I understand it's a pandemic and things are changing daily. What I don't get is how so many defend Disney and they can't do no wrong. I'm sorry they have been wrong in a lot during this.
Them cancelling all FPs, ADRs and the Dining Plan says a lot. First of all they should never had let people keep making reservations once they closed. People were still allowed to book ADRs and FPs as if things were normal. That's all on Disney. I'm sure most will defend that too.
I know by your posts you are not a fan of the people who think "Disney is the only park" and, "Disney can do no wrong."
I am a person who enjoys a lot of different parks (if you recall, I am a huge fan of Cedar Point.) So I am definitely not in the camp of Disney is the only one. There are also many things I don't like that Disney has done, just mention 180 ADR and FP+ and my eyes roll. I don't like them, but I play the game because I love Disney.
With all that said, you now know I don't hold the Disney can do no wrong attitude.
Moving on ...
I don't blame Disney at all for doing what they did. They had hopes that they could open so they wanted to keep things moving on as normal as possible. If you booked all of those knowing a pandemic was in our midst and thought there wasn't a possibility it could cancel, then you were living under a rock. I knew full well what I was getting into when I rescheduled an April trip for late June. I did it anyway, it actually gave me a nice distraction planning something. Planning made me happy. Now is cancelled. Bummer, yeah. Disney's fault, no.
They are dealing with this the way everyone is dealing with it. Day by day.
I don't think they had any clue they were going to have to cancel all the FP's and ADR's. When they finally got a plan in place, they had to go back and cancel. Would you expect an airline to just say no, we aren't going to have anyone book flights in the future until we know what is going on? You can't run a business that way. I can't fault Disney on this. It is just not fair.
I do agree, having to cancel the Free Dining was a sting to many people. But I don't think Disney intentionally said lets get everyone's hopes up and then crash them down. They couldn't fulfill the offer due to limiting guests in the parks. It stinks, but it wouldn't be enough for me to say Disney is dead to me. I am cutting businesses slack because I think they are handling a situation no one was prepared for. This is the once in a 100 years occurrence, not your typical national emergency.
