Do you think dogs should be allowed in guests' rooms?

This policy is so different from the Universal resort policies that am very curious how this will work. I have no problem with the Universal "Premium" or "Deluxe" resorts which have been pet friendly since day one. Since i never saw pets there and they come with the added advantage of Express passes, I stay there...

Difference:

Dogs may not be unaccompanied at any time. Kennel or dog sitter. Period.
I've loved this idea since day one. I love dogs...I love ALL animals. (I had a squirrel practically sitting in my lap on my balcony at the BC this past May.) I've never stayed at any of the Universal Studios resorts, but that's a great idea that you are required to either kennel or have a dog sitter. If I bring my dog with me to Disney, ( I wish that they would add the Polynesian or FQ since the only resort that I like that's included is the YC) I'll probably kennel my dog during the day anyway.

Thankfully neither the law nor most juries would agree with you. The guy injured by the flying hotdog at the baseball game had two jury trials and lost both of them.

Thankfully?

So if you get chewed up by someone’s dog on wdw property you shouldn’t be allowed to sue Disney too? You mean to tell me that you wouldn’t sue them if you or yours got injured?

As far as the hotdog caper, I don’t know what happened there, but I’m thinking of someone shooting hotdogs into the crowd (like they do with t-shirts) and not someone taking a bite of a hotdog and it shooting out of the bun onto someone’s face or body. If a vendor is shooting hotdogs into a crowd and someone got injured bad enough and the case is not frivolous, then why shouldn’t they sue for medical bills and pain and suffering? Did he lose an eye or get mustard on his clothing? Big difference. If it’s the former and he lost he had a crappy lawyer that should have picked a better jury. If it’s the latter and the person is just being a jerk, then I’m glad he lost.

Disney can’t use the excuse that the animal is wild and wandered onto their property so they are not responsible.

Now before anyone gets bent out of shape, I hope and pray that no one will ever get injured by a dog on Disney property. Unfortunately, it can happen, and if it does, then Disney should be equally liable because they are allowing dogs to be there and the one with the deep pockets.

As a very general note I sometimes find ignoring the thread (like when you get alerts for it) or completely unwatching the thread and then coming back to it after enough time has passed (weeks, months, etc if it's still going that is) can be of great help for perspective as well as at least temporarily easing the mind :)
I have definitely unwatched a thread that goes sideways and starts working on my last nerve. It’s for my own sanity!

Would you be able to sue Disney if you are hit by a car in the resort parking lot and injured? Disney let the car on property and could foresee that a car could hit and injury a customer- so is Disney liable?

I emailed Disney outlining *my* thoughts, and opinions, and some of the things this policy will change about our upcoming holiday.

I did not get a form e mail in return, I got an email arranging a convenient time for them to call me to discus it further. (They couldn't just randomly call as there are time differences to consider)

If they do actually call me on Thursday as arranged, then, at least I have a chance to explain how I feel. I may not be staying at a dog resort, and we are certainly not the people they are targeting for business, but, we got married in the YC, our trip this time is so that my husband, who now has leukaemia can take both his kids to WDW, and show them where we got married. We won't be making the trip over to the YC now as both my son and I are asthmatic, and don't want dogs to trigger this on holiday. I can't care for my autistic son, and my husband with leukaemia if I have to spend time being nebulised. Also some of our party are afraid of bigger dogs - we had a very bad experience with a German Shepherd when the kids ere smaller. It's a shame. It's also something we didn't know when we booked. Just the same as the GF main pool with the slide (being something my kids were really looking forward to using) being closed during our trip is not something we knew when we booked. We can't do our trip over, as this is the chance to go while we can all travel together, and we can't have got married somewhere else. We have to stay on the monorail loop, it is a dream for my husband and son, and the former needs the easy transport these days, so I'm not looking to be moved or anything. I just want them to know that their decisions have impact.

I also feel that dogs less trained than service dogs and kids in an environment like WDW is an accident waiting to happen. And the roll out was appalling.

