My Chistmas Wish-A small town white Christmas

Not trying to rain on your parade, but some food for thought . . . If you are going somewhere that is pretty much guaranteed to have snow, have a backup plan in case you get snowed in and can’t leave at the end of your trip. My sister’s in-laws live in upstate New York (just a few miles from Canada) and she and her husband used to go up most Christmases, until the year of the blizzard. Flights were canceled out of the airport for several days, so they decided to rent a car and drive part of the way home. They got the last car at the airport solely because of my BIL’s status level (the car they got had been set aside for someone else). Instead of a three hour flight, it was a harrowing and dangerous drive for a day to get far enough south to find an airport with flights going out and they were two days late getting home. Make sure you have a back up plan whether you drive or fly so you won’t be stressed out should the weather turn bad. I have driven in snow, and it’s no fun.

I hope you find your Hallmark Christmas! :santa:🎄🍪

Once again, we are a short drive up a well maintained road, and once you get here you don’t need a car

Sorry, I wasn’t clear that my response was directed to the OP. If they haven’t been around snow for a while, the fact that airports and roads could close might not be on their radar when planning. It’s a good idea to factor in ease of transportation when deciding where to go. Glad to hear you are in an area that isn’t disrupted much by the weather. Snow is lovely to look at, but I sure don’t miss driving in it :)

Pigeon Forge is not what I think of when I think "Hallmark Christmas" town. The main strip in Pigeon Forge reminds me a lot of Myrtle Beach, very commercialized, plus the chances of snow in December are not high.

I would choose Stowe or Park City. Actually, I would choose Banff but if you don't want to go anywhere requiring a passport, Stowe or Park City.

Edited to add: Earlier this year, Hallmark shot parts of a Christmas movie in the town where my husband works. From personal, first-hand information, I can assure you that the town is not at all picturesque. The area where they were shooting looked cute once it was decorated but the beautiful, snowy, holiday small town in the movie is a complete fabrication. We live in the south.

Oops, I was also directing towards the op, in a “hey, see this here” sort of way

We also have had sub zero F weather already here in PC, which was weird for this time of year, but allowed me to check off a bucket list item... but this was also the view on a run recently...54B62A37-6CED-46D0-949C-E6B7E60B75DD.jpeg

Hallmark shot parts of one of the Christmas movies in the town where my husband works.

I’m watching the Father Christmas movies, and they’re all filmed in Canada.

The majority of the Hallmark movies are filmed in Vancouver, CA. The head of Hallmark said that in an interview last year. He said they are running out of locations there that haven't been used & are recognizable as having been used in other movies already. A few are filmed in other parts of Canada, depending on the level of the star and where they need to film. I think a few have been in Toronto.

Hallmark has been able to nab Susan Lucci, (Erica Kane on All My Children,) a couple months ago, to do an upcoming mystery movie (series) I think they said. The way she spoke, it's unlikely that it will be in Vancouver. They want her so badly, that I think they will film in the states or on the eastern side of Canada, so Susan can be closer to her DH, kids & grandkids.

It sounds like they are branching out from Vancouver then. I live 3000 miles away from Vancouver and we rarely, if ever, get snow here. When they were filming the movie here, they sprayed fake snow everywhere. The movie premieres on December 7.

A new location suggestion

Yes, sorry busy morning so couldn't elaborate but wanted to throw it out there .

The main Street village area has the sort of feel you are describing. Holiday Valley ski and spa right up the street. Also close to Buffalo and Niagara Falls for a day trip if desired. You would likely fly into Buff Niagara airport to get there and it's a little under an hour to drive to Ellicottville from there.

And a lot of these films are done in the summer. I can tell by the outdoor shots.

Now, it does look like the show Heartland films into at least the fall. Now, that show has very pretty scenery. I’d look to see what’s available nearby.

Yes, they showed that on the Hallmark interview/preview. And for one film, I think it was Christmas at Holly Lodge, they CGI-ed the mountain behind the lodge.

Another movie, they go to a Christmas fair, and the snow machine must have broken and they had no CGI, and you can tell where the snow ends, and there's a green grass field off to the left of the TV screen.

However, the small towns they are trying to recreate DO exist in places, like Park City. I've been to a couple in New England, but in the fall.

I second Jackson NH for that small town feel. But for guaranteed snow you probably want Colorado, Banff, etc. the NOAA publishes a map with the odds of snow at Christmas. You may want to check that out.

Make sure to rent a SUV with four wheel drive. While slipping and sliding will still be a possibility the higher ground clearance is very helpful in snow.

One thing you mentioned was tree lighting and making ornaments. Make sure to plan ahead around the tree. Some places won’t allow live trees for insurance reasons or may already have up the tree and decorations. Also the last few years around here (southern New England) trees have sold out well before Christmas. Getting a tree Christmas week is impossible. If you were speaking of the towns tree lighting those usually happen around Thanksgiving.

Maybe take a peek into Santa Clause, IN. Snow isn't a given, but they do have lots of holiday activities.

Southern Indiana probably will not have snow at Christmas. Santa Claus would be a cool concept though. If you could get one of those cabins at Lake Rudolph, they have packages available. French Lick/West Baden is less than an hour away too. They have a really good Christmas theme. If you book it far enough in advance you could do the Polar Express. Unfortunately southern Indiana doesn't have a lot of snow to offer.
