Need to vent!

Ok, just putting this out there. I believe in wearing masks. It’s the decent thing to do and yes I understand there are some people who can’t physically wear them. I wear a mask every time I go out of my house. Here’s my rant: My brother called me and was talking about my sister-in-law’s trip to Walmart, this was before the mandatory masks, where she got fed up with how long the elderly lady, who was wearing a mask, in front of her was taking in the aisle. So she walked up behind her, stuck her tongue out and coughed! 😤 My sister-in-law is very anti-mask and thinks that the whole COVID issue is a hoax. 🙄 Plus my brother told me that she actually laughs at people in public who are wearing masks. This is a 59 year old woman! My brother was laughing about it the whole time! I am so disgusted with both of them that I could care less if I ever talk to them again. Thanks for letting me vent.

A local guy posted a story where he was complaining to a store employee about someone else not wearing a mask. He was asked to leave a store because he was causing a scene. He goes on to say he took off his mask and coughed on / at the employees.

I don’t get it. Sometimes I think a symptom of Covid is stupidity.

Apparently your SIL and your brother don't know anyone who has died from Covid-19. I know 5 people who have died, one in his 30's with no underlying conditions.

What can I say... selfish is all that comes to mind. I hate reading about these types of scenarios.

That’s a horrible thing to do even when there’s no pandemic going on. Lovely person. Covid is real and masks do help, but no one seems to understand that there are many more flu cases then covid and we have a vaccine for flu. About 14.5 million covid cases worldwide and 39-56 million cases of flu during same period, and flu cases are underreported and covid is over reported. These are real numbers off John Hopkins site. A guy died in a motorcycle crash and because he tested positive for covid they listed that as his cause of death. Not saying covid is a hoax, it’s real, but so is the fear monger if surrounding it.

I'd just tell them that if they're going to do things like that, don't talk about them in my presence unless you want to get chewed out for it. And I would be quite frank and tell them what I thought of their behavior. I often wonder what the people that like to cough and spit on people would do if someone knocked a couple of teeth down their throat. I don't condone that but there is always a chance they're going to do it to someone having a bad day and Kapow. They'll make all the you tube instant Karma videos.

I don't know that this boils down to pro or anti-mask but more decent human being. I seen people all over just be darn nasty to each other on different opposing sides of this all.

Certainly you can be disgusted at their childish behavior (and purposely coughing on someone is way below just being childish I might add) and opt to not talk to them. Not sure they would become enlightened anyways.

I would have punched her in the face.

I really wouldn't talk to them again. I would have nothing but disgust for both of them.

And I don't care what disability you have, masks should be mandatory. If you can't wear one in a grocery store, you need to use a delivery service to obtain groceries.

No more of this "My disability prevents me from wearing a mask."

Anyone calling this virus a hoax at this point is living in denial, it blows the mind.

I don't know if it's denial or mental illness? I just can't fathom someone thinking this is a hoax. It's like they are living in a different reality or something and not seeing/hearing what we re seeing/hearing. I am gobsmacked at people's attitudes towards the virus, dr. Fauci, mask wearing etc.

There really isn't any reason for people to get nasty with others, mask wearing or not. Just pass the people who are moving more slowly than you are. Just ignore the people who can't read the floor stickers that say go "This Way".

I think the 24/7 coverage and polarizing views are bringing out the worst in people. I took my son to a Drs appointment last week, contained in a building with many offices. My son and I, both wearing masks, walked down the interior corrider and a woman was just standing in the corrider. We had to walk past her to get to our office. She started screaming at us because we walked by her. And she kept carrying on. She had on a mask, a coat in 90 degree heat, gloves, so I realize she must be extremely worried about catching the virus but her behavior was unacceptable.

Next time you have this, tell her "Bless your heart".

I agree with you. I have only gone to the grocery store maybe 4 times since March and during my last visit recently I got really anxious making certain I was following the floor stickers you mentioned. When one person came down the aisle going the wrong way without a mask on coughing, I turned and nearly ran down the aisle going the wrong way to get away from them. So guess I'll keep ordering through Instacart lol

I hear ya. I'd be pretty mad if I were in your shoes.

What also bugs me a lot are individuals like my BIL & SIL who say that they're quarantining and social distancing. But then they go and have party time with neighbors up and down the street...10 or so adults + a whole bunch of children all huddled around a fire pit. NOBODY wearing masks. NOBODY staying 6' or more away from each other.

They claim that they're quarantining with their neighbor across the street, one of whom is immune compromised. Well, THAT guy regularly goes to his favorite watering hole a couple of days a week. "Oh but it's ok because we all sit outside." The guy never wears a mask when they're all doing drunk fire pit time or drunk hot tub time a few evenings a week. And this is in California we're talking about. Ironically, my BIL & SIL think that they are doing a great job staying away from people. Um, what? Your house is basically the neighborhood party hub. It's like Grand Central Station at your place.

Unbelievable. It sounds like your ILs and my ILs should get together and have lunch or something.
