Is there still a DVC member discount for TIW? If so, do you purchase it prior to visiting WDW or can you purchase it after arriving. i looked for info on the DVC member website, but didn't see it. Perhaps I just overlooked it.

TIA

Yep, what the PP said. :D I just renewed mine recently at DS, used my DVC card to get the discount. :cutie:

You can call and purchase in advance or you can get one from any guest service location at WDW.

My understanding is that DVC members can get one only at WDW. Florida residents and annual passholders (AP holders can also get it for $150) can call and get one in advance of a trip.

The TIW card is good for 13+ months depending on date of purchase (the expiration date is always the last date of the month that is after the month in which the purchase was made, e.g., buy on July 1, or July 10, or July 31, 2018, and it is good until Aug 31, 2019

Officially, yes. But many members have posted that they could purchase by phone, so it appears as if the TiW group is ignoring the actual policy.

I was able to call to purchase prior to our trip. I didn't want to bother with having to purchase it at the park. When i did call I initially said i was purchasing with my DVC membership, the CM said she could do it but that i think she would have to go through more steps to verify my membership - so on the phone is possible but just might take a little longer. I also had the AP so that was an easier method for her to verify. You will need to make sure you are calling at least 3-4 week ahead of your trip to make sure you receive the card in time. I would say it took about 2 weeks to get the card in the mail. I don't think they process them daily - it might be a once a week processing and mailing of newly purchased TiW

the separate TIW member site has been discontinued. All TIW info has been incorporated into the WDW website.

Yes the clock starts when you purchase it, not when you first use it, so keep that in mind when purchasing one.

I’ve seen a handful of people claim that they were able to purchase over the phone, but it seems like most of them were AP holders, too.

We always purchase ours at Guest Services. The clock starts on the TIW card when purchased rather than when first used.

OK - Owners at VWL.....

EVERY year, we contact TIW by email. EVERY year, they get when we are arriving,
Then? They are spectacular....
The REAL agents advise us. They tell us WHEN to buy (often three days into a particular month), in order to MAXIMIZE our TIW.

In well over 12 years? We have had 13 month TIW cards.

Now, most folks will say this never happened. Fine, have a good vacation :). Don't care, we know what to do. OUR TIW cards are hard plastic. CM's love 'em :).

Too often, everyone wants to fight. No desire, or benefit to me "fighting". This is what WE do, it works WELL - chose what YOU want to do.

You can ask for it to start on a certain date (first of the month your trip begins) and they'll take your order and automatically process it a few weeks ahead of time. You'll get it in the mail with the appropriate start date well before your trip. Worked fine for me when I called. And yes, they will do a DVC order by phone. The agent simply asked me for my membership number and name/address/phone#.

I called last June and asked for a card that was good 9/1/2017 thru 9/30/2018. They sent it to me mid-August with that exact validity range.
That’s unfortunate. A card purchased on 9/1 should be valid through 10/31.

It wasn't purchased on 9/1. It was purchased in June and shipped in August. If they purchased at the park in September it would have been good through October, but they don't sound like they wanted October.

Pretty much the only reason to call is if you want the plastic card. I don't care whether my card is plastic or not, so I buy at WDW.

Everything I've read and have been told is that they expire at end of the month they were purchased. That's how you get 13 months total on a 1-year price. I've never heard of a 14 month card. Not saying they don't exist since I don't know everything (yet anyway :)), just never heard of it.

I didn't realize there was a difference. Is it just a paper card if you buy at guest services?

I bought over the phone because we often hit cape may right from the airport and that way I have it upon arrival.

The expiration has always been at the end of the month following the month you purchase it. You get a minimum of 13 months. You can get closer to 14 by purchasing early in the month.
