My family just got back from 5 days in the parks!

We went to HS on Saturday, Feb 1st. 7am opening with a 2 year old was tough but totally worth it! We were able to secure BG 4! We also had to utilize rider swap since my 2 year old couldn't ride.

Excellent ride! Well worth the effort of getting up early!

I would assume they would fire it up as always and run it through. The RotR CM arrive 3 hours before park opening for all their opening procedures and testing
Thanks for this info! Do you know how often CM's arrive to run through morning tests and start-up procedures for other rides?

It’s moving painfully slowly this morning. Gonna be gutted if we don’t get on (BG 100) after being there pre opening. Hopefully it picks up this afternoon (fingers crossed)

As long as your entire group is through the gates before opening time you're good for joining BG. Half an hour before opening isn't early enough to have a rope drop advantage for some of the other attractions, if that mattered to you. At park opening time, the virtual queue opens and you can join BG. Just making sure you know that everyone with a device can sign into the same account in order to have multiple people trying to get you guys in a BG.

Rider switch is in use at RotR. Everyone who wants to ride still needs to join a BG, but once yours is called you can approach a CM (someone can chime in exactly where to find them, entrance I assume) and let them know you need to use Rider switch. The CM will assign rider switch passes to up to 3 adults in your party, the first group will ride through the main line while at least one adult sits off with the kids, and the second group (the ones holding the passes) will go up the FP line when they're done. Up to 2 people can ride twice if you want.

Thank you. So if opening time is 8:00 a.m., as listed on the website for our dates, we should get there around 6:45-7:00? Think that will work for us?

Being inside the park by park opening does not guarantee you will get a Boarding Group. You can try but many on here who are in the park before opening are sadly reporting getting backup boarding groups, especially this week after the MDE app was updated.

I feel so bad. Some of my family members are there this week with their first-timer kids. They were supposed to go to HS yesterday and about ready to leave the room when the kids got sick. They're in HS today but weren't able to get a BG. I'm so disappointed for them.
Not that it is any consolation at all- but the ride is a wreck today. People with BG’s may not even get on. Hope your family’s trip turns around quick for them and they feel better.

I am panicked about all the stories of boarding groups being gone in under a minute. Was anyone in the park at opening who entered the app right away and still failed? I have researched what to do but I'm worried my app will malfunction or my fingers won't be fast enough. My husband will be with me so I will also have him trying simultaneously.

A backup bg is the same as a regular bg, just at a later time of day. The attraction has had 6 bad days since opening where they haven't been able to cover all backups.
Being there at opening will get you a bg.
Disney doesn't guarantee you will ride even with a regular bg, so people just need to be there at opening if they want to try

Ugh, I am sorely tempted to completely rearrange our park plans and start over with fastpasses to avoid going to HS on a Friday. :crazy2:

Some folks there at opening today trying at 8 am did not even get a back up group today.

This is the first time I'm hearing of this happening. Where are you reading that as nobody here has reported that happening. That would be a big change!

It's very disheartening. Fridays have not been good for this ride and that is the only day that works in our schedule for this upcoming trip in March. Unfortunately rearranging our plans now would be a nightmare. I know most days people get to ride but The Chart doesn't lie - Fridays are tough!

Here is our tale!

We left Dolphin at 6:30 this morning and walked over. It was actually a beautiful walk and not nearly as long as I was imagining. Once the underpass to the road was visible, I could see the HS parking lot and realized it really was just a hop skip and a jumppppppp. Anyway, we got there before 7 and yes, there were lots of folks but once we got into the park, we were probably in the first 120 by the Galaxy's gate.

Here was our strategy: I have iphone 8 and hubby has iphone 7. My app was updated and his was not. It has been taking waaay too long for my app to get those fireworks going. We had an app race and when I saw how much faster his was, I asked if we could switch phones at the crucial appointed moment.

Okay, OKAY, I TOLD him we were switching phones. I was the one who has been doing practice sessions and he's not super techie, or as obsessed as I am.

I made sure both our phones were fully charged and we were OFF of the wifi. I had deleted my app the day before and reloaded it. Hubby would be trying for a group at the same time as I would be, with me using his super duper speedy unupdated app.

At 7:58ish, we both opened the app, then went back to our home page and watched the clock hand ticking....ticking...ticking...
With about five seconds to go, I started counting down and at 7:59:59, I went back to the app, clicked the find out more, then My Status, the clicked Join a Boarding Group. We got boarding group 18. I yelled out even before my spouse, on MY phone had a chance to join a group.

So honestly, I think it comes down to the fastest person, with the fastest app and a keen eye on the time. And good luck.

The ride stopped loading new groups at group 12 and we waited for a good bit. Finally got called in at 11am. Make sure everyone has gone to the bathroom before entering the line because once you're in line...it can still be quite a long wait. One hour for us and we were moving most the time. We were thinking of how this might be tough for sensitive kids. All in all it was super fun and amazing and I feel satisfied all of the pre-planning paid off.

Yeah, I have a half day on a Friday in May that was gonna be a Star Wars morning. I'm guessing i'll get to do most everything but not RotR. Oh well, i also have a HS day on a Monday and will try for RotR both days so I don't miss out.

We're still waiting for our BG to be called, they're at 43 and we have 53. Haven't heard if the ride is running normal or in some B mode where we'll miss parts
