On free dining for an upcoming summer trip. The enforcement of the rules is a bit of a hassle, but I had a question about aging kids up that's been referenced on this thread. I could simply call Disney, say that my 7 year old is 10, pay for adult tickets and get adult credits for free dining? Is that something which will be scrutinized or permitted? I'd still have the 4 year old on the kids meals. Thoughts? It seems that people has suggested this?

Aging up from 7 to 10 may be a bit of a stretch. Also, if you're planning on going back in the next 2 years when it isn't free dining, will they allow you to age her back down? I don't know the answer to that question. I think most people aging up from 9 to 10 are comfortable doing it because it won't matter for the next trip anyway.

But, Disney may totally allow it.

I know a few people that have done it with no problems so far. I asked my TA and she didnt think there would be problems for future trips. You just might have to call to get age corrected. I mean whose to say you didnt have someone by the same name going with you on another trip.

We've aged up, then down, back up, etc.

The only issue I had was that MDE was linking the wrong ages to my reservations. Tech support was able to fix it in about 5 minutes. It's not a big deal.

We booked a bounce back last year with free dining. I just tried to call to change one of the 2 children who is currently 9 to a 10 year old. The CM told me it would be 150 dollars more. Can this be right? when i price out the difference between adult and child on the website its giving me a 20 dollar difference. Am I missing something or is this one of those call back and a different CM will give you a different answer things?

When you age up a child to adult you must also pay the difference in park tickets plus the price difference for the adult ddp. The difference in the ddp is multiplied by the amount of nights you are booked for.

Right, but if we got free dining then the adult park tickets are the only thing we would have to pay for, right? Not the difference in dining since dining is free as a part of the package?

Ticket prices just changed this week. When making a change to your package, the ticket price could be changing to the new price and that’s the difference.

Yes, you should only pay the difference in a kid ticket and an adult ticket. I think it's worth another call to see if you get the same answer. See my comment below.

True, they probably are getting the new ticket prices, but assuming a family of 4, you have the $20 for the upgrade to adult and then $120 more in new pricing? That seems a little steep, even for Disney. That would be $30 per ticket.

We have 7 day park hoppers so over the course of 7 days it’s just under 18 dollars per day extra. Steep but it is Disney :-). But yeah. I may call again just in case or do quick research to see how much the pricing has changed. I wish I thought to do this last week before the ticket hike :-)

This thread makes me think I will never do a dining plan again. We did it when both kids were under 3 last fall. But next trip one of them will be 3 and fall in to this category.

I will not feed her food that would come out of Walmarts frozen section the whole trip.

Good example is Flame Tree which has kids options of: Hot Dog, Fried Drumstick, Lunch Meat Sandwich, or Uncrustable. This is at a BBQ place.... I know many kids are picky but if they are going to crack down on kids having to order from the kids menu then they need variety on the menu specific to that location (or smaller portion of Adult entrees).

Disney doesn’t care that you compare its food to the frozen section at Walmart. They just don’t because a big % of folks are more than fine w it.

your choice is:
  1. to skip the plan
  2. pick where you dine more carefully
  3. eat what is available
  4. cancel your trip completely
with how crowded wdw is these days, they truly don’t care if you don’t like the kid menu.

Can the QS and DxDP credits be shared across rooms? There are 11 in our party all Disney adults. We have two rooms (DVC). Can one room get the QS and the other the DxDP and use the credits for all 11 of us? I’ve read a lot of information and threads but I’m not sure of the 2020 answer.

Thank you!!!

Yes, you can no problem. They'll happily allow you to pay more for your ticket. The servers don't know or care how old your kids are; they just care about the credits and they certainly aren't going to shy away from ordering a pricier adult meal that they can get more of a tip on. I'll just add that if you're "upgrading" your dining in any way; you'll have to pay the adult difference not the kid, which is more expensive. Again, I'd look at what you're reasonably going to be ordering and crunch the numbers...it may not be worth it.

You should be able to; but honestly more 2020 feedback is needed to guarantee.

I agree, we won't ever buy the DDP at this point again. It's just not worth it. We have Disney adults under 21, and others over 21 who just don't drink alcohol at every meal. Between that and the kids meals only being good for a kids meal, no snack conversion etc.; I just can't justify the price. Really it's probably never "saved" us money, but it was convenient and nice to have some extra snacks etc., but the price keeps going up and it's just not geared towards our needs anymore, so it's stupid of us to get it just because it's prepaid. I know it makes no difference to Disney, because they're obviously making a ridiculous amount off of it from others, but for us it just doesn't work anymore.
