Question About Disney and Universal Tickets

Hello All

We have booked a trip to Disney and Universal for February. Everything is paid for except the tickets. So I guess our questions are two parts.

1- If we buy the tickets for both parks now do I have to use them right away or can I buy now and not use until February? And if I can how will i get the tickets? Are they mailed to me? Printed out?

2- Do the prices change and if so is it cheaper to buy them now or should I wait closer to Feb?

Thanks all

Universal: You can buy your tickets now and use them any time. If you wait to buy them at the gate the price will be more than if you buy them ahead of time. With universal you have 3 options to get your tickets once purchased. A. Have them mailed to you at a cost. B. Pick them up at one of the guest services locations in city walk/resorts. (Free) C. Pick up at Will-Call Kiosk (Free). Not sure if there is a "print" option.

Disney: Disney world tickets are date specific. Meaning you choose the first date you will use them and have X amount of days from that point to use all of them. Once purchased they will be linked to your My Disney Experience (MDE) profile on WDW.COM. You will receive magic bands which have the tickets on them, these will be scanned at the gates to gain entry. For WDW I would suggest buying ASAP so you can make fast pass selections before you go. The price should not change on these as it is set based on anticipated crowd levels.

I just looked at the Universal site- they are seasonally priced, meaning some days (Christmas and New Years weeks) are more expensive that others. You pick the dates you'll use them when you purchase them. So yes, you could buy them today and use them in February. When we went in May there was an option to print at home.

What do you mean by magic band? Something that comes in the mail that you wear on your wrist?

I got the app and saw you can do the mobile ticket on the app as well. I am curious can i go to a park if I have a visit one park per day , leave to eat at city walk and go back in the that same park that day?

Yes at both Disney and Universal if you have a one park per day ticket you can leave that park and reenter that same one as many times as you would like that day.

For Universal the only way to ride the Hogwarts Express is with a Park to Park ticket so do consider if that will be an issue.

Both Disney and Universal tickets can be bought from REPUTABLE re-sellers for cheaper than directly through Disney/Universal. Undercover Tourist for instance sells both kinds of tickets. There are several other sellers that are highly recommended here as well.

OMG so glad you mentioned that as I was not going to do that and would have been really bummed to not get to ride it. Does the Undercover Tourist send you the tickets or how would you redeem them? Sorry for so many questions but disney is part of our Honeymoon trip so want it to go smooth.

They’ll mail them or for Disney you can get the code emailed to you and you can link them to your MDE account.

One question about the park to park. We are going to be there 6 days. 4 at disney parks and 2 at universal. The current universal deals you buy two days you get 2 free. I would rather go with the one par per day cause its $210 compared to $270. So to pay $270 per person an extra $120 total to ride a train seems crazy but I still want to ride it. So here is my question. Since I get 4 days but only visiting 2. Cant I say go to one park in the morning and then ride to the other park and it will just use an extra one of my days? SO I would wind up using 2 days in 1 day or will that never work?

If what do they do check your ticket before you get on the train? Cant you just ride the train to the entrance of the other park turn around and ride back?

They scan your ticket before you can get in line (or board I can't quite remember) to ensure that you have a park to park ticket. If you don't you won't be allowed to ride without upgrading (they have kiosks to do it right there - or at least they did in 2015 on my honeymoon trip). Since they have no way of blocking you from getting off the ride at the other park they can't let you ride both ways without the park to park ticket. And no just like Disney they won't let you use an extra day from your ticket in lieu of buying the hopper.

What you can do at Universal is have a 2 park ticket one day and a 1 park ticket for the other. Doesn’t give you 2 days free but it may save some money. You would have to compare it both ways.

Also Universal does have the print at home tickets. I think you may still have to go to the kiosk to get the actual ticket, I am not sure.
