Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Something I just though of today as I made a visit to DTD, when the parks are open I wonder how they’ll set capacity (parks and dtd) as most of us have to go through dtd to get to the esplanade. I wonder if they’ll make a second checkpoint where the old dtd security used to be for park goers to visit dtd.
I was thinking they are going to use a "reservation" system of some type to enter the parks like WDW. If they do that, it wouldn't seem they need to have a second security station.

With that in mind, Newsom made it clear he's not ready to start toggling the "dimmer switch" on reopening just yet. Before that happens, he said we need a "marked decline" and "consistent stabilization" in hospitalization rates, ICU admissions and testing positivity rates.

It does make sense... don’t want to undo everything by backtracking too soon.

I just don’t see Disneyland getting the okay to open when other small businesses aren’t allowed to operate. I feel like it’s going to be an all or nothing scenario because of the politics involved.

WDW’s situation is so different since other businesses aren’t being restricted while they’re remaining open. It’d be a terrible look to open up Disneyland while the neighborhood salon/bar/etc. stays closed. WDW is still getting raked over the coals for being open, along with the governor there, and I’m sure that comes into consideration.

But who knows, this is all so unknown and hard to predict. I agree with all of you that Disneyland will be much safer than any other facilities opening. I feel like I could wake up to a Disneyland announcement any day now while also feeling like it won’t open for months. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The crazy part about amusement parks -- CA has no official policy guidance published. They specific call out exclusions of the amusement parks to industry guidance and leaves nothing about it specifically

Because the guidance hasn’t happened yet. The way it has worked (so far) is guidance is released about one week before they are allowed to reopen. Basically here is what you need to do to reopen you have a week to figure it out. The guidance would detail the industry specifics and could include things how frequently ride vehicles, capacity limits etc.

OCs numbers today 97.6/100,000
Test Positivity 8.1%

Still notes that there is an issue exporting the data from the states electronic reporting system. I wonder how long this issue is going to go on and how it is affecting OCs true numbers?

State still has OC at 149.5/100,000 and 11.7% (as of Aug 1).

It does appear that there's some play where the individual county can have a roadmap. I do wonder if Orange county has anything so progressive and coordinated with Disney to propose to the state; especially if there's data transmission delay and counts.

Those numbers are SO close :) Still hopeful for a pre-labor day opening if the stars align. It's not out of the question to happen. Weirder things have occurred. -- anyone with stored pixie dust?

I didn’t realize some DL-area hotels were open. Not exactly sure where Cambria Hotel is but they showed up on my LA Times app:
Massive brawl breaks out at a hotel in Anaheim, prompting police response

Yes I've seen people report on facebook that they will park at either Anaheim Garden Walk or a nearby hotel then walk to DTD if the parking is full. So some hotels are for sure open!

Hotel Indigo is also open. I didn’t read the article.... apologies if this is the one where the brawl happened! 🤣
The brawl was the hotel @hiroMYhero listed.
I like hotel indigo, I stayed there for D23 last summer. It was an easy walk to the convention center, I got a fantastic AAA rate from booking early, and they have free parking.

We like Hotel Indigo too... it’s definitely a further walk than the Park Vue Inn, but we thought the hotel was super nice.

Hello, I'm from Sparks, NV! I feel the same way you do about schools opening... I also have a trip planned for Thanksgiving week. Just wanted to say Hello!
Hello! I'm in Sparks too but I find it's easier just saying I'm from Reno. Sometimes that doesn't even work either. Lol. My favorite line is, "Is that near Vegas?"

My kids both know that if the numbers don't come down they will be spending the first month of school on Edgenuity. Technically, I've told the school they'll be returning in the hopes that we can get down to 100 in 100K, but that doesn't seem likely. I'd rather have them at home while the schools work out the kinks of their reopening plans. Much like watching WDW's reopening and how they keep tweaking their policies as they learn as they go. Hopefully DLR's reopening will be that much smoother.

We are supposed to go to DLR second week of October./Fingers crossed!
Us too! If DLR isn't open yet for fall break, I've booked a WDW trip for next June as soon as we get out of school...if we even go to school. If we're on distance learning, I guess we could also go wherever, whenever we wanted to. But, I'm hoping that DLR opens in September so I can observe their operations before I have to make a final decision.

Hotel Indigo, the Wyndham next door to Indigo, Fairfield Inn, Anaheim Hotel, Marriott at the Convention center, Springhill Suites above CVS, and Hyatt House are all open. I think Suncoast is as well, although I could not get anyone to answer the phone when I called. We looked into the Cambria but the rates were really expensive compared to the rest of the hotels that are open.

(Edit to add: I am sure there are more hotels than what I listed that are open, I just know that those hotels are for sure open right now-because we stayed there, or because I called to inquire about staying)

The Cambria has a few shaky reviews on Trip Advisor. We looked at it as well, but it’s so far and super close to the 5. I remember one review commenting about what a disaster it was by the pool. Plus, you’re right! Their rates are high.

Yes, we were enticed by the water park because we know our kids would love that, but over $200 a night seemed like too much for being so far and right next to the freeway!

It is NOT a water park. Are they calling it that? I hope not, because that would be super misleading. It's like one slide and the pool area is SO stark and boring otherwise. Plus, you are probably literally being covered by fine particulate freeway debris as you sit there, it's so close to the 5. I wouldn't spend any significant amount of time out there.

I am also surprised to hear that so many Anaheim hotels are open. Without the parks or convention center open, what is the draw?

Good to know! It looked like there were multiple slides to me, but I really didn't look much further once I saw the prices they were charging!

I was surprised too!

And would they let me hold 2 reservations for the same dates?
I have held two reservations for the same dates under my name, most recently in July.
I think they already have guidance- everything in CA does -social distance, limited capacity, face mask mandate, and proper cleaning-PPE for workers- but I’m
Thinking the issue lies in the fact that these parks can hold so many more people than 3 Costco’s put together(hyperbole of course, did not do the math lol) even at a limited capacity, so the question becomes, when do we/ can we open something like a theme park with the guidance during a pandemic?
:rotfl: :rotfl2:Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the 3 Costcos put together quip. That made me actually laugh out loud this morning.

I think a lot of the timeshares opened in SoCal since they're trying to deal with the same points issues as DVC is. I own a contract with Worldmark and have seen several people in owners groups I'm in posting that they're enjoying the Anaheim properties as of about a month ago. I think for them the draw is just not losing their points while having a staycation.
