Anyone have any questions about DCP?

Hey guys I have just recently return from a 7 month CP, however it was supposed to be 9 but was cut short due to COVID-19. If you have any questions about the DCP, housing, you child on the program, roles, or anything please post below!!!!

First of all, I’m sorry it was cut short! I hope you had a lot of fun while you were there. Where were you housed? What was your role? Did you enjoy them? What was your favorite memory from your program? :teeth:

Aww thank you but I just have to remind myself this is happening everywhere in the world, not just Disney! I was in housing, I lived at Vista Way! They have 4 main complexes and are finishing up the 5th! Flamingo is the new one and is very expensive. Patterson, Commons, and Chatham are all near each other and are around the same prices. Vista was the cheapest housing but is most likely being torn down soon due to it being the first and oldest housing for CPs. I loved Vista with my whole heart. My role was attractions and was my first choice when I put it in the system! I worked at Alien Swirling Saucers in Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios and it was the best thing I have ever done! Yea it was a kiddie ride but I just got to play around with kids all day and I loved it so much. I was a bit bummed at first that i didn't get Slinky or Mania but I would not trade my baby aliens for anything. I also had the best coordinators and friends in the whole world who worked with me! My favorite memory from the program actually is my last day... No one was expecting the college program to be shut down so abruptly and it was heart breaking for everyone. But, Disney really gave me the best last day I could ever ask for. Throughout the day they let me go on a 'fieldtrip' to go ride Star Tours, and even Rise of the Resistance during my work day! Everyone was super nice to all of us that day except for a few unkind guests but that is pretty normal. I couldn't have asked for better people to work with. :flower1:

Glad you had a great experience. My daughter loved it too a few years ago. She lived in Chatham and then moved to Patterson when she extended.

Hoping all the new and hopeful CPs get back there soon!!

I agree I hope they can really go back for Fall 2020 but we will see if Disney reopens as planned! Where did she work?

I REALLY want to do the DCP next spring and I have SO many questions!!! Sorry about all these questions and I understand if you can't answer all of them but here goes...

1. I can't work on Sundays due to my religion. Are they pretty good at accommodating things like that?
2. How much time do you actually get to go to the parks? Do you get so tired that you don't even want to go to the parks?
3. Is it considered weird to go to the parks by yourself and not with your roommates? I just have a very different way of enjoying Disney parks and I actually kind of like going there by myself so I can do what I want to do.
4. I know cast members were blocked out of Hollywood Studios for a while... is that going to change in the near future (assuming the parks open in the near future)? Do you think they'll even be allowed to get a Rise of the Resistance boarding group eventually?
5. I've heard you don't get access to the parks until after your check-in day, on traditions day. I want to go to SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, and Universal. Is the time between check-in day and traditions enough to do all that? How do you know when you have traditions?
6. Can you get Fastpasses?
7. Tips for the application process? I REALLY want to get in my first try because the next time I'll be able to do it will be in 2024...
8. How do you get from the airport to the housing area (assuming your flight arrives early enough)?
9. Are other cast members generally easy to make friends with?
10. Is self terming considered bad and does it decrease your chances of making it in again? Is it considered bad if you plan on it? I want to increase my chances of getting into any of the programs at Disneyland or Disney World (preferably Disney World) so I think I'll apply for all the spring programs between the 2 parks but I might have a family thing in July next year (too early to know for sure obviously) and we're definitely going to Europe (including Disneyland Paris) in August next year (it was supposed to be August this year...) so I know that if I got into the spring advantage program it's likely I would need to leave early. I honestly just want to do the DCP as long as I possibly can and it sounds like I would probably want to leave at the very last second...
11. Are you allowed to do the DCP as many times as you want as long as you're in college?

I might come up with more questions later but this is "all" I have for now... again, sorry for all these questions lol. TIA

