Star Wars: Galactic Starship (resort experience) News

Thanks, Ryan. I'm still of the crowd that thinks they almost HAVE to do some type of immersive entryway into the land from this location. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

yeah, - especially if you are supposed to be on a space ship, you will need something that functions like a transport to bring you "down" from the space ship into the land. I could see something that functions like the Hogwarts Express that moves you from one to the other and uses screens to simulate the outside

I wonder if the resort will charge me for parking my X-wing.....
And since the SW Resort is sort of in a "super-deluxe" category all its own, would you see additional fees in excess of even what they're charging at the deluxes? In the interest of immersion, however, it'd be nice if they just let you crash land it in the nearby swamps for free* (*Disney not responsible for damage - retrieval costs at owner expense - Force powers highly recommended).

Speaking of immersion - it's still very early in the process, but are we assuming that the resort will follow Galaxy's Edge backstory - which appears to exist not only in a particular place (Batuu) but also a particular time (around the time of TFA and about 25-30 years after the OT)? That particular "time" is what I took from the recent press release on the second Thrawn book that will include Batuu and is supposedly set about 30 years before Batuu as it exists at the Disney parks (which reminds me of what they did with Pandora to explain certain features of that land). If so, it would seem that both SW:GE and the resort will exist in and be focused on the more recent "Disney SW universe". It'll be amazing in its own right and very popular. I will admit, however, that that as someone who's a huge fan of the OT and only somewhat interested in "new" SW, it's not quite the same appeal - which just means I'll go a bit later than I might otherwise attempt.

Uh, YES. :)

Well, at the highest end, Poly Bungalow runs $2,400-$4,200 per night, but that theoretically sleeps 8. Thinking seems to be that SW hotel MIGHT be a flat amount per person for a two-night stay — more like a short cruise.

Estimates on what that’ll run seem to vary. I’ve most often seen $1,000 per person for two nights posited — zero take on how grounded in reality this is. That would be the equivalent of the bungalow at the high season (assuming 8 people in the bungalow at $4K/night).

But I wouldn’t expect a lot of discounts... ;)

This area has already been active with the ongoing work for parking expansion and the dirt conveyor.
The area I'm referring to has seen minimal activity. As shown in the photo below, and I can confirm from first hand observation as that's the only way CMs are able to enter (arrow) DHS now, much of that location still has trees and vegetation. The activity you're referring to is adjacent to the proposed resort location.

I either expect this - or that the hotel is so close the "spaceship" that is the hotel discharges directly into the land.

I just don't think there is a way to compare this to a bungalow. A bungalow you are (over)paying for the luxury accommodations and the view of the park and that's it. Here you are probably getting a not-all-that-special sized room for your accommodation. I've joked before that they could theme a resort to the Death Star detention center and have a metal bench and a probe droid in your room and Star Wars fans would say "SIGN ME UP!". But as I said, it's not paying for the room, it's the whole experience included.

Here's what I picture you will be paying for. Again this is about 95% speculation on my part.
Day 1: Arrive at the Spaceport to board your ship(hotel) - checkin probably at 3 or 4 PM. Overnight on-board ship to travel to Bakku (or whatever it's called). Will be some sort of dining experience with SW characters at hotel included and maybe some sort of evening entertainment as well.
Day 2: Debark into Galaxy's Edge. Events will take place within the land and also back on the "Ship". There will need to be handy transport between the two. I don't picture it being a shuttle as much as that the large ship lands on the planet and some sort of moving walkway between the two lands. What will be interesting is that the intent is clearly to keep you occupied for the whole day within Galaxy's Edge and the hotel. At some point - probably later in the evening, there will be some exclusive event inside GE that involves dining and a show of some sort. let's assume park continues to close at 9 PM so probably a 9 PM to 11 PM sort of exclusive event. Return to ship/hotel for "blast-off".
Day 3: Get up in the morning with another final meal/experience, and then spaceship "lands" and you are back in reality/off the ship by 10 AM.

Note in this scenario (which I have no inside information on) it's a "two day experience" but also really only one day of the experience is in Galaxy's Edge. By doing something of this sort - you can take the hotel and split it in two, and have half the guests start there experience one day, and the other half the second day. So say you have a 100 room hotel - only 50 rooms worth of guests (150-200 guests?) arrive on Day 1 above. Day 2 is the start of another cycle, so while the Day 1 arrivals are in galaxy's edge, the Day 2 arrivals are having the on-boarding experience.

So anyways - saying a bungalow costs $1000 per person doesn't mean much here - the room isn't really what you are paying for, and that's why it's likely to be something that will only drop slightly in price per person in the room. (Maybe it's $1000 for the first two people, and $950 for the second two in the room.)

Never said it was comparable in every way. My point was that there are already things on property at the price point being posited, WITHOUT even offering the additional experience. Makes $1,000 pp for two nights not seem insane at all. That’s my point. DH thinks they could set it higher and still sell out a boutique hotel.

In any case, it’s ALL speculation — we have no idea. I look forward to getting details eventually.

I feel for the folks who heard there would be a new Star Wars hotel and are now planning to spend their week-long vacation there in 2020 (or whenever it opens). They are going to be pretty upset when they find out it isn't anything like a traditional Disney World resort. Sigh.

If they read anything about it at all, they wouldn’t be surprised. Then again, I know people who went to WDW and skipped AK because “we’ve been to a zoo before”... ... ;)

On that we can agree - $1000 per person is not insane. The question is if it is a sustainable price model. This isn't something they can have a bunch of rich star wars nerds sign up for the first year and then cancel it. They have to price it so it is always occupied year after year. That's why I think initially the price may not be more more than $800-1000 per person, just so they can be sure they are always selling it out. They'll jack the prices up from there. I could be wrong, maybe they'll open at $2000 a person...but then there's a good chance they won't be opening with me!

Or they could go the other way around. Sky high price to start until they somewhat saturate that market and then lower prices. They’re not locked into anything. They can change the entire model from cruise-like to not. There’s a ton of flexibility. The price at opening doesn’t define sustainability over the long haul.
