Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE RESORTS Information & Questions

Of course "resort" view would mean the resort and not the park. I'm not sure what I was thinking. :rolleyes1

Dan - I apologize, I was not clear. We are actually staying at the Dolphin. So I guess "resort" view would be view of the Swan? Does that change your answer regarding the west wing (is that the wing closer to the parks at the Dolphin) and view of Epcot (is that possible at the Dolphin)?

Thanks again!
A resort view at the Dolphin would generally be the Swan, yes.

Same for the Dolphin, west is closer to the pools, east closer to the central core area and getting out to the parks. In any case, at the Dolphin, if you are east or west, and going elsewhere in the hotel, it could be a lot of walking.

Thanks Dave.

We have two confirmation numbers. Do we only need to link one for the group?

I see the need now (EMH) - so we'll want to do this. I can't quickly summarize the issues we've had with MDE so far - though a call to the help desk always worked (though twice it took the rep about 20 minutes).

A lot of that came from "ignorance" - my trying to set up my account for the trip and my son doing the same as well. Two "Leaders of the Club" was not meant for MDE. (See what I did there?)

So maybe we'll just call again.
From your post it sounds like one reservation is in your name and a second reservation is in your son's name. In this case it is best to link one reservation to the primary MDE account for that reservation. The MDE information would be shared when using Friends & Family feature of MDE.

You could also try linking both confirmation numbers to each MDE account but I expect it to fail with a message about the reservation already being linked to another guest.

Dave

Dave-
Both reservations are in my name, but my son is the "planner" as far as MDE is concerned. I suggested he call them rather than risk getting something messed up.

He bought the Memory Maker yesterday and we expect it will be linked to all the MBs he's already linked. But I don't see it on my account. Maybe it's not an issue - but it's another reason to call.

To me, the common thread on MDE issues is when there are two or more people who have an account and planning a trip together. We've had more than a couple glitches (likely our own "fault") when a second person tries to do something in the app. We reluctantly decided it's safest to have only one person do anything (my son) - even though that should not be necessary.

In that case just link both reservations to your MDE account by default unless your son has already added one or both to his MDE. In the end it is not an issue as long as the Hotel information is available in someone in the Group's MDE. The hotel information will be shared with all members of your Family & Friends group.

Have you checked to see that your son and you both have added each other in MDE? Just go to your "My Account" under MDE, Select Family & Friends on the top bar, select the "Add a Guest" link at the bottom.

Dave

We have all the friends and family stuff in sync (seven in the group all together, plus a two year old not needed in MDE)- and we can each see everyones tickets and FPs and all the dining reservations. So it sounds like if he links the two confirmation numbers I should be able to see them.

Still, paranoia runs deep (to quote an old song) and I may just have him call anyway.

Checked into the Dolphin on Friday and asked for two room requests in advance -balcony and adjoining rooms. I was disappointed that to get the balcony room, they charged me an upgrade fee of $10.00per night per room and we’re on two different floors,so no adjoining room either. Is this typical for the Dolphin to charge you for a room request? We had a resort view room booked by Costco.
HI.Did you book through Costco a package deal or room only...going in january and not sure if I should do room only

The view from our room and the extra space on the balcony is still worth the extra amount from the Costco price. I wish the Costco booking would let you select different room categories when booking, then you know what to expect. Overall, impressed with our first visit to the Dolphin.
How did you book this through costco...going in January,,DH1 is staying at beach club..so we thought swan a good place for us to stay

:wave2: A few room request questions:

I will be putting in a room request soon, and really want connecting rooms since our teens will be in a room by themselves. Reading through previous posts it seems I should not also request a balcony as it is contradictory to connecting rooms due to the configuration of the balconies, but my question is in general what are the chances I won't get connecting rooms if requested (I'm fine with no balcony, but I assume at least one room will have a balcony if they're connecting)?

We have a resort view room booked. I assume this means a view of either Epcot or HS. Can I request Epcot view?

I would like to request a higher floor. Is this contradictory to connecting rooms?

Finally, I see that several people have mentioned requesting West Wing. Why is this preferred?

Any idea if MBs from Aug 2016 will work for ride videos?

:thanks:

We have had rooms with a balcony connecting to a room without a balcony and we have had two balcony rooms connecting (lower floors). However, balcony rooms are a bookable category with a higher price tag. If you have a balcony room booked it will say so on your reservation in the description of the room. IDK from experience if there are rooms without balconies that are connecting, but I would say that there are as there are many non balcony rooms at both the Swan and the Dolphin. (We always book/pay for at least one room with a balcony.)

The views are also bookable categories at the Swan/Dolphin. If you want a view of Epcot and fireworks with a balcony you will pay much more than you do for a resort view room. You can request an Epcot view and you can request a balcony, but if you haven't paid for either of these you are requesting upgrades, which is rare in my experience. You may get the upgrade, but IMO it is a waste of a request. I would request a high floor with connecting rooms in your situation. Whether you want east or west wing depends upon if you prefer to be on the side nearest Epcot or the pool.

We like the west wing because the west elevators bring you so close to Picabou's for QS, Fresh for a great breakfast and the laundry, games room and pools. The east elevators are where you will likely go if you have an Epcot fireworks view. Otherwise, the west wing is more convenient, IMO.

FWIW, we have had good luck getting requested connecting rooms at the Swan/Dolphin, but have never scored an upgrade. (we do ask when checking in about possible upgrades) YMMV.

Good luck!

Does anyone who has recently stayed at the Swan or maybe is there now, have a picture of the crib/pack n play that is provided upon request? Thanks in advance to anyone that does!

Looks like no Swan or Dolphin for me in December. Swan isn't available, and Dolphin alcove room going for $579/night. No way am I paying over $500 for a room for one person. :sad2:
I found a DVC rental for a studio at BCV for Dec. 6&7, and tacked on a studio at BCV to the front of that for Dec. 5th through Orbitz. It will be over $700 less than the Alcove room at the Dolphin. I'm not complaining...Beach Club is good, but I had hoped for either the Swan or Dolphin.
And, as they say...first world problems.

Hello! Has anyone had two of the mobile scooters in one room? My dad was going to use one for health issues, and now my mother broke her foot, so there will be two needed to be in their room. They are staying at the Dolphin.

For those staying on points, the new SPG/Marriot reward categories have been released. It looks like the Swan & Dolphin will be category 6 after Aug 1.

Where are you seeing the new point categories?

I’m really glad I made all my 2018 Dolphin point reservations (October and December) before the point conversion info was released! ;)