Hello that is so exciting! I will answer your questions as best I can!
1. I am unsure of the religion aspect but I believe if you express your need to your leaders and scheduling they should be ok with accommodating!
2. I would go to the parks in the morning if i had a late shifts or later in the day if i had an early shift! Days off are the best days for park trips bc you get the whole day! I was sometimes too tired to go to the park but I was never tired of going to the park if that makes sense! Just make sure you sleep and keep in good health and you will have an amazing time! I went out a lot at night which prevented me going out early!
3. I loved going to the parks by myself! I would often find myself going alone because my schedule just happened to work where my friends who worked in different locations worked when I was off and vice versa! I would set days when I would go with a group of people especially when going to the halloween party and villians and christmas parties, etc. But on a regular day if I wanted to just go and do my own thing I just did and i never felt weird!
4. I do believe they will open hollywood in the near future idk if it will be right away but it will definitely happen! They said when the boarding groups disappear they will alow cast members back in but we will see! I hope they get rid of boarding groups bc they are so hard and annoying (sorry not sorry). I worked in DHS and boarding groups were the worst but i think it will open soon! They actually have let me ride Rise of the Resistance and Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway once during my shift while we were blocked out! So if you work in DHS you probs will too!
5. I had enough time between move in and traditions to go to Universal and get my annual pass! My traditions was Friday after move in on tuesday so I had plenty of time to meet people and go to the parks! My parents bought me some extra tickets so I could go to the park before traditions so I did! But yes you cannot get free entrance till you get your self admission pass which comes about a week after traditions! But the day of traditions you have 1 free entrance pass for that day only and most people will watch Happily Ever After as a group and cry tears of joy!
6. As a cast member you can still get fast-passes if you link your self admission to your My Disney Experience app! I did this and you can get a fast pass 1 week ahead of time so a lot of good rides are gone but granted you are there for 4 months so its worth waiting sometimes!
7. The application is hit or miss really. I was lucky and got in first try and these are my tips. If you get past the first round (the resume and role selection section) you have a 60% chance from there so most people get cut there! I recommend talking about how people loving you are and how much you are willing to keep the magic alive and how your other job experiences can help you in Disney. If you know the 4 keys use them. ONE BIG THING do not pick a role you do not want. If you don't want Custodial DO NOT pick it! You will get it! Custodial, Quick service, and lifeguard are the most common roles to get so if you pick that you will be that role and you have a high chance getting in if you pick these but they are less desired roles bc they can be outside the parks. The more roles you pick the more chance you have of getting in but again only pick what you want. I only picked 4 (attractions - i got, bibbidi bobbidi, merch, and character attendant). The second part of the application is a web based interview (WBI) and you just answer questions about yourself with either strongly disagree, disagree, neither, agree, or strongly agree. Some questions will be like "If a child dropped their ice cream would you give them a new one?" and you select from the 5 choices. Pretty easy. The 3th and final part is the phone interview (PI) and this seems to be the section that scares people the most but its actually not as bad as you think. They just want to get to know you and hear your kind voice. I recommend smiling while on the phone bc they can tell that you sound happy! You want to be happy bc thats what Disney is. Telling them how much you love the company and want to keep the magic alive for generations to come is great! You will be asked a few questions baout your roles you picked so be ready for that! I was asked for attractions "If a child was too short for your attraction what would you do?" and i had to come up with an answer! There are a bunch of articles with questions they ask for each role. I recommend finding those bc I was actually asked some of them! I also recommend waiting a week or two to apply because if you apply right away you will get stuck in the funnel and may have to wait weeks for the next round while it took me a total of 5 days to apply and find out i was in! If you have more questions about this part let me know! Good luck!! :-)
8. For me personally my dad drove my car from NY to Florida and I flew down with my mom and met him at the airport. I had my car packed with my stuff. I then drove my car to the housing complex and checked in that day! I recommend a car if you have one bc the busses are a bit unreliable but if you dont its totally fine! Ubers are good or if you rent a car to get there that works too!
9. By other cast members I am assuming you mean non-DCP/ PT or FT cast members! Yes I made some of my best friends who were PT/FT at my location! I also made great friends with my DCP friends! I had work friends and then other friends that lived in Vista Way with me! It was great and we all became so close bc we saw each other almost everyday for hours and hours a day! Some of my favorite people were my coordinators! I had the best coords in the world. Coordinators are your shift managers and mine were super young and fun and made work so fun! If a guest was mad at me and started to yell my coords would step in and protect us and sided with us always! Ugh i miss them all so much! I didn't however make friends with other people at other locations bc I never went there. The only time i saw people from other places was at vista way or the events they had at the housing complexes or at bars. My friends who i met before hand worked at other places and i met people thru them and they are my besties now and im going to one of their weddings soon!
10. Self terming isn't great but it isn't bad either. It does not ruin your chances of being with the company again but it also doesn't look super great on your resume because you technically quit. However if it is for medical or mental health reasons it is totally understandable. I had a friend leave for depression reasons and she was let go on good terms so the company forgave her. I wouldn't plan on terming bc it should be a last resort. Some people term bc they don't feel it is what they signed up for. Some people think its a paid vacation to Disney for 4 months but its not it is a lot of work but it is so fun too! It is hard in the beginning bc you don't know what you're doing but you get the hang of it so fast! Disney World is easies to get into so thats a good one to apply for but you can always try for both! You may be able to request an early departure and have forgiveness for leaving! Definitely talk to your leaders after you get in! It hsould be okay if you leave at the last second! I had a lot of friends term after we found out about coronavirus and they were all forgiven! It should not affect you in the eyes of the company bc you did pretty much the whole thing!
11. This is correct! As long as you are at least a second semester freshman all the way through 1 full year of graduating you can do the program! This includes graduate school and further too! I've had people I knew doing it for a second time all the way up to a 4th time! THey were obvs very behind in school work but its a good way to get involved in a company you may want to stay with forever! I liked how open they were to offering jobs after the program! It is super easy to go PT after DCP! I was considering but I had to go back and start grad school! I would like to return and try for parade auditions but we will see!

