Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

Hey all! Thanks for the wonderful birthday wishes. Spent the day running errands for Marks mom and my dad and having lunch together. Estimate for restoration of power is Thursday midnight. Yikes!!! No generator but we have a bunch of power sources thanks to techie hubby. Trick or treat in our town postponed until Friday.

I’m already behind here on :welcome: to new posters and updating the Be Our Guest list due to recent trips and the lack of power here is not helping me to dig out!

Word on the street is that schools will be back in session tomorrow. I’ll try to find myself a corner somewhere with coffee and electricity.

Have a great night all. Hope all the kiddos scored lots of candy!!!

I did tape it, and walked the first day...after several hours it was throbbing pretty bad. Tried the knee roller today at AK and it affected my knee so much, I think I'll probably abandon that idea...plus, the cracks and rocks in the pathways at AK made it very difficult to use there. I'll try tonight with just a cane to steady myself...it is feeling better, maybe because of using the roller and staying off it...my knee, well it's just not so fun when the joints start to breakdown!
There is nothing wrong with ordering an ECV! I know it "just a toe" but still- it's your TOE- that's a part of you! If an ECV might stop your pain please look into it and don't feel weird about it!

We are back from our Halloween trip. I'll leave the trip report to Dee but I wanted to give an update on the resort dog situation that is worthy of all the hysteria surrounding this development.

First I'll start with Epcot, and since it's high season for Food & Whine, its only natural to assume that it would be a resort dog magnet. I simply could not get over the large packs of resort dogs, wearing DRINKING AROUND THE WORLD t-shirts, that were obviously intoxicated and stumbling around the Epcot. You'd think with 4 legs they would have no trouble standing up but that was not the case.

I managed to surreptitiously snap this photo of one of those resort dogs overindulging:

dog-beer-1.jpg

There was a long line of Chihuahuas clogging up the margarita booth in Mexico and because of their small size most of them didn't get much past Norway before they passed out in the Stave Church. I saw a Cast Members with a tiny shovel pushing the passed out Chihuahuas and their empty cups off to the side so guests could get through.

Another problem was all the begging for food and the longing looks you would experience when eating at the food booths. I kept trying to tell the dogs that they could charge purchases on their magic bands but they weren't interested in buying the food themselves. I guess what I was eating was way more interesting than anything the dogs could have. There was a lot of thievery going on when people would leave plates unattended on a table and a couple of the larger dogs had no trouble picking off food placed on the trash cans.

I didn't see this myself but I heard from another guest that a pack of German Shepherds had taken over the Biergarten buffet and picked it and licked it clean. The guy manning the carving station developed carpel tunnel syndrome because he just couldn't keep up with demand. I feel sorry for the guests at the resorts those dogs are staying at because that 3 bean salad isn't going to smell any better when it is making it's exit.

Then there was the problem with the senior dogs driving their scooters at top speed and crashing into people. They never apologized... they would just say how they "didn't know how to drive this thing" and giggle as they sped off. Watching them trying to drive a scooter onto a bus was a special treat as they would go back and forth, back and forth for a good 20 minutes.

I can't help but think at this point that since the South American economy has collapsed Disney is trying to make up the deficit with Resort Dog attendance. The next time you are trying to make a reservation and can't get one I would strongly suspect that the room has been taken over by dogs.

Oddly enough we did not see more dogs at the resorts than we normally see and all of the ones we saw were service dogs. I'm guessing this is because most of the resort dogs were at Epcot getting drunk and begging for food.

So there is your resort dog update. True to form the actual "problem" is no where near the hysteria we are seeing from people who are worried about it.

So if we want to go straight to TT or Soarin’, how do we do that at RD from the international gateway entrance? Do you just walk through WS even though it’s still closed at that hour??

Yes, when entering through the International Gateway at park open, before the World Showcase opens, you are permitted to walk to France to get something yummy at the bakery or to go left and walk the pathway (but not into the countries) outside of UK and Canada. I believe you can continue on past Mexico to get to Norway for the Frozen ride or you can enter Future World.

Check out Page 1, Post 13 (FAQ) for more info and pictures.

Now that I am powered up, rested up and working on getting caffeinated, I can post a couple of pictures of meet ups from last week.

Thursday night we met for dinner at Via Napoli. Our friend Lauren joined us to say hello, but couldn't stay for dinner.

Teena's friend, Dee, Sue (Wood Nymph) and her DH, ~Ninjamom, Nannette, Janet and Teena

Bonus food porn!

Melon and Prosciutto Pizza

We had a chance meeting with Teena and her friend at the restroom between Frontierland and Adventureland (it was the place to meet, we had another DIS encounter there as well)

We wisely moved our photo-op to Pirates, though...

Unfortunately, our plans to get together with Teena for Happily Ever After on Saturday night were foiled by the only encounter with rain on the trip.

:(

Thank you to all of the generous anonymous strangers who took a few minutes out of their vacations to make sure these moments were properly documented because as any good DISer knows, if there is no photo, it didn't happen!

