Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

Here is my mini trip report of our June 12 - 16 stay at the Beach Club. We had booked this trip with the room only bounceback discount back in October. We had many wonderful family trips at the BC starting when our three kids were ages 16, 13 and 11 and the BC quickly became the only place we ever wanted to stay at for a long time. This recent trip was with our son and his two boys plus one of my sisters. Initially I booked the bounceback for two rooms for the five of us and then later called back and was able to get a bounceback discount for my sister's room, too. We had two garden view rooms and my sister paid for a standard view but they gave her a garden view room that was close to our room.

We were given rooms 3569 and 3571 which were connecting rooms that overlooked the volleyball court. Our room had a king bed, sofa sleeper and a wet bar. Our son's room was the very typical two queens and a daybed room. We had standing balconies but with the heat and the fact that they were painting outside of our rooms, we never would have used a full balcony anyway. It was just too hot for that.

We were delighted with our rooms. I posted pictures of it earlier in this thread and in the Beach Club room view there here:

We had taken a trip with our son and grandsons two years ago last June. We were at POR for that trip and he admitted that he "wore them out" trying to do too much at the parks. I was very much hoping that he would slow it down for this trip and let them spend time Storm Along Bay. Well, not only did the boys spend plenty of time at SAB, that was just about the only thing they wanted too do. :) They loved playing volleyball and they had met friends there, so for them, that was probably some of the best times of the trip. It was very hot during our trip and no one really wanted to be in the parks too much. Luckily, we never really had any problems with rain, since we were usually eating dinner when the heaviest rain fell.

I had a pretty good trip plan worked out and in general it went very well. Our son and my sister went golfing one morning, which allowed the boys to sleep in, which they needed. And our son and grandsons went to Typhoon Lagoon the next day, which allowed DH, my sister and me to head off and do our own thing. We went to Epcot that morning, rode Living with the Land, then took the bus to POFQ for gluten free beignets. My sister has celiac disease and having the gluten free beignets was at the top of her to do list. Then we took the boat to Disney Springs for a little shopping and lunch. We all met back up at the BC for a late afternoon trip to AK. That late afternoon at AK turned out to be one of the nicest days of the trip. The weather had cooled off a bit and it had rained earlier, which chased the crowds of of the park.

Some of the other highlights of the trip was a very nice dinner at Cape May. The boys really chowed down on the crab legs and it was nice to see them eating "real food". And it is very easy for my sister to get her gluten free foods there. They brought her some gluten free desserts which she really appreciated.

We also had a fun lunch at Sci Fi Diner at Hollywood Studios after my sister and son returned from golfing. We ended up riding Star Tours and RnR and then left the park early. It was too hot and the boys wanted to go swimming, of course. :) We had taken the bus to and from DHS and that worked out well. I was disappointed that the Friendship boats would be down during our trip, since that is one of the perks of staying at an Epcot resort, but we waited less than 10 minutes for the bus both times and it was air conditioned and more comfortable than the boat. This was the afternoon that DH and I went swimming in the quiet pool and watched the painters painting the resort building right in front of us. The pool water was very warm, like a bathtub, and we have never been in such warm water before. But it was nice to relax, anyway.

That night we took a taxi to the Polynesian for dinner at Ohana. It was the one request that the boys had made and I was lucky to get a reservation there. It was our third time dining at Ohana and this was the best meal of them all. My sister got her gluten free foods and she was happy. DH ordered extra pot stickers and noodles and we all ate them up. It was a very good meal.

This was only a four night trip and our Magical Express picked us up at 1:50pm, which left us with enough time to do a few rides at MK, get lunch, and then go to the airport. DH hadn't been feeling well on this trip, so he stayed back in the room until 11 am and then went to the Solarium. The rest of us went to MK and our grandsons got to experience the Jungle Cruise for the first time. We ended up on a handicap accessible boat and it was really interesting how they did that. They took a normal boat out of the rotation, then brought the accessible boat up to the dock. The ramp lifted up from the center of the boat and the ECV was able to ride onto the boat. Once the ECV was in position it dropped down so that the rider was eye level with the rest of the guests. The accessible boat moved forward and we got on. When the ride was done, they pulled a normal boat back in line in front of our boat, and then we moved to the dock for unloading.

My sister and I left MK early to meet DH for lunch at Ale and Compass. It was our first time eating there since they remodeled and we enjoyed our meal very much. The atmosphere is relaxing but I agree the restaurant colors make it look a bit dark. It was a good way to end our trip, though, and we were glad we ate there. Our son and grandsons got back from MK around 1pm and had some flatbread pizzas from the Marketplace before heading to the airport. All in all it was a good trip. :)
That king room looks so nice! I'm hoping we get one in October!

Just booked YC for our September stay and am so excited! We stayed at Swan previously and my kids were so obsessed with the pirate ship we could see from the friendship boats! Looking forward to reading through this thread and learning any tips or advice anyone has to offer for me.

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1, Post 15.

:cool1:

A good place to start on this thread is Page 1, especially the first post, Post 13 FAQ and Post 14, other useful info. Then catching up on the last 10 or 20 pages of the thread and keeping up with the new ones will be helpful. Feel free to ask us any questions you have about the resort.