This is a trial, so expressing opinions is possibly useful to Disney. Like I say, I hope they DO call as arranged, and I can share what I feel.

if you are happy about this change, that's a valid opinion too, and you should feel as inclined to call and say so.

People keep stating it is only 4 resorts, then don't stay there. People being people it is POTENTIALLY more: POR could drift over to POFQ, Yacht could bleed over to Beach and Boardwalk, AOA is connected to POP, and expanding to FW cabins instead of one loop. Do they allow the golf carts into that loop or are they required to be parked at the entrance? What would happen if pet gets loose and gets hit? Disney historically is non-confrontational in enforcing their policies be it smoking, line cutting or chaperones controlling their respective groups at the resorts or in the parks. Disney can designate til the cows come home, but there will always be someone trying to push the envelope. Maybe one way is to use invisible fencing and issuing to dogs their own "magic bands".

I mean, I have a dog, I love dogs. I do not want to vacation with my dog. If I'm spending that kind of $$, he can stay home with friends or family, or go to a kennel if need be. I don't need that added responsibility when I'm dropping thousands for my Disney fix. It's enough that I have to bring and take care of my kids on vacay as it is. :joker:
Exactly! And I think most people who have dogs feel the same way.

I was talking with a neighbor who has two dogs, a Labrador and a Pomeranian mix, and about the new policy at WDW. She told me as an owner living in the NW where it rains a lot, the worst thing about dogs is when they come in from the outside and are wet; the FIRST thing they do is that shake from nose to tail to remove as much water from their fur as possible. I had forgotten about that! She said she has a mudroom to always bring them in so it isolates the walls, floor, ceiling. light fixtures etc. She said you would be surprised how much water, mud, etc comes flying off and how far it can go. Not to mention who ever lets the dog in or is standing in the vicinity is also covered. A designated entrance with towels. dog dryer etc would be welcome for pet owners as well I'm sure.
Little Fluffy probably has her own rain coat and umbrella!

But here is the deal, people who have issues with dogs, no longer have the OPTION of staying at the resorts they have come to love. It isn't "entitled" to want something, especially something you have and are willing to pay for, calling people "entitled" is just as bad as calling them whiny. No one is saying Disney owes them something for nothing, or that they can not make changes that they don't like, but they sure do have the right to express their dislike for those changes. Just like people can post about how / why they like them. Neither of those folks is "entitled" or "whiny".

But I do really love when people complain about complaints, and then keep complaining about those complaints for pages on end. Its really quite amusing.
Lots of things we love at Disney get changed. It is what it is....happens on a regular basis. Best way to deal, is to accept change and move on...just my experience.

To anyone concerned about a child being injured by a dog, I do have to say....please teach your child "never" to approach a dog unless the owner says it's okay. As a general rule, I will never go up to a dog on a leash and pet it without asking the owner if it's okay to pet the dog. It's just a general safety practice. Dogs can be finicky and protective of their owners. I could see a situation where a child runs up to a dog, surprises it, and the dog snaps at him/her. Not all dogs like kids. Surprising any animal is not the best practice. Then again, it would seem odd for a dog owner to take their dog to a place riddled with children. But...there is always that one exception. In the end, I don't see Disney losing business over this because some people disagree. You can voice your opinion for sure, we all have that right, and Disney has pulled things if it isn't making them enough money, and I really don't think we are going to see hundreds of dogs at the resorts.

I am having a hard time with the fact I booked a room at YC only to find out after the fact that I am in Garden room and thats where the dog rooms are. I now can not rebook anything because its Thanksgiving week and there is nothing available at my AP rate. I am very disappointed in how this was handled. I was never notified and never given the option for a move. I only found out because when i called to see if i could extend a day the kind cast member warned me yesterday. I have no problem with this endeavor except for if you are severely allergic and they put this into play and cant accomadate you so early in this process i find this to be very inconvenient. I might have to cancel my trip.

Consider writing an email to Management. Others have had success with this approach. Good luck.

Why don't you try and change resorts? I would hate to have to cancel my trip. Won't you still have an amazing vacation at another resort?
