Some of us are just stating that we are not shocked by it because on the West coast we have been paying for it for a long time. Same company so for me I would think same practice. That's why I brought it up.

It is the same company but both are run completely different.

But why not? Disneyland hotels built in specific parking JUST for their guests, just like WDW did. They only started charging overnight guests in 2015. They never charged before that. They never allowed non guests to use the lots before and they still don't. There has not been a good justification for charging resort guests at DL. They just started doing it because they could. Like WDW will if this rumor is true. The comparison is fair.

That’s like comparing parking at a Hilton Hotel in a downtown area like Atlanta or Charlotte vs a Hilton Hotel in a small town that has plenty of parking area.

Generally hotels charge for parking because they are limited on space. There is plenty of space at WDW.

If they go through with this, it’s a money grab, pure and simple.

I don't know the numbers, but i'm sure the average length of stay at WDW is higher than DLR, therefore guests will pay more at WDW.

Yeah..that's totally not the case-please see my earlier comment regarding Hilton, Sheraton, etc.

Companies don't usually make a unilateral decision to charge parking fees across all of their properties.

The hotel industry as a whole does not do that. Instead they usually base it on location.

I agree but again I stated that I wasn't shocked about it and stated why I wasn't.

I'm not shocked either especially with the amount of adds ons in the several years past with WDW but when you say why you weren't shocked I was just telling you to assume because "Same company so for me I would think same practice." isn't how the hotel industry even works. That's the part I was responding to.

Depending on if/when they go live with this, they only have about a year until Skyliner goes online. At which point the buses covering the Pop, AoA, and CBR routes to Epcot and DHS can be dispersed to other hotels for transport. The need for buses at the IG resorts will also decline some (I can imagine most folks choosing to use Skyliner to DHS if it's faster/more effficient than the buses).

IG resorts do not have buses to DHS or Epcot. You walk or use the boats.

WHOA, hang on... is this really happening??? Or still speculative? It's hard to tell from the posts so far.

If it is real, or is likely to be soon, it's incredibly depressing; I'm starting to feel like Disney is actively trying to drive me away at this point. First my FL AP got more expensive with more restrictions. Then resort prices increased faster than my income, so we gave up Deluxe stays altogether, reduced our Mod stays, and started staying offsite a lot more. Paying for parking each day of a resort stay would have to be the final straw; I simply cannot afford it. After almost 30 years of regular visits, calling it quits because I can't afford to park my car - which is the only I can travel 90 miles to WDW - is just too much!

(tl;dr: Mickey keeps showing me in no uncertain terms that my financial kind is unwanted, but I guess I'm just to stubborn to throw in the towel.)

I am not surprised but I cannot figure out the exact reason. Is it:

1. the obvious, WDW charges more because it can (the fallback to the industry standard model)?
2. WDW wants to further discourage venturing off property (I really thought the majority of people who stay on property, do not generally venture off)?
3. WDW is running out of parking spaces?
4. WDW is losing guests due to "cheaper" hotel rates elsewhere so they break out the parking "cost" to compete with online search engines?

I think it's "1" but wonder...

They have been charging parking for overnight guests since at least 2011 if not way before that. The only guests that are exempt from that fee at DLR are those staying on DVC point reservations.

#1

2 - I'm guessing the percentage of I'm sure guests who venture offsite is pretty small
3 - I've never heard this is an issue. ..except maybe during peak seasons at the monorail resorts
4 - this would only make sense if they were planning to lower room rates, which seems highly unlikely

According to a WDWMagic source DVC will get two cars per room included in their stay. If it does happen it won't happen within the next couple weeks but will happen within the next fiscal quarter.

That's odd. Do people usually come with two cars? Or am I misunderstanding? :)
