New CDC Outdoor Guidance

The humor is beginning to come back in this thread...it's a good sign that people are relieved and today had some great news!

Whenever you think Disney might do away with masks, it's a good point to remember that this is GREAT NEWS. We have come so, so far. We are almost there, however you slice it. Big kudos to everyone who helped make this possible.

Totally agree.

That's what we've heard for months - "Disney will drop it's mask mandate when the CDC recommends it".

Are people going to stand by that?

If so, WDW needs to drop the mask mandate for vaccinated people RIGHT NOW.
People have said that Disney will drop the mask mandate when the CDC recommends it *for all*. It's not clear what will happen based on their recommendation that it should be dropped only for vaccinated people.

Did the CDC say anything about masks for kids under 12? I'm only seeing that they say if vaccinated you can go without masks - which hooray! So, even though under 12 don't represent a serious risk, how is Disney supposed to interpret the new guidance if it only addresses those who are vaccinated? I mean I can't imagine they'd tell parents not to mask but those under-12 must. That is crazy. That's assuming that they decide to go by the CDC guidance at all. It would be nice if the CDC would give guidance for the under 12 yo. Not only for someplace like Disney, but for schools as well.

My opinion is that they will make every ride full capacity and increase park capacity before not requiring masks. That is the easiest way to make more money but still give people the safety feeling that is needed for some to go.
I agree but it will also make the experience a lot less pleasant which could backfire. There are a lot of ppl who are only willing to deal with the masks & other restrictions b/c of the reduced capacity.

I think the guidance for kids has mostly been the same the whole time, IIRC the only change has been about distancing in school.

Folks, I hate to burst the bubble but there is still going to be masking requirements for WDW. The CDC guidance changes nothing regarding trains, busses, and other modes of transportation. If you get on a Monorail or boat or bus at WDW, you are going to have to mask. Now...inside the parks do you require a mask on Rafiki's plant watch train even though it is an outdoor open train? How about the KS trucks? Are those mass transportation?

This guidance from the CDC is long overdue in my humble opinion. I'm also glad that masking is being phased out. But, I think there are some real logistical concerns for WDW to police masking where it is still advised under CDC guidance. Can WDW logistically get guests to comply with wearing masks on the monorail when they don't have to wear the mask walking around the monorail station? These are the sorts of questions I see WDW wrestling with and there are some really hard decisions that WD Parks division will have to make in the next few weeks.

Good point. I think that if Disney doesn’t bring back more stuff with these new guidelines—fireworks, shows, parades, meet n greets—it will backfire. It will just look cheap. I would happily keep masks on if that means we can have fireworks and do meet n greets

Are you ok with Disney checking for a vaccine card to get entry into the park then?

They aren’t allowed. New Florida law that was just passed forbids businesses in Florida from requesting proof of vaccination. The business can be fined $5,000 per customer.

The governor supports that law for medical privacy, but also to stop exactly what some in here seem to want to see, a two-tiered society where one group of people has certain privileges based on vaccination status.

That's interesting considering wait times aren't really that good right now.

I agree, but this is a step in the right direction.

At this point, WDW may not change. But at the rate the CDC recommendations are changing, Disney are going to have to change it's policies in weeks, not months.