Hi! I am a mom of a DCP kiddo. She applied 3x and finally got in for the spring 2020 program. I'll try to answer your questions.

1) Once you are accepted, you can put in for a 'religious accommodation'. My dd had gotten QSFB. She wanted Sunday evenings and Tuesday evenings off due to that was when the church she wanted to attend held their services. She put in her religious accommodation and they ultimately put her at Be Our Guest since they never have QSFB kids there past 4pm. A couple of my dd's friends also put in for the same time off and they were give one or the other - Sunday evenings or Tuesday evenings, but not both. Disney is somewhat accommodating but they have their limits.

2) It's common to work a 5-day work week. My dd got in a lot of park time even on her work days (again, she was never at BoG later than 4pm) but many DCP'ers just go to the parks on their days off. Had the Spring program continued, I think my dd would have settled a bit and quit going to the parks so much.

3) Since my dd worked an open to 3 or 4pm shift, none of her roomies were ever available to hit the parks with her. Most DCP kids work closing shifts. So, she almost always went to the parks by herself. Thankfully, she is good with that and she loved that time.

4) No way to know

5) Check in is almost always on a Monday and Traditions is Friday or Saturday. You would have time to check out other things in Orlando. You will know your Traditions date the week before you check in.

6) You are very much able to book FP's. It's the same as for any guest - onsite reservation can be 60 days out and offsite is 30 days out.

7) It took my dd 3x to get in. The older you are, the better. I've really found no other rhyme or reason as to who gets in and who doesn't. Age is huge, imo.

8) Disney recommends you fly in a day or two before check in. The time they assign you is a set time. There is no busing to the DCP housing. Taking an Uber or Lyft (unless you have a rental car) is best.

9) I think this is location dependent. Some locations hire a lot of CP's. My dd was at BoG and there were not many CP's so making friends was hard.

10) Self-terming seems to have no impact on future DCP's

11) Yes!

I have a few questions. I'm a senior theatre (acting) major, graduating May of 2021. I'm straight theatre (just acting) vs. musical theatre (acting, dancing, singing). I'm looking at the Disney College Program in LA because of the experience working for a major entertainment company like Disney, plus it would be a good way to get to know the LA area before I relocate there for professional reasons. What type of opportunities are there for actors/performers who don't dance or sing on a professional level?

I have the classic Disney look, I'm really outgoing & friendly, etc. (student ambassador for my university, former camp counselor) and I'm the right height, look and build for a male face character or a fur character (6 foot) but I'm NOT a skilled dancer. I will stumble through a dance audition--I'll do it with a smile on my face and enthusiasm but I'll still stumble--and from what I've read the dance audition is how they select character performers. I don't have a lot of experience in technical theatre beyond directing, so I wouldn't be a first pick for lighting, etc. or those jobs either. I HAVE taken classes and have experience with film equipment.

With my background, is it worth a road trip to even audition to be a character? What are other entertainment options I might qualify for in the DCP? I'm open to anything in entertainment or related areas of dealing with the public or behind the scenes, but I have no idea what the options even are. Since I'll be a college graduate, if I do the program, I'd like to try to get experience that will help me even remotely in my professional field rather than just general work experience. Also, I know I can apply during my Senior year this January for a fall 2021 placement, but my understanding is I can also apply up until one year after I graduate? (so I can still apply fall 2021 and January 2022 if graduate May 2021, or is the limit that I have to start the program before one year after graduation?). Thanks so much in advance for the help!

