first we got "the virus" to deal with--which is sad in itself since in this day and age it shouldnt have happened in the first place--

now we have groups that are trying to re write history--or pretend like it never happened--

statues are being taken down or destroyed--even disney is changing some of there classic rides that have been around since the beginning

its history--it cant be changed re written forgotten about--it happened-case closed

was some of it right--no-- but way back in time they did what they thought was right for that time--but things happened

my dad used to say when things were going wrong stop the world I want to get off--I wish he would have told me how to get off now that the world is stopped

and all the unrest--why is it ok for some people to break the law--then resist arrest--but no one ever says if they would have done what they were told to do--like when a cop says to stop and freeze--the person would still be alive--sitting in jail but still alive

we just had a issue near a shopping mall--some kids were caught shop liftening so when the police came they caught them and one of the kids spit on the police while he was trying to restrain him--I guess thats ok and the police are just supposed to take it

well my word the protesters that came out of the woodwork were insane!!! they that this was just terrible--oh the kid was only 13 I can only think what he'll be like by the time hes 18

sad sick world

Most of the history I have learned isn't from statues. Do you think if every Confederate war statue is removed, it's going to magically erase the war from textbooks? Do these statues have plaques that say these people were traitors and what a bad idea it was to go to war over slavery?

A large number of these statues were erected during the time of Jim Crow laws and the Civil Rights movement. You think that's a coincidence? You think Southern states started flying the Battle Flag of the Confederate Army in the early 60's as a coincidence?

Here's just one of many examples: There is a statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest in Nashville. Civil War general and first Grand Wizard or the Klu Klux Klan. It was erected in 1998, sculpted by Jack Kershaw. Did Kershaw create the statue as a warning? No, he liked what Forrest stood for. Kershaw, by the way, was James Earl Ray's lawyer and a secessionist.

I think you forgot mandatory masks and the Redskins.

Here's the very simple difference from what you are saying OP. Yes, it's history and it won't disappear. But why are we honoring or giving accolades to a part of our history that oppressed others or caused them suffering? That's what is happening here.

By all means, the history should be taught way more (and in explicit detail) in school. There should also be museums that hold the artifacts of what happened. But statues are honors.

Rides at Disney depicting certain things are done as homage and for fun.

Do you not see the difference?

Hmmm .... how do I even tackle this? Why do I even try ... IDK. Boredom is my excuse. ;)

First, this day and age a novel virus can still exist. I don't understand how you feel it shouldn't have happened. Scientists have been saying for years that a new pandemic could happen. Our government even had a mock testing in August of 2019 about a new virus and unfortunately we failed and no tweaking had been done.

Second, no you cannot erase history. But we as a society can evolve and say well, this really has no reason to still be celebrated in our public and/or government spaces (ex. Confederate flag). If you are that angered by it, you have a right to put one in your house.

Third, turn off the TV. You are only seeing the bad. And yes, there has been terrible destruction by a few, but the majority of protesting has been peaceful. You don't hear about that because there is no sensationalism to it. Media puts out what they want to attract their viewership. People peacefully protesting doesn't get the ratings like looters do. Sad, but very true. As for statues, some should come down. Some should stay. I don't feel random people should take any statue down but go through the steps to have it removed. And for some, a history lesson should be in order -- vandalizing Lincoln, Grant, and WW2 makes no sense.

Our country is hurting right now. We will get past this like we have before. I just wish we could come together but our division keeps growing. Our politicians are helping drive that divide. I wish they would stop it and realize for the betterment of our country to knock it off and unite, like we did on 9/11.

Nobody flame me because I tried. I added some salt and butter to your popcorn moment, LOL. popcorn:::rotfl2:

As long as people focus on statues, murals, and street names, racism is completely safe.