My favorite tips are to learn about the location of the various "secret" exits and entrances at the Yacht & Beach Club, which can save you steps or keep you cool/dry a little bit longer if the weather is troublesome.

:goodvibes

Yes it is open. I also wasn’t aware that it closed from 4-5, but possibly they just didn’t mention it and I never tried to go then :confused3? Because I also hadn’t been aware that the YC closed from 4-5 after staying there, they never mentioned it there either.
The YC lounge did not close from 4 to 5, I went in to here to grab a drink around 4:30.

This particular report is Yacht Club.

Does anyone who has been at BC CL recently know if that lounge is also open all the time except for set up (4-5 pm)?

:goodvibes

BC CL does not close between 4 and 5. There is a rope they put up where they do food set up they lock the two doors by the concierge desk. However the 3rd door by the room hallway is open and you can go in that way.

We used it early AM, during day and late night without problem this past week out of service hours for soda, ice cream, coffee etc

Getting so so excited for our upcoming stay in a few weeks! I have just a couple questions:

1. If an activity, such as Mickey tie-dye, is listed as occurring between 1:00 and 2:00, does that mean you need to be there at the start? Or may you arrive sometime within that window?

2. Are the secret exit/entrances locked from the outside? If we are staying at the Beach Club, is there any way to utilize the secret Yacht Club entrance on the way home from HS in the event of storm? Would it make that much of a difference anyway?

Thank you!!

How are you planning to get from DHS to BC? If walking, I think it’s shorter to walk from DHS to Boardwalk to BC (along Epcot side, not Swan/Dolphin side), so you wouldn’t want YC secret entrance.

If it’s storming, my understanding is that the boats won’t run. There would be a bus which would let you off in front of BC so again no need for YC secret entrance.

1. We watched them set up and run the Mickey Tie Die when we were there last January. It looked like you could stop by at any time that they had the supplies set out.

2. There are locks on the exit doors that open with your MB. Some of the doors are locked all day and other doors are unlocked between 7am to 11pm or some hours like that. I tested it once and discovered that a guest staying at the BC will not be able to unlock the YC exit door.

DH and I have been back a week from or adults only trip at YC and I started planning a Mother/son trip with DS13 for September. He narrowed down his choices between WL, AoA cars suite and YC/BC and ultimately Stormalong Bay won him over. Part of me was looking forward to staying someplace we’ve never stayed before but we loved Our stay so I’m happy. Back to YC Sept 8-15.

So I’ve been reading quite a bunch. Forgive me if these questions have been answered, but could anyone help me out with these...
tormalong Bay Pool
According to an information website for travel agents, a very small portion of Stormalong Bay Pool will be closed in order to make way for new cabanas. The remainder of the area will remain in full operation. During this time, it is possible that Guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9:00am.
The area is on the YC side of the pool, next to the shallow, kiddie sandbar area.
* Mid-August – Fall 2018* There are also reports that the cabana installation has been postponed until later in 2018. Not much info has been posted by Disney.

as of mid-June, we have no further information on the dates of upcoming work.
Is there any further updates about this? The #1 reason we chose here is because of the pool, and I’d hate to miss out on it.
There are reports that the motion sensor can't be bypassed on the new thermostats in the renovated YC rooms.
Is this true? Being hot is a dealbreaker for me. We had a miserable time at Kidani one year because of the moronic motion sensor thermostat. I got no sleep as I need it to be cold (not just cool but actually cold) when I sleep.

Final question, does anyone know if pets are limited to certain rooms? For instance, are they only on the first floor? Due to allergies I want to be in a pet unfriendly room and want to make sure I take that in to account on my room requests.

Thanks in advance!

Nothing official has been announced by Disney as far as I know. We have informally heard that the projected start time is late August, early September. We have also heard that the project has been postponed until later in the year.

In any event, we are hoping that the impact will be minimal- the area near the sand bar kiddie pool will probably be closed, but most of the pool, including the pirate slide and lazy river, should still be open during the work.

I'll have to have others chime in on this one, because I never really understood the operation of the thermostats, BUT I think others have reported back that they had no issues with room temperature at the Yacht Club.

Anyone want to provide some feedback about this?

My understanding is that they are trying to keep the dogs concentrated on the first floor of the resort, but they are not making any guarantees.

Definitely mention that you have pet allergies on your reservation notes (call Disney's Central Reservation Office) 407-939-1936

You can request a VIP/executive cleaning* of your room before you check in. Call the hotel a few days before you check in and let them know you would like a VIP cleaning of the room due to your sensitivity to animal fur.

Yacht Club (407) 934-7000
Beach Club (407) 934-8000

*Is that what it is called?

Breakfast Buffet Menu at Ale & Compass Restaurant

As noted in a previous post, due to popular demand, the breakfast buffet returned to the Ale & Compass (formerly Captain's Grille) this morning. The price of the buffet includes the selection of one of the entrees from the menu.

Do you need to make ADRs for breakfast or can you just walk up?
