If a company puts out an app update, you should update. Sure, there are bugs sometimes but 99% of the time you’ll have less problems than stretching out an old version. Go anywhere for tech support first thing they’ll ask is if you have everything updated.
trying not to stray too far off topic, this is the case with most updates, unfortunately the MDE updates generally come with problems. If a person is about to arrive on their WDW trip I would advice against updating if it's working fine. My app worked fine past the update and I just decided to do so last week just cause

Do you happen to know which version you are running? I'm still on 5.7 and debating whether I should upgrade before we head down to FL this weekend. I had been holding off given the reported issues in this thread, but wondering whether it is "safe" now.

I’m running 5.5 and it has been working beautifully. I don’t get most of the glitches that others are reporting here and I get a very high percentage of clickable buttons in the first or second try (before yesterday it was100% on probably 20 days of practicing). This is the first issue I’ve run across with it.

Others will have different opinions but MDE has a really poor track record with iphones and updates. It feels like every few updates they break something massively for IOS. I never update MDE until people have been on it for a while and I check the boards for issues.
That said 5.8.1 (I believe that’s the current release) seems to be working well for iPhones.

I got that too. However you can close that message with the x and still continue the process.
Really? That’s good to know. Our family list was under the red message, I just hadn’t noticed there was an x in the corner. Had this been for real I don’t know what I would have done. Since it was practice I just closed and reopened the app to see what that did, but it took too long and was in backups. You’re saying I could have just hit the x, chose the correct family members and had we been in The park still got a BG?

I tried from home this morning with no problems. I opened the app on my iPad around 7:30 and waited until 8 while I fixed my kid breakfast. At 8 nothing happened, my buttons never turned red or green or what ever they were supposed to do. I waited a few seconds after 8 and then clicked “my status“ and was able to get all the way through that I could. Exited and my buttons were still not glowing, clicked my status again and got a back up boarding group message.

This makes me think that I should already have the app open well in advance once in the park and click on my status right at opening?

What number did you get?. If it is under the first 20 (or even a little more) I think you still have a pretty good chance to ride.

Or by "stopped" you mean you just didn't want to get a backup?

Trying from home.
Heck yes I would have taken a BG under 20!:banana::banana:

I'm a little worried because I'll be there Saturday, and don't want this to happen IRL.

Has the red message at the bottom replaced the pop up that says you’re getting a backup? Or are they completely different? Because I haven’t gotten that pop up in A long time, I did get the red message this am, and I haven’t heard about the pop up for a while (but might have just forgotten since this
moves so fast).

I got the pop up this morning trying from home.

:scared1:
I was just about to bite the bullet and do the update.
I have an iPhone 8+. Now I'm not so sure...
DH has the same phone and has already updated. I think I'll leave it for now.

One of each, whether it be wifi or cell service, iPhone or Android, seems to be a plus.

As far as transportation goes, is it better to drive or take Uber? We will be staying at AS Sports with a car. I'd like to not have to depend on someone else, but I also don't know how long it would take to park. Y'all's expertise would be greatly appreciated!😊

driving is always better cause you have all the control. Just plan on being at the tapstiles at least 20 minutes before park opening and you'll be fine

the consensus is to open the app no earlier than a minute before opening time. I always open it at 7:59, don't touch anything and then click find out more (RotR ATAT pic) at 8

Perfect approach this morning with multiple phones, opening the app at intervals - 10 seconds prior, 5 seconds prior, 8:00 on the dot. Unfortunately, we did Smuggler’s Run first and ROTR was down once we came over. Second time back and it was still down. So hopefully they’ll keep shifting our 1-hour return window!

Were you all using the same account? And did the people who opened before 8am have to close or refresh? We'll have a group of ten, so taking the group approach!

When you opened the app, did you click Find out More right away as well? If so, you'll need to wait until after 8 to click Find out More. Otherwise, if you are clicking after 8, if it's not red right away, click My Status. If that's not clickable, pull down to refresh once. If still not clickable, force close the app and try again. It can take way too long for this to update on its own, which could mean no boarding group at all. gotta have fast fingers on this too!

Let’s be honest...how many of us are sitting here right now wondering what happened to @blistex and family??? I feel like there was an epic cliffhanger to the last episode and I’m ready to tune in for the heartwarming finale!!!

MY PHONE GLITCHED!!!!!

Guys, I wanted to cry a little, but my son was actually crying so I tried very hard to keep my "that's okay, sometimes life's not fair, we're still totally going on the other new star wars ride later isn't that cool" face on.

We took y'all's advice and we walked, left here around 7:10. Everyone cooperated and played along. To add a little excitement, my phone charger broke last night with only 30% battery left so I had been keeping my phone powered completely off and would turn it on when we got to DHS. We were through tapstiles at 7:40. I turned my phone on at 7:50. Found a spot with great signal just to right of Crossroads that wasn't insanely crowded. Turned on the app at 7:55, everything looks good.

Then it just ... didn't work. As soon as my phone hit 8:00, I hit "find out more." Nothing. Button is still grey. No problem, I've seen this before in practice, I hit "My Status."nothing. Tried pressing the grey button just in case. Nothing. Pull down refreshed. Nothing. Backed all the way out to home and repeated the sequence. Force closed and restarted the app completely. it is still only 8:00 (no idea how many seconds) and now it's saying it's in back-up groups BUT THE JOIN BUTTON STILL WON'T ACTIVATE. Tried the cycle one more time then headed to GET but the line for GET is maybe 100 people long and I waited for 15 minutes the other day in a GET line of 3, so we used our RnRC FP and came back to BC.

I have a healthy amount of perspective on this, believe me, but I am so incredibly frustrated by the experience. I have practiced from home dozens of time and never had this happen. I've occasionally had it grey button on one screen, but moving forward or back a a screen always has corrected the problem. Restarting the app certainly should have. The other day when we were still in line for tapstiles I got farther than I did today, calmly waiting inside! And we're going home in the morning so that was our last and best effort, failed through no fault of our own.

Oh NOOOO!!!! I'm so sorry you had this experience in the park. A lot of us on here this morning were having issues practicing as well. just a terrible day for the app. uggh, so frustrating!

Does anyone have any experience with using GET outside of the park for ROTR issues? We are probably going to wander around Epcot for snacks before heading back to DHS, if there is a shorter line there maybe I could show them my screenshot and see if they have any pixie dust, or do you think only a DHS service team can help with that?

Just make sure the Mickey turns green and you're good to go
Here's another lesson we should emphasize, based on the experiences of the "boots on the ground" from our friends on this board. Make sure you see those Mickey heads turn green (or pink!) on the tapstiles, especially for anyone who is going to be trying for a boarding pass!! Those precious seconds of getting the "uh oh, someone is not in the park" message could be the difference of getting a BG or not. With the benefit of this information, I'm going to make sure I physically see my kids and DH tap through. I think they know this, but there's too much going on with that many people entering that I don't want to chance it.
Is it even possible to get into the park without Mickey turning green? The odd time someone has had troubles getting into a park Mickey turned blue and someone with an iPad came over and checked them in that way before we could enter the park.

If someone has to be checked in with an iPad, does this cause them to not show up as being in the park? Guess I'm just wondering how anyone would get in without Mickey turning green as every CM we've ever seen watches those tap machines like a hawk!

If you go past a GET umbrella that’s looks quiet have a chat with cast members to see if they can help. I had luck with one near Hollywood and Vine - I think being further away from the Star Wars area meant less people were asking there. I’m sorry this has been your experience :-(
