per person, some more than one.

There is no place to park cars here. No one has garages or driveways where you can park cars. On street is the only place to park them. When the subway station they are building a few blocks away from our house opens in 2020 the parking will get even more scarce.

That's strange..wonder if they are trying for privacy or something by putting it in the back...but then again it's right up against your property. Yeah patios are connected to your house basically at least most are around here.

How many people live in that house?

How many people live in that house?

Most of them average about 4. This is a typical street in our neighborhood. They are tearing down many of the single family houses and building 6 story apartment buildings with 300 to 400 units. Some of them have parking and some do not. The on street parking is disappearing fast.

That giant tower crane in the background is for the subway station they are building.

Okay, now I'm confused. I thought no cars, subway, she must live in NYC. In Seattle, people drive unless they happen to live on a bus route. I'm guessing Lite rail is coming your way?

Seattle is turning into NYC. The housing prices are going through the roof. They are buying up all of the single family houses near the subway stations and building apartments. I can't believe how much they are paying....

$4 million for a 1,500 square foot house????

Ah ok. If you never ever ever travelled outside of places that you could just use public transportation that *may* be more reasonable of a request for a house full of 4 individuals to use 1 car but in general that's not usually feasible.

My husband's uncle used to work for NYC Broadway and he didn't have a car for quite a while. He lived in West New York, New Jersey and just took transit everyday into the city for work but eventually he got a car (though he parking spot in his apartment building cost a decent amount as space was limited).

But I do hear you in that street parking...it can create all sorts of messes.

Of course the house isn't worth much but the land is worth about $40 million dollars an acre.