Janetmom and I were at the Beach Club for a few minutes to take a bus to the Magic Kingdom. We went into the Marketplace to look around and take some pictures. I'll be adding them to the Marketplace thread when I get a chance.

A CM working there burst out "HI!" when she saw me. I'm thinking- oh no- am I supposed to know her? But when we asked, she said she just wanted to greet us because we both looked so happy.

It didn't occur to me to get a photo with her until we were long gone.

For those of you interested in the construction of the resort Convention Center- here are a couple of pictures taken from the Beach Club bus stop.

And speaking of the BC bus stop, we have been walking over to the yacht club bus stop, and after picking up most of the passengers from there, for every Park we have gone to, there really has not been any room left for the beach club passengers. Last night, we left an hour before a FastPass would expire, at Animal Kingdom. We sat at the BC bus stop for 20 minutes before a time even came up on the bus bored. The time that was listed on the bus board was another 20 minutes away. We ditched the bus stop, and took a Minnie Van, otherwise we would have not made it in time. We're done with the bus stop at the beach club for leaving. But drop-offs are still good.

Also, for anyone interested., if you are staying at a resort that is currently part of the Minnie Van service, once the concierge desk puts the code on your phone, you can use it at any on property Resort in the future, whether or not they are part of the service. Just a nice little tidbit I thought I'd pass on!

Just got back from a five-night stay at YC. We had been to BC back in '99 or so but this was our first time at YC. Loved it! When we got there, we found we had been upgraded from garden view to lagoon view. We got a room just above the lobby on the third floor. A tree blocked some of the view but we didn't care. I liked the proximity to the lobby as I'm still recovering from a badly sprained foot and the less walking the better.

Refurbed rooms were nice. I know some have complained about "de-theming" but I think it's kind of nice to have a break from theming for a bit. Housekeeping was very good - we got extra coffee and toiletries without having to ask, and it was always done by early afternoon. i was worried that the laminate floor would present a noise problem but the whole resort was remarkably quiet and if there was anybody above us, I never heard them. I'd brought a white noise machine anyway, and we used it because my spouse snores.

We made good use of Stormalong Bay. I especially liked the whirlpool section, which I don't recall using back in '99. The kid and I had fun in the arcade. We also made use of the to-go window for Beaches and Cream.

Spouse and I are mulling over an empty-nest trip in a few years and we'd definitely stay at YC again (hoping that the proposed experiment with allowing pets will have fizzled out by then).

Thank you for your review. Do you recall the room number?

My son Ben enjoyed that whirlpool for almost an hour on one trip! I think it has been out of service for many of the most recent years. That's great if it is back in use. I ask periodically but it has been awhile since I have tried to get an update about the whirlpool.

Any suggestions on rooms to request? Traveling with DW, DS7 and DS-10 mos. We have water view at the BC, and we would much prefer an upper floor (3+) with a view of crescent lake rather than a pool, and would like a full balcony if possible (but would be ok with a standing balcony).

:welcome:

When is your trip?

Which is your most important request- upper floor, view of lake or balcony.

You could word your request "Upper Floor with Lake View, please. Full balcony if possible"

:cool1:

How about renting one of those knee/ankle scooters...it can double as a seat during those long queues and waits....

My niece used one after breaking her ankle, and the folks at Disney treated her like a Princess their whole trip!

OK, this post seems a bit prophetic now. :crutches:

Thank you for sharing this info in hopes of helping others.

These work great for small spurts but holy cow if you are stuck using it for long periods they are not the best. Knee hurts from the "pad" , hip of leg doing all the work kills after a bit, and everyone not paying attention hits foot etc.
Spent 3 months using one and while my foot and leg were strong as all get out...my back from leaning to steer and hip and knee were not happy, and uneven surfaces aren't great either. I can see it working with a little kid who is light but for adults who are taller etc I'd do an electric scooter before a knee scooter at disney.

Thank you so much for providing your direct experience using this.

We could not believe the number of people we saw using these, or in boots or casts. Never noticed so many people with mobility issues on previous trips.

:(

OH MY GOSH! I'm so sorry you're going through this, though I'm very glad they caught it before you got bit or brought them home with you! I hope tomorrow is better.

on another note, I *just* switched to BC from POR because of the dog issue....now I have to worry about the bed bugs???? GAH!

:welcome: to the thread.

When is your trip?

As far as the infestation issue, what is happening currently is no indication of what to expect at a later date. Unfortunately, this can be a problem anywhere, from value hotels to the finer establishments, movie theatres, restaurants.

Probably the best thing you can do no matter where you stay is to be vigilant and do an inspection of the mattress before taking out any of your stuff (good advice, although I have never followed it)

I'm reading through this thread so I apologize if its been asked, but is anything going on at beach and yacht club the beginning of August. We are planning our 3rd family trip for august 5th to10th and all the standard rooms are booked.

Its less to stay somewhere else then upgrade to pool or lagoon.

Didnt know if its a glitch or really booked up! Thanks and back to reading.

:welcome:

Let us know if you book here.

It is very possible that the standard view rooms are all booked up- they tend to book the quickest and I think, though not positive, that there are fewer SV rooms than the other categories.
