CHASE FREEDOM Q2 CATEGORIES - UNCONFIRMED RUMOR:
Per a reddit user: the categories are Grocery Stores and transcations made using Chase Pay or Paypal. They got this information from a phone rep at Chase...I'm calling this unconfirmed for now since the phone rep may be as trustworthy as a Disney Bus Driver...

I cannot figure out how to post photos anymore since photobucket no longer works. I tried to post one a couple weeks ago that I thought people here would appreciate but never could get it to work so I gave up. I'll just put the link to the pic here and hopefully, this works!

Here is my other dd. Her dress was one of the vintage dresses off Amazon too:

@Alice Sr. If that doesn't work, I'll try through pm. I think I have figured that out before :)
Oh those dresses are amazing and your daughters are beautiful! I've had my eye on that tropical print in a different style. Seeing it in your picture has convinced me to order it! I'll be at DLR next month too so this will be great for a dapper tiki theme. Thanks for sharing!

Love the Disney burn, lol.

Looks like it is confirmed on DoC. ETA: Nevermind, looks like he is using the same source as you were referring to.

Lots of opportunities with those. Not that it matters to me since all my spend is going toward my MSR on my new CIP but still nice to see.

Ok so dh CIP spend has been met. Refresh my memory chases 5/24 is only for chase cards correct

Don’t have any Amex and thinking that should be the next Card but also want other chase cards but think I need to let them be for a little since getting two bus and Two sapphires in the last year.

Thank you!

Love tiki room theme! So cute! Can’t wait to see a pic of what you do. My dd wants to wear the dress at DL so maybe seeing what you do would give her some ideas.

Last credit card my husband and I opened was Southwest and we got free companion earned and by the end of this year will do 4 trips to Disney for free. But interested in knowing what are other credit cards and perks. I want to go to Hawaii and Europe in 2-3 years and would love free flights there if possible.

How many credit cards have you opened in the past 24 months? Do you have a business? Sell anything on eBay? How much are you comfortable with spending every month on a credit card? What airlines are near you?

It’s definitely possible to get free flights and hotels in Europe and Hawaii.

I want to go to Rome. So far I have 180k Marriott Points for five nights and 60k Delta miles. My SO needs Delta comfort so we are working on getting more miles there.

Southwest should be flying to Hawaii soon. Anywhere in particular you want to stay there?

5/24 is for all personal cards opened in last 24 mos, regardless of bank. You could move to Amex biz cards to give chase a break and not impact your 5/24.

Chase counts all cards except Business cards. Amex Business cards are easier to get than the CIP. I keep getting instantly approved for them and had to wait to get approved for my CIP. It makes sense to get Amex Business cards while you slow down with Chase. I’m doing that now too. The Delta Amex Business and SPG business are at high offers.

Delta public is expiring soon but the same offer will be available via referral until May. Not so with SPG.

@Alice Sr. I recall being told you have to create a separate account. If you want a single account, you just call or chat with them, they can merge it. It merges very clean compared to Chase.

I have three separate Amex accounts: one for my Personal Platinum, one for my Hilton Honors Ascend (also personal) and one for my Delta Gold Biz. Up until now, I've never been able to add a new card to an existing account. Always get an error message when I try. Just added my SPG Biz (through the welcome email link, since I'm still waiting for my physical card), and it automatically added it to my the account with my Delta Biz. Maybe because they are both co-branded biz cards. Who knows? I don't find it cumbersome to have 3 separate Amex logins (5 actually, because my kids each have an account for their AU cards on my Platinum -- got an error message when I tried to add them to my account, lol, even though that's the account on which they are AUs. Go figure...)

@Judique - I'm not sure on the name thing with Marriott...maybe somebody else can help with that :)

@hsmamato2 - There is no "special sauce" to this award availability. This is a standard 7 night certificate so if a Marriott has 7 consecutive nights available on points you can book it. If you want to get a sense of how easy or hard I'd just go on the Marriott site and do searches of properties you might want to stay at. You don't even have to have any Marriott points to do fake searches. I would say that anybody's personal experience would be purely anecdotal...i.e. my ability to book a 7 night at Niagara Falls in September has no bearing on your ability to book 7 nights in Phoenix in August, LOL! Also - at this time you would NOT be able to use this at the Swolphin, maybe in the future but I would not do a Marriott Travel Package counting on that. On the upgrading you nailed it - if you get a cat1-5 cert now and then need to upgrade to cat7 it would cost 60k, each cat upgrade is 30k points :)

@pillow - your 1st comment slightly confused me on whether you were referencing the 7-night Travel Packages OR the free CC night (or maybe both?) Just for clarity's sake: The Free Cat 1-5 cert that comes with the credit card cannot be upgraded or used on any property other than a Cat 1-5. The 7-night travel package Cat 1-5 certificate can be upgraded by paying the points difference.

Regarding the idea of just redeeming a travel package for the airline points...It is the most lucrative way to transfer Marriott to Southwest (even when ignoring the free nights). However it may not be a great value proposition...

Looking at the 270k Marriott -> 120k Southwest option:
  • You basically get $1,935 worth of Southwest Flights for 270k Marriott points. That works out to 0.7cpp valuation on Marriott.
  • Now if you also can use the 7 nights at a Cat5 property you might get another $1,000 - $1,500 in value out of that redemption (now you're at 1cpp - 1.3cpp)
  • IF you instead used those 270k on hotels...let's say you transfer them to SPG, book the Swolphin for 8 nights (that would be 84k SPG points) you would probably get $3,600+ in value out of those points. (and have 6k leftover)
  • Calculated based on Marriott points (for comparison sake) this works out to > 1.3cpp.
  • Obviously $3,600 beats $1,900 all day!! So redeeming for a travel package for flights along loses in this scenario. Of course this is a hypothetical example AND if you have more hotel points than you can use it isn't necessarily a bad option.
Hope this helps some...or maybe it further confuses the topic. Either way it was fun to type, HAHA ::yes::

This is a terrific explanation re: evaluating the Marriott package. Love it!

I often confuse folks lol . . . I was commenting about the ability for a 3rd party to use a Marriott reservation - which shouldn't change (I don't think) regardless of whether its the annual free night or whether its the 7 night package. I've personally pondered this due to the fact that I have such a hard time finding a use for the darned annual free night, and have often wondered if I could give it away. Has anyone else has luck letting a friend/relative use their Marriott res? We cancelled our personal Marriott cards, but we do now have the business cards, so this will come up again for us in about 10 months . . .

DUH haha - I read your comment without the context of the comment you were replying too! It soooo makes sense now lol!

Assuming this is correct, I'll be curious to see strategies for spending via Chase Pay and Paypal. Sure wish Toys R Us took Chase Pay so that I could buy GOC cards (I think they take Apple Pay but not Chase Pay??).

Oh, thank you! I'll share a little story from last night that just made me my mama heart happy. My oldest dd (one in red & white dress) is chronically ill so she doesn't feel good a lot but after several bad days (new meds), yesterday, she felt pretty good. Even feeling good, she always has joint pain though. A boy that she has known since she was in 3rd grade asked her to dance. She was like, "Jordan, you know I don't dance." He said, "Well, maybe for the right song". He went over to the dj and they started playing "Tale as Old as Time" and came back and took my dd's hand and danced with her. Her first slow dance with a boy and it was to a song from her favorite movie

O.m.g. I’m a dude and this story even has me swooning.

ETA: I’ve really enjoyed reading your posts and seeing your beautiful girls all dressed up for their snazzy event last night. And then this post! I can’t even right now.