Hi omg yes Disney has great opportunities for non dancing and non singing actors! I think you should always try for characters because you never actually know what they are looking for! If you look like the other character performers they currently have, they may take you too! The audition process will start with measuring and looking at your face, body, etc. If you look like a character you will be pulled immediately into a different room and will do the character auditions meanwhile everyone else will be doing fur and/or parades. If you are pulled for face character you will do a very simple dance, have to read a script in the voice, and act out something so they can see if you can fit right away. If you don’t go to face you will stay at fur and parade auditions and the dances are a bit harder however not impossible. If you mess up, go along with it and keep going bc they want to see how you handle yourself bc you don’t get redos out on main street usa! Disney also has storytellers and some actors who just walk around main street and other places! So yea definitely look for actor auditions but if you wanna try face id say go for it!!! Definitely look at Disneyauditions.com and see what auditions they are having and look at the type of auditions they offer! I think you’ll be happy with the options!!! I have always heard you can apply up to 1 year out of college! I did the program fall 2019 and spring 2020 and graduated college in may 2019! but i do believe i could’ve done fall 2020 (which is canceled right now). Definitely check the dcp page for more details! disneycollegeprograms.com GOOD LUCKK!!!!!

Thanks so much! Your answer was a huge help, and I'll definitely go to an audition when they start back up! If it's ok, I have even more questions now. Were you in Orlando or LA? Some of my questions are pretty specific to LA, but I'd love to hear whatever you have to say!

This may be because of covid and everything being temporarily shut down, but I've had a really hard time finding a list of the male characters/performers they hire beyond Princes or fur characters--that's all I thought there was, but I haven't been to Disney since I was 10 so I don't remember a lot. I'd never even heard of other types of acting, storytelling jobs, etc. that might be available. Are those additional acting jobs also cast through the regional auditions for face and fur characters, or are they applied for once you get there? Is there a list or job descriptions of those positions somewhere, or do I need to just keep watching the Disney auditions site until they start posting things again? Right now there's nothing.

If you aren't cast as a performer immediately, what would be a good area to work where movement up to an acting or character job would be a possibility? I saw that if you don't list a work area option beyond performance/acting jobs on your application, you won't be considered for other locations if the performance audition doesn't work out. Did I understand that correctly?

In addition to gaining experience working with a global professional entertainment company, my goal with DCP would also be to use the time to scope out the LA area so I can stay out there after DCP is over to begin the process of trying to find an agent and auditioning. It would be nice to have a survival job in place too while I audition. Are there a lot of actors who stay, and are working Disney as a survival job after DCP? The program sounds pretty rigid during DCP, which I completely understand, but if you transition over to working for Disney as a regular employee, is it possible to work a later shift and/or trade shifts etc. to take advantage of auditions and gigs?

Again, thanks so much! You have no idea how helpful this is!

Of course if you ever have any questions ill do my best to answer them!! I was in Disney World Orlando so I may not know everything you ask but I will do my absolute best!!

Yes most lists have been temporarily unavailable bc they are not currentlyholding auditions at the moment but they will most likely start back up again soon so keep checking back! At Disney World we have auditions for storytellers like those in the Frozen Singalong (they do not sing), some walk around hollywood studios and mainstreet and just draw crowds, etc. I am not sure about California but i bet they have some too! Those auditions would be through Disneyauditions.com because anything outside I fear may be fake but sometimes Disney does go through talent agencies to find certain roles like the beauty and beast live show (for example). I do not currently see the roles listed out liek they used to be. There may be YouTube videos explaining the roles and the auditions but currently I guess you just have to wait sadly.

If you don't get cast as a performer maybe getting into costuming, PAC (parade flow), or any job really because there is so much availability to move around the company! I have had friends who were food service because they didn't pass their audition and now are performers because they just had to re-audition again. Yes, you always need to have a backup option if you do not pass your audition so they do place you in the parks and you aren't placed in NLIC (no longer in consideration). I would pick a job you have always wanted to try outside entertainment just in case but hope for the best!

Yes! Many people survive off of Disney pay and do well. During DCP you aren't paid very well but once you move up to part time or full time your pay increases by year so you can definitely survive off this while you lookfor other work! Getting into entertainment in California will definintely open opportunities to you because you will gain amazing experience and will meet some people who may already be represented by agents and companies who may intorduce you to certain people. It will definitely give you in!!! During the DCP it is pretty rigid and you cannot give away shifts you can only trade, but as PT/FT you can pretty much do anything. you want as long as you meet your required number of hours! If you have any other questions let me know!!
