I missed the SW 60k offer

If you Call the customer service number on the back of the card, on of the automated options will give you your next statement close date. You dont even need to speak to a rep. I just cant remember what option it was. :scratchin
So I called the number and I received a 'next statement date.' Is that the same as a closing date? The next statement date is Oct 11 and the payment date is Nov 8. Does that sound right? The other card has a statement date of Oct 25 and a payment date of Nov 22. Do I need to request a change to anything or are those dates ok for the CP? I'm confused now when the 3 month period actually begins and why the 2 cards have such different dates.

I SM'd Chase about both of dh's cards. The information I received is this:
Card 1 (Premier) Card 2 (Plus)
Min spend date: Jan 19 Jan 19
Closing date: 11th of each month 25th of each month

They also confirmed the 60,000 bonus points for each.

So now I need to know when I spend the final $500 (remainder of the $2000 requirement) on each so that I get the bonus but make sure the final amount posts in January. Is the above set up ok? Do I need to change any closing dates? Thank you.

@DizMe, you're in great shape! You'll have from the 11th and the 25th of December until Jan 19 to make your spend. In reality, you'll want to time your last $500 or so around last week of December or the first couple days of Jan to make your final spend. This will allow time for the transaction to post prior to the 11th closing date for one card and the 25th on the other. The 60k will hit after the 11th for that first card. Although you're fine as is, if it were me, I'd SM and ask to have closing date of 25th card moved to the 11th to mirror the first. Just ensure you make your final transaction around end of December or very early Jan.

Thank you! But one question: don't you have to make sure you spend all of the money in the 2017 calendar year?

Oops, another question: When you say to move the closing date of the 25th to the 11th, what is the advantage?

don't you have to make sure you spend all of the money in the 2017 calendar year?

No. Technically you need to spend your last dollar of the min spend prior to Jan 19th in your case, the key being, that the bonus points hit your RR account in 2018 to maximize the value of the CP. So in order to do this, you need to make sure you don't make your min spend until after your December statement closes (11th and 25th) and before your MSR date of Jan 19th. Out of an abundance of caution and because there is a ridiculous data point out there where Chase allegedly awarded the bonus points early, I'm advising that you try to time meeting your min spend sometime toward the end of December or very early January so that your transactions will post and provide enough time for Chase to award the bonus prior to your Jan 11th closing date but not early enough in case Chase decides to award your bonus early (I find highly unlikely that will happen, but just being cautious).Whatever you do, don't hit the Min spend until after your December closing dates for each card.

The advantage is that you'll have all 120K points and the CP on the 12th (a day after your statement closes) versus waiting for 60K until the 25th. This also makes things easier in that both cards close at the same time. Technically, if you don't have any flights planned for Jan/Feb, than you can leave your closing dates the way they are. Just make sure to hit the min spend prior to Jan 19 on that card that closes on the 25th. I hope I've explained it clearly.

No, the spending doesn't have to be done all in one year. The spending has to be done in the timeframe that Chase states, in your case by January 19. It is the points that all gave to post in the same year. That's why you are waiting til after your December statement, so all 120,000 points post to your RR account in the same year.

The only advantage to moving your closing date up is you will get the points posted sooner & get the companion pass sooner too.

Personally, my latest closing date will be the 24th. While I would like the CP as soon as possible, I think I am going to leave the date alone. Just works better with other bills we have , like car payments etc. I like having bills spaced out throughout the month.

I feel so stupid. I thought it was 110,000 points?

It is 110k points for CP. The 120k was probably just used since that was the current reward bonus (60k for each card) that was applied for. The main point is you want both bonuses to post for 2018 so you earn CP without really doing anything special.

Ok, thanks. I suddenly thought I had to spend another $10,000 and my heart sank... :D

I need to return an item to Amazon that I bought to get to my SW $2000 spend. Will I still get my reward points?

Are you trying to meet your spend this year or next? The return will reduce the amount you spent, if your statement hasn’t closed for the bonus to post. You can either hold off on the return until the bonus posts or you’ll need to spend x more (whatever the return amount is.)

Question about using the SW points. Husband and I met our spending and our points should be enroute to our accounts in a few days according to chase. If we want to use them for tickets for 5, what is the best way to do it. Call and have them figure out how to split the tickets between us using the points and get us all on the same flight? He has more prior points than I do on his SW rewards so we should just squeak through with enough for tickets between the two of us.

I always do it right online myself just change the dollars to points and work with the numbers. Reading the numbers up, like 3, 2 or 4, 1. Southwest doesn’t work like other airlines with their award seats and having limited availability. You can even breakdown into one-way flights instead of round trip tickets, etc.

OT question...I was going through some old Hotel accounts, from early travel days. I found through Best Western that I have almost 10k points. I also see that these can be trans to SW. Anyone ever done this? Do you think this is a good way to use BW points? I mean we haven't stayed at a BW in years and not sure if I see it coming in the near future. Thoughts...?

I have done this twice. I believe I may have had to deposit in increments of 7,000 but don't remember exactly. For me it was a good use of points. In the past these points could be used towards Companion Pass but this is no longer an option.

I would definitely book one way tickets. It is easier to change if points go down for either segment. The extra points just go back to your account.

I will definitely double check because I thought it said like 5k or so but doesn't really matter based on the amount I have. Either way good use of points.

Start checkin emails... theres a CP offer of just applying for 1 card, $1000 spendings... u get 40k points and CP for a year...

targeted offer.

My dh got this email today. Mine said it was for California residents only. I copied what the email said: Plus, earn 40,000 points
after you spend $1,000 in the first three months of opening your account. This product is available to you if you do not have this card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus for this card in the past 24 months.

What I'm wondering is whether or not I could apply. Dh's RR account info comes to my email which is why I saw it; at first I thought it was for me but it has his name on it. I just got 2 SW cards for him with the 60,000 point bonus and we're hoping to get the CP for 2018 and 2019. That makes him ineligible for the new offer, but I'm wondering if it's targeted just for him. If I got the card in the offer (which is the plus and not the same card I already have, which is a premier), I could also get CP and then we could each fly a kid for free.

If I'm allowed to apply, would I be able to time it the same way, to close in January, and get CP for 2 years also?

Hello all,

I've followed this thread and I think I understand the strategy but I believe DH and I are out of luck. I already had both the SW Plus and Premier, so DH applied for both in September when we saw the 60,000 point promotion. I SM'd Chase today and the rep told me our MSR is December 26, 2017. Sounds like we are not going to be eligible for the CP in 2018 and 2019, only 2018. The 120,000 points will be nice, however.
