*The fee increase will take effect on your next renewal date on or after 3/28/2019. If your Card application was received before 3/28/2019, the fee increase will take effect on your renewal date on or before 3/28/2021.
Oh good, I skimmed that and focused on the AF increase instead of the date... been meaning to look it up. DHs SPG biz should renew just before then

I'm thinking of applying for the CSR in a couple weeks - my kitty needs to go to the dentist so I need a new MSR! Here's my stats, please yell if anything throws up a red flag:

CIP - Approved 7/10/18
SW Biz - Approved 10/20/18
SW Priority - Approved 11/14/18

I also have two Amex business cards sprinkled in there from October.

Questions:

1) My current CL is 22k, or about 27% of my stated income. Should I reduce my credit limits to increase my chances of auto-approval?
2) Can I open a PNC account under my DH's name and fund it with a credit card under my name?

Thanks for any advice you may have!

I think the name is pre-filled and can't be changed. There are DPs that the charge still went through fine and also DPs that the charge was reversed. I'm not brave enough to try....

Southwest Update :flower1:

Southwest Hawaii flights should be in the air within 60 days. The company now hopes to sell tickets in February for flights starting the following month. There’s just one big caveat, that the government and its FAA remain open for business. Flights were to be cleared for takeoff this month (January) before the federal government shutdown prevented their obtaining final approval.

SWA Community Outreach Director Laura Nieto: “Our hope would be to be able to sell by the end of February and potentially fly in March.” (1/29/19)

The above shows just how fast and fluid the situation is for Southwest Hawaii flights. Last week’s comments before the reopening were as follows:

SWA COO Mike Van de Ven: The company has only a “reasonable chance” to start Hawaii flights this quarter due to the shutdown. A March start would only be possible in the event the shutdown ends in the next week (which it did). “Otherwise, it will actually be in the second quarter.” (1/24/19)

SWA CEO Gary Kelly: “Our remaining work is currently suspended until the government reopens and the FAA is allowed to resume normal certification activities…. We are anxious for the government to resolve this shutdown so we can bring low fares and a boost to Hawaii’s travel and tourism industry.” (1/24/19)

Beat of Hawaii’s take:
We remain hopeful that flights will start in time for spring break. Southwest had previously planned to be flying to the islands in time for the high-priced holiday season that just passed. That didn’t happen, which then brought them to starting in time for spring break (March). Then the shutdown occurred, throwing schedules into limbo.

Entering the market during a peak period such as March is highly desirable in terms of attaining somewhat higher airfares. Starting in an already low cost season (mid-April to early June) doesn’t really make a lot of sense economically.

Should anything goes wrong with the current plan to fly in March, whether it be a certification issue or related to the federal government, the next desirable time for Southwest to begin flights would be in June.
I also found this article: https://www.marketwatch.com/story/southwest-paid-for-faa-inspector-during-shutdown-2019-01-29
"Southwest Airlines Co. benefited from an unusual deal with federal aviation regulators during the recent partial government shutdown: The carrier agreed to cover the cost of briefly recalling a furloughed safety inspector to sign off on putting three new jets into service."

Sounds like they're trying to get into the air just as much as we want to them to be there.

I think your spacing between applications is fine...the CSR give a minimum $10k CL...youshould be okay with your existing CLs but could reduce if you want

WTH SW, DH booked his flight to LAX this afternoon, like 3 hours ago, 17k RR round trip. He was going to change on of his flights and now every flight is 18k+ one way.
I'm using this as proof I'm not crazy (well at least on this issue). I booked flights the other week. In the afternoon I priced out 4 different destinations, we picked one a few hours later, went to book the flights and every one was massively higher! I've managed to rebook one leg already to lower than the original price l found, just waiting on the other drop back. One destination was 22k RT, looked later that night it was 39k, looked the night I rebooked and I found a slightly different option for 11k RT  And none of the flights were the "only 2 seats left" at this price either, they just all went up; and I tried mixing up the searches with incognito and different devices but got all the same results. This is the wildest swings I've seen from what I remember, especially in such a short time frame.

Cash price for his departure flight was $74 just 3 hours ago, now it's $229! I hope they go back down so we can modify his trip.

Does anyone have an opinion on the Alaska Air Visa, in comparison to Citi AA Advantage Plat mastercard for travel between Alaska and the lower 48 specifically SEA or LAX? I'm specifically looking to gift these points or to purchase the tickets for family there, with intention of keeping card maybe two years. How are they in regards to transferring points to others? Alaska Air is offering 30k miles and companion fare with no blackout dates, and AA 50k miles.

Gifting/sharing your miles will cost you money. To gift 30k miles from Alaska to someone else's ff account it would cost you $325 and on American it would cost you $390. You can avoid that by booking their flights with your miles.

To give you an idea of how many miles it may cost to book an award flight I checked a random Friday in June from ANC-LAX in coach. Flights with connections can be found for 25k RT miles on Alaska and 30k miles RT on AA. Direct flights were 40k RT on Alaska and 60k RT on AA.

If paying with money a direct coach flight on Alaska RT was $585.70 in the main cabin for one person. Basic economy was a little less. The second passenger could fly on the companion pass. If you are the card owner you don't need to be on the flight but you would need to pay for the flight in order to schedule a traveler and companion fare passenger.

A direct RT flight on AA was $551 per person in economy.

Before you decide you may want to look at the options regarding flight to and from the specific airports you are considering.

I received an email from AmEx that the hotel credit with the Biz Platinum has officially increased to $100. Any guess when they will begin the Dell credits? I've got my eye on a camera lens that I would love to have before 2/8.

Any reason to freak over getting two of the same cards? We’ll call tomorrow but it’s kinda odd. Hilton MEX Ascend. Got one last week but didn’t activate it yet. Another one came 3 days later. Different number, one has a Hilton rewards # on it, the other is blank. Otherwise the same. I actives one with no issue.

My Hawaii plan is to book Hilton Hawaiian Village via UR. If I get the Hilton Aspire the $250 resort credit can be used toward parking and resort fee, correct?

DoC updated with DD’s deadline.

Practically speaking, it’s too late to apply for the Biz Plat with the 100k MR/$10k MSR offer and old $450 AF because all the Amex reps who can offer these terms are gone for the day.

ooo, i see it now. RIP. it originally did say 1/31... i was like how is that 2 hours? lol

Could use @Haley R 's cat from last night. Heard stuff being ripped apart in the kitchen over the movie I was watching and half expected to find the mouse sitting on the counter ripping a food box apart. Seems to be in the drawer under the oven, not investigating more until Mom gets home to help because 2 hands aren't enough to open the drawer and hope to catch it under something at the same time. Also time we finally patch the hole behind the stove so they stop getting in. Have the gate up to keep Dude out since I don't want to find out what happens when he tries to make friends with Mickey which is what he'd do. He used to be quite good at catching the crickets that would get in our NC house and still goes on bug patrol at night :) Thankfully he doesn't find anything any more.

I would not be happy if I saw a mouse in my house.
