Just as a guess, I'd have to say it's the way you held the phone when you took the original picture. The phone will self-right the photo for you, but the file probably loads in the orientation the picture was taken relative to the camera (does that make sense?)

I had also thought it was the orientation of the camera when the photo was taken. It isn’t.

I took this photo in Portrait orientation and when posted, it is rotated 90 degrees to the left.

It may be because iPhones have the “Live” photo feature which may mess up the compression and posting of the photo.

Thanks, @ScubaCat! I have my iPhone camera set as Most Compatible so there probably isn’t anything else to try.

Switched to photo in Normal Mode and HDR; Portrait orientation; photo rotated to left.

There are apps to fix the photos. What generally happens is the sensor doesnt detect that your phone has rotated, so it's taking the picture as if it were upright.

This is an older issue that MAY not be relevant in ios 12 and newer devices - I'll test with the wife's phone if I can get ahold of it ;) - but anyway try rotating your phone to the left (counter clockwise) to take the photos... Ear mic on left, home button/area on the right. I believe if you rotate the other way it doesn't detect it and they get flipped. The "volume snap" feature let's you use the volume button to take pictures, but that has to be on the bottom for the orientation to be detected. Again this may not be a thing anymore but worth a try anyway.

Besides, Android is better anyway :rolleyes1 😈

I have a Pixel and my pictures are rotating themselves on my trip report as well. Dunno what to do.

BTW, @hiroMYhero I love that dog!

So does anyone know how to fix the picture orientation on the boards?

I’m having this issue too. I’m not taking my pictures sideways or anything. They used to post fine before the update but now a lot of my pictures post sideways

So I am having this problem with portrait photos only. I have a Samsung Galaxy phone. So is the only way to fix this is not use attach file and just copy and paste the photo in? I have never put photos in using copy/paste but I will have to try it out.

When I needed to downsize a photo, I’d email it to myself in the reduced format and then copy/paste without a problem with orientation.

For this photo, I had to Edit and flip it, save, Edit again back to Portrait orientation, then copy/paste. That’s 4 steps too many.1559510305921.jpeg

Yeah that’s way too much work. I’m just gonna keep attaching them and letting them be sideways or upside down. I don’t like putting them in my post because it makes my posts too long.

I tried to copy and paste too but I copied my picture but it did not paste onto the board.

Wellp, I was hoping there was a fix for this, but it doesn't look like it. For anyone on a Windows PC, here's a way to compensate for it. It's just not the quickest fix: I guess the problem has always been there; the new DIS site software just doesn't compensate for it the way the old software did. But I seriously love not having to re-size all my photos. It's doing this for pictures I took with my Samsung Galaxy Tab and with my Panasonic digital point-and-shoot. It's not just an IOS issue.

Thanks....Do you have to do this on your computer or is there a way to do it on your phone?

I've been having the same problem with photos not taken in landscape mode when I try to add them to my trip report, and I have a newer iPhone X. I use a Mac and haven't been able to find a work around like @sayhello was able to find for the PC. It's really frustrating, and has only been an issue since the DIS change. Before the new rollout the pictures uploaded fine. I'll try to drag directly into the post and see if that works.

I'm sorry, but I don't know. Most of the pictures I'm having issues with were taken with my digital point-and-shoot, and I tend to do all my posting for my trip reports on my PC. Maybe someone who posts from their phone can answer.
