How can one obtain Marriott points WITHOUT applying for a chase card. Last card i got from them
was almost a year ago. BUT i have opened several cards last year so Iwant to lay low and
avoid a possible shut down.

Looking to get a suite if possible and its 260K points. This won't be needed for a year so i can work on it
Any ideas? I really don't want to transfer UR points also. I guess i could wait until end of year and
apply marriott card? Any ideas/strategies?

Thanks

***By the way this would be for Costa Rica so if anyone has any other ideas for a
resort/hotel on points let me know. (i have flights covered)

Got denied for the CIP application. I applied with my name and ss# but now they want “proof of current business physical address”, “name of my company” and federal tax identification number.:crazy2::scared:

Did you apply as a sole proprietorship? If so, did you use only your First and Last names as the Business Name? Did you use your SSN as your Tax ID Number?

Someone on OMAAT just mentioned the air transfer program is being discontinued... :\
i feel like @SouthFayetteFan and all the SW flyers from last week.

Same comment was also posted on VFTW. Same wording, different user name. One commented relayed that an SPG agent thought transferring point to airlines sooner rather than later was a good idea. Another commented said they spoke with an SPG agent and nothing was changing soon. Who knows.

If you want to lay low with Chase, it's not just a matter of not applying for Chase cards; you'll need to apply for cards that Chase doesn't know about themselves and/or won't see on your credit report. That usually means Amex, Citi, Wells Fargo, US Bank issued business cards. As for what issuer reports/doesn't report their business cards to your personal credit report, check here.

The most straightforward way to earn Marriott points without signing up for a Chase card is to sign up for Amex's SPG Business credit card. Please consider using a DISchurners link if you can. The current best offer is 25k Starpoints after $5k spend/3 months, with first year annual fee waived. SPG Starpoints convert to Marriott Rewards points at 1:3, so that's 75K Marriott points from the signup bonus, and another 15k Marriott points for the spend. You just missed a higher 35k Starpoints after $7k spend/3 months offer on the Amex SPG Biz, which ended 3/28/18. The valuation of Starpoints and how they will be combined into Marriott as a result of their merger is a little up in the air right now because of some leaks/rumors regarding merging of the two programs today.

Back to Chase, Chase has a Marriott Rewards business credit card that is not subject to it's 5/24 rule, meaning you don't have to be under 5/24 to be approved for it and it will not add to your 5/24 count with Chase. The current public offer on the Marriott Biz is 75k Marriott points after $3k spend/3 months, with first year annual fee waived. However, in a shutdown situation, Chase will obviously know they've issued the Marriott Biz to you and would count that in their Bust Out calculus. You mentioned you wanted to lay low with Chase. What is your 5/24 with Chase? How many cards have you opened in the last 3, 6, 12 months?

Another way is to sign up for Amex Membership Rewards-earning business cards. Amex MR points transfer to SPG at a rate of 1,000 MR = 333 Starpoints, which can then be transferred to Marriott at 1:3, so effectively 1,000 Membership Rewards points = 999 Marriott Rewards points.

[ETA] Keep in mind that Amex signup bonuses are generally once per lifetime per product, so you'll want to apply for only the best or near best offers, which tend to be targeted and not available via public links. For Amex's MR-earning business cards, you can call Amex to request the better offer, as DoC details here.

Is that a good central area? I'm now seriously thinking of booking Costa Rica for next year. I have a Alaska Companion pass
i need to use and 600 in airline credit. i just read on points guy someone wrote don't stay in San Jose it is horrible.

Now trying a decent hotel for points.....

It was a bit of a drive to get to the hanging bridges in the clouds, but otherwise I felt like there was plenty to do near us. We were by the ocean and the Arenal Volcano was about an hour drive. There is a Hyatt in the area for 15,000 points/night.

I was just going to post about Hyatt. I haven't been there but Mommy Points did a couple posts about Costa Rica and staying at the Hyatt resorts this past year.

15k a night? That is pretty good. I was going to try for the Marriott up in the hills because the activities
are included but i will look at the hyatt also. Did you like the hotel?

Sure, but do you have a "business"?

Lots of us have applied (and been approved) for business cards as a sole proprietorship based on selling online (e.g., eBay, Craigslist, Etsy, Facebook), tutoring, consulting, contracting, baby sitting, pet sitting, sewing, horse boarding, horse hair braiding. Be creative.

H/t @Albort for first posting this clip.

I Actually stayed at Breeze Private Residence Club, in one of the timeshare units. I definitely want to go back but want to extend my stay with a few nights in a hotel.
How many traveling?

I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone on this thread can answer....

1) I have the Disney Visa Premiere that I have been focusing all of my spending on to earn Disney money. After this trip, we're not planning on another Disney trip for awhile, so I don't want to use it anymore and focus my spending on another card (see questions 2&3). I don't want to close the card (or do I??? If I close the card when would I qualify for the bonus for opening the card again?) and I don't want to pay the annual fee. Can I change the card to regular card (the straight 1% and no AF) with a phone call to Chase?

2) I have the SW card, and will be coming up on my anniversary at the end of June. I hear the anniversary miles awarded pretty much negate the AF, so I'm not overly concerned about keeping the card open. We do have some ideas of traveling across the country, so having RR points would be beneficial. Do I use this card as my primary spending card? Or....

3) Is there another card (maybe Chase with UR?) that you would recommend for travel rewards? We love to travel and don't always fly, and we're not loyal to any particular hotel (though I like the Hilton hotels more than others, I'm still not picky). But, we like to go away 3-4 x/year, even if for 2-3 nights. Having travel rewards to apply to any of our hotel stays would make it better (duh!).

Thanks in advance for any advice you all may have!!

Wish I was going to Univ! I'd try for this for 2 nights at Royal Pacific Resort https://dailygetaways.ustravel.org/Home/Offer/B0443 (qty 20 though so good luck, although their suite offers for other Lowe's hotels are a quantity of 2 and 3(!) )

Man, that is a really good deal and I'm going for two nights in November... I set up an alert. Doubt I could get it, but it would be great to get it for that price with it including the express passes.

Yes, yes and yes. So I am not sure where I went wrong.

I got denied for the CIC. My last card was 3.8 and the one before that was 1.31. The rep said it was because of too many opened accounts in the last 24 months and I can’t recon it. Is my math wrong? Am I missing a rule? Should I HUCA?

ETA: i got the 30 day message and shortly after it changed to 7-10 days.
Same here. I can’t figure it out. I have to pull up DHs credit report again and double check but I looked at it right before he applied. I waited for the letter, so there is no question.

This is interesting. One of my daughters asked if we could go there one day. My husband said no too dangerous. I really
didn't think about it but now that you mentioned you enjoyed it I will look into it. Costa Rica sounds very exotic to me.
Where did you guys stay? Any tips?
We loved CR. Been twice and took my then 3 year old one of the times. There are dangerous areas in San Jose and Limon. But there are dangerous places everywhere.

Mulling over the idea of a Marriott Hotels and flights deal thanks to the impending doom of SPG airline transfers going away much sooner than I expected. I have no idea where I'd want to go much less which airline I'd use to get there. I'm going to start throwing darts at a map soon.
