November W.I.S.H. Challenge - Here come the Holidays

Woohoo... not only am I headed home today, but there are also non-tech folks here today who are also headed home this afternoon -on an earlier flight. So I was able to change my flight to the earlier one and will ride back to the airport with them and not have to Uber. Sweet!

Beautiful fall day-great workout raking leaves and hauling them to the curb (our wonderful borough sucks them up once a week through November). Also tried a new healthy soup recipe for dinner last night-Italian turkey sausage, carrots, onions, potatoes and spinach. I added a can of tomatoes. We really liked it and yay for leftovers! I have another one to try in the crockpot tomorrow-a beef goulash. Trying to get out of our dinner rut.

My woohoo comes from this past weekend and the AMAZING time I had at WDW for the Wine and Dine 10K! Race wise, I got to meet a ton of characters (Carl from Up, Bowler Hat Guy, Chef Goofy, Chefs Chip/Dale, and Lightning McQueen/Mater), ran as a classic Mouseketeer (complete with name on my shirt), and have a really strong race in terms of the actual running. Besides the race part of the weekend, I also got to show my mom and sister Galaxy's Edge, spend lots of time at Food and Wine, tried the Skyliner (and didn't 100% hate it), and most importantly got to see the HALLOWEEN TO CHRISTMAS CHANGE OVER AT MK! Such an incredible weekend overall!

Way to go! That is a wonderful woohoo! And it sounds like a great trip! I keep thinking about running a 10K or half marathon. But running is one of those love/hate things for me. Sometimes I love doing it and other time (more often) I hate it. And I only do it seasonally. I keep thinking I would do the Princess half marathon. But my husband has talked about the Wine and Dine one...but I wasn't thinking about the fun characters I could meet during that one too. So maybe one day we'll do that. Thanks for the inspiration :)

It's Thankful Thursday! Share your gratitude.

It's so easy to focus on the negative things that happen to us. But it's important to focus on the good. When we're having a bad day, those good things are the things that will pull us through and keep us going. I don't know about you, but I feel like I always make that so complicated. I look for big, new things to be thankful fo. But it's the little things in life that we often take for granted. So let's keep it simple today. What piece of clothing or furniture are you thankful for?

What piece of clothing or furniture are you thankful for?
I'm thankful for my bed. I am definitely one that needs her sleep. I get grumpy without it. I've been camping before sleeping on cots and air mattresses. I've slept on floors and couches when spending the night at someone else's house. I never sleep as well without an actual bed. And no matter how bad the day is, my bed is always there waiting for me at the end of the day to sink into, get a good night's sleep, and wake up the next morning refreshed & ready for a new day.
I'm also thankful for my socks and gloves. I am a warm weather person. I do not enjoy being cold. And while there are all sorts of clothing that help to keep my entire body warm in the winter, I especially need my hands and feet to be warm. So thankful for socks ands gloves to do that!

What fun - and congratulations!

Sticking with the theme for this week... I'm grateful to be home. And that the testing all went so well: we've met the criteria to move on to the next level of testing, which is User Acceptance. But even more than that we've proven out the impact doing a proper round of testing has... we didn't do that for the first facility that went live on this new technology and they are still sorting thru the issue that caused.

When I got home the cats were pretty happy, but I could tell Mike didn't feel well - again. I'll coddle him over the weekend and see if we can get back to where we were before I left.

The past two weeks I haven't been following as low carb as I should be, and it is starting to take a toll... yesterday when we landed and I turned my phone back on, there were a couple of emails that really set me off, like the flashes of anger that I used to have frequently but had settled down since changing my eating habits. So I'm clawing my way to where I need to be. Focusing on thankfulness today will help me to calm down, but it is going to be a busy stressful day.

You definitely should! My mom and sister (who are NOT runners) do the Princess 5K every year. Regardless of which weekend you pick, there are always tons of fun characters to meet and experiences to be had!

What piece of clothing or furniture are you thankful for?

Furniture: Definitely my bed, including all of the pillows, blankets, and stuffed Mickeys that are on it. I am rarely not exhausted by the time I get home at the end of the day, so there is something wonderful about being able to curl up in my warm bed and relax. Plus an overly-sleep deprived teacher is not a good thing, so my bed is important for the well being of everyone in my life

Clothing: This one was hard to think of, but I have to go with my Disney College Program Alumni hoodie. Not only am I always grateful for hoodies (can you tell by the warmth theme that I live in the frozen Midwest?) but this one in particular always reminds me of one of the best experiences of my life that I am so grateful to have had. It's fun striking up conversations with people who want to know about the program while I wear it, and I'm especially grateful when it is with my students who may end up on a program of their own someday.

Does my fireplace count as furniture? I love coming down in the morning and turning it on (it’s a gas fireplace) and watching the Today Show. I enjoy decorating the mantle for the holidays. I can’t imagine living somewhere without one.
I have a sweater that was made by my father’s aunt in Norway over sixty years ago. It’s gray and white and patterned with reindeers and has beautiful pewter buttons. I love wearing it-brings back a lot of good memories.

Oh, I totally missed the furniture and clothing part.

For furniture I'm thankful for the new sofa I bought earlier this year. I love the turquoise color, but at the same time a day doesn't go by that I don't wish I'd gotten it in grey. Most of all I love that it's got the chaise which means there's enough room for me and the cats.

Clothing wise it has to be my beloved puffy coats.

You all have such great answers and lots to be thankful for.

@softball chick I agree, a sleep deprived teacher is never a good thing! And what a great experience you've had with the Disney college program. I wish I had known about it when I was in college.

@sjrec I love your fireplace. Yes! That counts as furniture. Our house doesn't have one and, having grown up with a fireplace, I miss it so much!

@Oneanne I also love that color! And so nice to have room for you and the cats ;) I'm in the market for a puffy coat for recess duty. Any suggestions?

Yep, yesterday was a wild work day and today looks to be much the same. Then I need to be up at midnight tomorrow night while the team deploys some code - fun times.

Other than that, no big plan for the weekend, except my new artificial Christmas tree arrived, so I just might put it up. And I'll also test the outdoors lights, but probably won't leave them on quite yet. Oh, I also want to swap the living room curtains to the heavier winter ones, and will probably also put the festive red curtains up in the bedroom... and heck, while I'm at it I might as well get the Santa sheets out.

Yesterday a new book I ordered arrived - it's called 'Making a Life' and profiles a group of folks who make/create things and is about their histories, processes etc. I flipped thru it last night and it is really, really good. My plan is to read about one person each day and really soak it all in and think about the path I want to take in my own life.

Oh, and if I can find my book on natural dyeing, I'll dye some of the fabric I got for my quilt.

Have a good one everyone.

This sounds awesome. I might need to try this.

Yesterday I was thankful for a few things. 1. my bed. I was home sick yesterday and it was nice to just lay in bed and rest. 2. My leggings and over sized sweatshirt to lounge around the house. 3. For a great doctor and meds.

So for about a week and a half the back of my head on the left side has been hurting. Advil was helping so I just thought I slept funny or something. Well by mid Wednesday I couldn't move my head without being in a ton of pain plus the front of my head was hurting too. A heating pad and my migraine pills did not touch it. So I went into the doctor yesterday to see what was going on. I have an ear infection and possible migraine at the same time. My ear does not hurt except for when she put the thing in my ear to check it. I never would have thought that I had an ear infection. She thinks it is from the cold I had at the beginning of October and that I have had this for a week and a half now. I am on an antibiotic and a steroid. I am feeling better and can at least move my head more today but the meds are making me sick to my stomach. So this weekend I am just going to rest and hop my body gets used to the meds and I start to feel better.
