For those wondering what these metal trains look like. Josh has a pic of one of these metal trays with the BBQ platter at Sci-Fi. As I mentioned upthread, it is a perfectly reasonable option, IMHO. This is similar to how I have been served in BBQ places here in Atlanta.

Friend of mine posted a picture like this from a Seattle restaurant. I also had this type of tray in Dallas now that I think about it. And as I posted upthread we receive these trays at burger/sandwich places where I live.

This is not uncommon as much as people want to think it is.

When it’s being served to an individual at a restaurant by a server, I think it’s fine. I just see it as a different way of presenting the food.

But it’s different in a cafeteria style restaurant like the AllStars where you might be ordering different sides for different people and trying to carry them to check out. I mean, let’s face it, if I’m ordering scrambled eggs and sausages for 3 people, I’m not going to be able to manage that with 3 trays and I really don’t want 3 blobs of eggs on one tray. :confused3 Those trays just don’t make sense in this kind of setting.

The paper doesn't stick to the food. It isn't shredded newspaper. Its a sheet of waxed paper. The real worry would be eating coleslaw. Gross.
I've had food served on thin butcher paper...no problem. As I posted before...I understand why people are upset about it. I was upset about a few WDW resorts I stayed at and I don't stay at them anymore. If I stayed at a resort that served my breakfast on a metal tray instead of a plate...yep, would not stay there or I would eat elsewhere.

Have to agree-the Metal tray system just "feels" different to us in World Premiere and Intermision than it would in a full-service like Sci-Fi.:)

I wonder if you request a plate would that wish be granted? I never ate off of wax paper on a tray but Ive never eaten at a BBQ place either. At the Poly in Oct I ordered the allergy waffles and they served them in a box. I should have asked for a plate but made the best of my box.

My sister had a quick and dirty bout of what we suspect was food poisoning as we were leaving Disney last year. The only thing she ate that I didn't was the coleslaw that came with the burger we split at the Pop food court.

Somebody explain to me how a large piece of waxed paper is more environmentally friendly than a much smaller paper plate.

Cheaper - yes. More environmentally friendly - really?
Don't forget, they'll go through more trays this way, also (can't put a few meals worth of plates on a single tray). More trays to wash = less environmentally friendly.

Why not WAIT until there are more pictures of what you're describing before creating a problem that might not exist?

But what's the problem that doesn't exist?

I don't need a picture to know I can't carry 3 trays and @WEDWDW already reported on page one of this thread that the scrambled eggs are served in blobs on the tray, so it's either one way or the other.....all the blobs are on one tray or there are 3 trays. Either way, it's a problem if you're getting food for multiple people.

It's like those plastic sipper lids Starbucks have been trialling as an alternative to the classic straw and lid combination. Actually uses more plastic than both the straw and lid combined.

As I understand it, it's not the amount of plastic that was the problem, it's that you can't recycle the old shaped plastic, but you can the new, so it's a net "gain" for green. lol

Thing is, it will depend on if there's recycling bins available that will accept a wide range of plastics, and if the user does recycle it. Problem is that if there's no recycling bin, it'll always be thrown away in the rubbish and it'll take longer to degrade. It would have been far better if they were made out of polylactic acid, which is a bioplastic that degrades naturally just like paper.
