News Round Up 2020

Brings it in line with FOP vs Na'vi River Journey at AK. At least with FOP (and I would hope the same will be true for MF:SR moving forward) you can watch the app to try to grab a dropped FP throughout the day. I and many others have had the opportunity to ride by doing that. Or, you can get in line right at the end of the night and not wait near as long as you would at any other time of day.

We go often enough that no ride is really worth stalking the app for, when it all comes down to it. If I’m going to stare at a screen all day, I might as well stay home. (lol, well, that’s what DH thinks, anyway). Most weekends we go are busy enough that 4th FPs for headliners are rare. Yeah, sometimes we luck out, but not enough to make it worth the effort. DH would rather “throw money at it” at some point since he feels that’s way easier (and, yes, he is exactly the target audience for those rumoured paid FPs). And, unless circumstances insist, like the blasted BGs for RotR, we really aren’t rope drop people. An After Hours or late night might work, so hopefully they’ll add a SWGE one at some point. Disney, are you listening?

My guess is because The Mickey ride is opening March 4th.
And then how long until that has FP? Do we see what we did for MFSR and it just be standby, or does Disney introduce it right away? Have to think that when MMRR FP becomes available it will be tier one as well.

I'm actually pretty sad about smuggler's run fast pass. I forgot how nice it was to be in a continually moving stand by line.

Yes! We waited about an hour for it, but it went by so fast as you are constantly moving, like the old days.

Will be interesting to see how it affects stand by wait times. If this ride suddenly sees anything over 70 minutes, I think we can state that FP does bring higher wait times.

I for one have been WAITING for fastpass so I can go on the ride. I didn't want to wait standby.
Very interesting.

I wonder why they opened up fast passes for Smugglers Run, have the wait times really been that low it can justify that. I guess we shall see how it effects the wait time starting mid February
Wait times were about an hour for Smuggler's run over the MLK holiday weekend. There was really no need for it to be added to the FP system.

Our trip in March is still all 9 AM but I’m fully expecting 7. I think unless something changes with regards to RotR’s operations it’s a pretty good bet that they slowly change all the days as we approach them.

Its going to be awful dragging my family for the 7 AM opening, but I’d be scared what crowds would look like for a manageable time like 9.

I hope they do change the time I really want to grab my Boarding Group and head to Space 2020 for Breakfast if it opens lol I'm not a morning person but I am at Disney!

Yeah but a lot of people haven't ridden it yet because they won't wait over 30 minutes for a ride. Now they'll have an opportunity.

We rode it in September and waited about 60 minutes in standby just because we had no other choice and we love SW. We wouldn't wait that long again, so now we won't have to. I'm happy about it.

Yes and no. It would bring longer stand-by wait times, but you have to weighted average them against the Fastpass wait times to understand if total wait times go up or down. Since Fastpass percentages are top secret info as far as I know, I'm just going to make up some examples.

If it's 40% Fastpasses at 15 minutes and 60% stand by at 90 minutes, the weighted average would be 60 minutes. If it's 70% Fastpasses at 15 minutes and 30% stand by at 90 minutes, the weighted average would be 37.5 minutes. I've seen wait times for MF:SR at between 30 and 75 minutes for the most part since opening. So one of these might be a wash and the other might be shorter on average. Unfortunately we just don't have enough information.

I have not been on it yet, but I heard that the preshow in the standby queue is a big part of the ride experience. If you push standby time over 2 hours, people will get the fast pass instead and not really get the whole ride experience. A one hour or less standby time when you have a good preshow is really the ideal situation. MFSR going to FP is going to ruin that.

You don’t miss the actual pre show for falcon in the fp line. The pre show is at the merge. And you can see into a good chunk of the regular queue from the fp queue. It’s theming that you miss in the fp line not the actual pre show.

When DH and I left the kids behind in October, I thought the 6/7 AM openings were the greatest thing ever. It bought us so much time. Totally agree it made things very relaxing.

My kids are not nappers, I think it's just going to make them jerks lol. But oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do!
I'm traveling with my Daughter and Her bestie. If they don't get up to rope Drop HS I'm leaving them they will be 18 and they will probably not get up early and still nap later in the day lol My daughter is not a morning person especially on vacation lol.

Fastpass doesn’t skip the preshow, the merge point is just before the preshow. They only miss the view of the top of the Falcon.
The Singles line does miss the preshow though.

If morning of I’ve got slow moving family members, I’m leaving them behind 😂.

My only guarantee is my oldest son. He popped out of bed faster than I’ve ever seen when we needed to get to DHS early for Jedi Training sign ups when he was younger. He’s already planning how early we’re going to be at the bus stop for this.

This is good to know. I thought I was going to have to miss important parts of the preshow if I would use a FP on the ride. I have no problem doing a hour queue to experience the full show, but at two hours are more that is a no go for me.

It’s great for anyone who stays on-site for a weeklong trip...which is more and more obviously Disney’s preferred guest. For APs like us, that go for a weekend every other month or so due to work constraints (DH really can’t take a week off all at once) but always stay on-site and still spend a good amount of money on food and souvenirs, we’re pretty much getting told our time and money isn’t as valuable to Disney. The only way we’re likely to get MFSR now is going to be to stay CL or drop a ton on VIP tours. DH won’t willingly wait in a standby line longer than about 20-30 min, and there’s no way MFSR will be shorter than that for years (we rarely ride FoP for that same reason).

Yeah, I completely get why this makes a ton of people happy, I’m just not one of them. And we leave for Orlando for the weekend tonight, so starting off the weekend grumpy was not part of the plan. Guess we better ride MFSR a couple times this trip...
Ride also has single rider. I am not surprised they are adding FP for Falcon. The line moves really well and its been incredibly efficient for a while now.
